We come every year for my boyfriend's birthday. Beautiful hotel and the front staff is so amazing. One woman in particular has always made us laugh and remembers us each year and sang Happy birthday in a creative way. We loved it.
So this is an older hotel which has its charms, but the bathrooms can use some updating. The doors made of glass was odd but we never felt unsafe. The location is convenient to lots of restaurants and bars but that noise can travel (and we were on the 5th floor). The rooftop terrace was really nice. Spent couple hours one evening drinking wine (you need to bring your own) and enjoying the really nice views and weather. The breakfast is nothing more than a bagel and coffee/juice.
The cheapest price is for a very small room, sleeping 1-2 people. For 1 person, it's fine, but can be a little cramped for 2. Microwave and plates/bowls in the room were a nice touch. 2 main downsides were the complete lack of view or even daylight from the small window. On a sunny day at noon, barely a sliver of light made it to the the 3rd floor interior alley/corridor facing window. One other issue was the overly simplistic breakfast. One cereal, bagel, bread, English muffin, apple, yogurt, tea, coffee, and juices. I can't complain to much though, I ate happily, and most nearby hotels don't offer breakfast. The rooftop breakfast area also has a great view!
The hotel itself is rather average. Nothing special, but in no means poor quality. Just nothing really memorable. There was a noticeable difference in quality of service when dealing with the older personnel versus the younger - where the latter were actually somewhat rude or unconcerned with high quality of service in certain instances. Also worth noting: we were missing money (as in: all of it) that was accidentally left in a bag when we valet parked. Since I cannot confirm with certainty who was the culprit I don't necessarily hold it against the hotel itself, but it should be noted that likely the valet person (or someone with access to the parked cars) is responsible.
Our stay at the Gaslamp Plaza Suites was just beautiful. The room was gorgeous, and the staff really went out of their way to be friendly. It was a stay centered around my wife's birthday, and it was truly memorable. The location is great, too, right in the heart of the district. We will definitely be back!
Always have a wonderful time when I'm here! Love the location, rooms are always kept up, clean, tons of places to eat around the hotel. Staff is always friendly as well.
Stopped by Gaslamp Plaza Suites to see my dad for his birthday. The rooftop is an awesome place to just hang out and see the sights of downtown. The rooms are nice too. This used to be an office building and it's really cool to see how the retro fitted a hotel into the building. I can't wait to stay here myself!
We are timeshare owners at Gaslamp Plaza Suites for several years and love it. The hotel is vintage and the best of classic San Diego. The rooms have all been renovated and are very nice. Madeleine and Shawn are great to work with, as is all the staff. Since the hotel is right on a busy street, expect noise at nightbring ear plugs.but you couldn't ask for a better location or experience!
Plaza suites was an awesome hotel. It has a nice vintage vibe with a really great feel. The staff were friendly and helpful and pointed us to good restaurants in the area. I would definitely go back. My only complaint was the bed was kinda hard. But other than that, great hotel.
Came to this place for a quick getaway. I've stayed in some older places, but this one was a little run down, especially in the bathroom. The floors were uneven and the shower stall walls even bowed quite a bit. Wasn't too happy about the parking situation , but I own that mistake because I could have researched better. Staff was real nice though, that's a plus and the reason for the second star.
Also if you're not going to get obliterated in all the amazing places to eat and drink, good luck with any sleep. It's so loud! Pretty sure these are single pane windows. I'm 7 floors up and can clearly hear all the conversations below not to mention the discotecas on wheels (bike taxi) that blast music all night. Only plus here is that everything is literally a few blocks in any direction.
Stayed in the Queen suite for my buddy's bachelor party. Room was awesome, we all loved every part of our weekend. In a great location for the gaslamp, and everyone there made you feel extremely welcome! Definitely will stay here again in the future
My first time at this hotel and I will definitely be coming back here to stay again. The views of the streets were great. The hotel was very nice with very friendly staff from what we encountered. We loved the style of the rooms. Walking distance to many attractions.
The room was fine. A nice size for 2 people. Continental breakfast was always well-stocked. Where it falls short is how it compares to other vacation timeshare spots we've stayed at: no pool, no laundry, no fitness room. Room was a little dusty, too. Parking is exorbitant there: $32 a day with valet. Save money and use Park It on Market, it's 2 blocks away and $15 for 24 hours of parking.
The rooftop deck is great. We enjoyed the views from there.
