Where do I begin?
My husband and I wanted to end our week vacation at the beautiful and highly rated US Grant. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we had nothing but issues which I addressed with Management shortly after we returned home.
When we arrived, we were not greeted. For a 5-star hotel, I expect to have someone offer to take my bags or open doors. None of this happened. (I
don't want to sound snobby, but this is why we chose a hotel with this rating.) We stood in line for check in and they told us our room was not ready. They told us to take a seat and they would grab us when it was ready. The gentleman helping us walked away and never returned. We sat for about 15 minutes before we walked up an asked if the room was ready. The new gentleman on shift had no idea we were waiting. Not a great way to start, but I'll cut them some slack.
We paid more for an upgraded room, to find out it faces the park littered with homeless people. The noise from the screaming people and the traffic all night was unbearable. I asked the front desk if we could be moved and they said they were sold out and handed me ear plugs.
We then went out and explored the town and came back to our room, which had not been touched by housekeeping. I called the front desk and kindly asked them if they could send someone. They apologized and said they would send someone right away. I checked on the room an hour later and nothing. I called again and they said they would send someone. Upon my third request I went to the desk in person. They apologized yet again and offered me a $50 credit. (Given the cost of this room, this was a measly offering but I accepted.)
The hotel itself was beautiful and the room was very clean. If you would like to stay here, please request a room away from the busy street and park facing view.
We've stayed at top of the line, 5 star resorts/hotels in the past and have had a brilliant experience. I am disgusted with the way we were treated and I unfortunately will not be returning. I hope things have improved for future guests.response / report this review -

Beautiful classic hotel in the heart of downtown. The rooms are spacious by city standards with modern & luxurious furnishings. The staff are helpful, friendly and helpful and will go the extra mile to make your stay particularly memorable.

The hotel is quite nice. The price of the accommodations is really based on the historical nature of the building. The rooms are what you would expect from a restored location, nothing to write home about. The staff is wonderful to interact with; always helpful and friendly. The Grant Grill, located off the lobby, is fantastic. I was a bit disappointed that the wifi was not included in the price of the room, though. Pretty basic need, particularly for the business traveler.

It's an amazing hotel that takes no shortcuts with customer service. I only have two minor complaints. One there is no self parking only valet for 50 a night and two the rooms are a little on the small side. They are very comfortable and luxurious but definitely small for the price you pay. I would definitely stay here again.

You can tell this hotel is a historic building. There is a good vibe to this hotel from the moment you set foot into it. From the architecture outside to the luxurious inside art. The resturant inside is 5 star with amazing food. The rooms are a bit smaller side but the art work and amenities make up for it. I walked into my room with brand new slippers and luxury bath his/hers robes. The staff is very friendly and the service is awesome. Be prepared to spend $50 a day just for parking. Overall I would recommend this hotel.

You can tell why this building is a National Historic Building. The inside looks beautiful. The staff were incredible and very professional. The room was incredibly clean and the beds were very comfortable. Nice feather down pillows made you excited to sleep at night. The differences between hotels are typically found in those little extras and this place has them in spades. The have an overnight complimentary shoe shine and electronic New York Times morning subscription. While they don't have a pool on the property, they have an agreement with the nearby Westin where you can use their pool for free. I definitely recommend this hotel.

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. Comfy and quiet rooms. The best hotel service from check-in to check-out. If your company or business is looking to have a large meeting / conference then I highly recommend this location. A+ overall. It's match or competition would be the Blackhawk Hotel in Davenport, IA in my opinion.

Great hotel. My wife and I don't have a negative thing to say about our stay, literally. Every staff member that we encountered were friendly and willing to go the extra mile for us. The room was exceptionally clean. The location seemed pretty central to everything we wanted to see and do. We'd definitely recommend this hotel.response / report this review -

Had several stays, and always a solid experience. Staff is very courteous, knowledgeable about the area, and try their best to provide a pleasant stay. Beds are so comfy that you can just spend whole day napping. Very clean rooms and the rest of the facilities. I always plan on trying a different place, but then Why risk it and not go with the sure thing? Location is excellent as well, for dinner and nightlife. Btw, don't know if that's the case with the whole place (staff said it is) but my room was renovated earlier this year, so that was just a delightful surprise.

In the middle of a week long stay at the US Grant with my 4 month old son. They are very accommodating and provided us with a crib. The room is very spacious for a hotel in the city. Location is central to many of the sites in San Diego. Service has been excellent. I would book this hotel again.

This hotel is very luxurious. If you feel like spoiling yourself, then this hotel definitely offers you that experience. Its centrally located and very easy to get to. The staff were lovely and easy to deal with. I would stay here again when I am back in San Diego.

I don't know why I took so long to review this hotel! We stayed here 2 times for winter breaks, and never got disappointed. This is a beautiful luxurious hotel, I travel a lot and this is one of my favorites in the world. From the location, the architecture, the staff and service, the restaurants, the rooms, the pools, to the most tiny details; everything makes you to feel relax and special. We tried twice the restaurant Addison, and the food is wonderful and elegant. Also we got the high tea service at the library for our daughters, to make the holidays more special; and it's so beautifully presented. The bar is very good too, always with good knowledgeable barmen/mixologists; and the menu for tapas are great. The lobby is the perfect place to hang out, next to the fire place and sometimes they have musicians. The pools, the service and the views are amazing too.

The hotel was pretty nice. We went for a date night, the downside was it was daylights saving. But the hotel let u stay an extra hour. That would have been great, BUT the San Diego 1/2 marathon was going on and the finish line was right outside our window. So come 7am we were forced to be awake by loud music and a guy on a microphone. (Wish we would have been told that was going to happen) the rooms were pretty nice, but I didn't like the lighting for doing makeup. It was kinda dark. But we enjoyed our evening out. Good hotel (but we wouldn't have stayed there had we known about the marathon as it defeated the point of our getting away and sleeping in.

Celebrated my husband ship Holiday Party at the Grant and it was very luxurious and beautiful. Had lots of fun, very large venue, big enough dance floor and stage. The food they provided was delicious but it did run out really quickly for the amount of people that were there. They had a bar but the drinks were ridiculously over priced. Just a Coke was $5. So my husband and I only drank water. The experience was nice tho. Not many complaints would definitely go back for future eventsresponse / report this review
