This is a very nice hotel, it is wonderfully appointed, many details. Each room has a semi private entrance. I had a changing area and bathroom with a separate sleeping area. There was s nice view of the San Diego downtown. The location is excellent very close to the gaslamp district and a short walk to the waterfront. Most of the public transit runs near the hotel you can easily hop on and get any where. It's a short ride from the airport as well.

If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can get one at HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around

Was a nice hotel that seems like it was at one time very luxurious and oppulent but now feels a bit dated. It is reasonably clean and the service was great but I kept thinking that if they did a full renovation this would be one of the nicest hotels in town. I would consider staying here again even though it felt a bit like going back in time.

We had a Wedding Reception in the Versailles Room, it turned out to be so amazing. 5 Stars for the Staff and Catering it was everything we could have hoped for and more. It was wonderful, the food was fantastic. Thank You Westgate Hotel for helping us celebrate our daughter's big day!

I visited the hotel for afternoon tea. It is a very nice experience. The service is great and the harpist really made the experience phenomenal. Two things did bother me: first, the valet refused to take our car and made us take it into the garage and second, the guests are loud and sometime you cannot hear the harpist playing.

Very nice rooms and excellent staff. However, don't get a room on the north side unless you want to listen to the metro trolley's horn all night. If you still hear it, make sure your balcony sliding door fully closes.

The size of our room ( the standard one ) was fantastic. Great water pressure and nice pool. The staff was quick and friendly. We had a hard time sleeping on the mattresses. They were pretty soft and seemed saggy in the middle. Could have been our preference though. There were times when it seemed like the hotel was a little understaffed as they were running around and we had to wait for a while to talk to a staff member or get our vehicle.

The hotel was beautiful and the service was excellent! Though, I considered parking elsewhere overnight and walking to the Westgate. $40 for valet parking, and there was no self parking. Plus an additional $20+ of fees during checkout. We stayed over for my mom's birthday. They brought her chocolates and a sort of sparkling lemonade with a nice note. She was surprised and delighted! There were green apples by the pool and exercise equipment surrounded by a running track. Then there were spa/massage options as well. Great location within walking distance of Gaslamp/Downtown restaurants, bars, shops, and more!

The entrance was a bit dramatic with a ton of employees outside tending to various so stations near the entrance. I was greeted almost excessively once I Actually found the entrance, which was in a surprisingly odd side of the building. Overall the room was pretty basic but lovely. What I didn't like was that the room next to me shared a common front door is really strange all that worked

Beautiful hotel within walking distance to convention center, two grocery stores and Gaslamp Quarter. We really liked the outdoor pool and workout area on the third floor.

Rooms are very large which could have fit a family of four easily but that was not the case for us. We were only able to book 2 people-per-room which meant we needed to book two adjoining rooms. Expensive.

Very noisy with the tram running back and forth right next to the hotel.

Feels like stepping through a time machine. They've done an excellent job at retaining the aesthetic while allowing for some modern amenities. The room was serviceable, but nothing overly notable. It's more the overall feel of the place that makes it. The gym/spa is fantastic, though.

We stayed here in our friend's room, and the service was great! The front desk told were very helpful, even coming up to the room with us to get us extra towels and blankets. The decor is pretty old school, and I did find it odd that the bathroom had two showers but only one sink. Overall, I was happy with the service and location.

The Westgate is a 4 star hotel. They emphasize excellent service, and the hotel is well-maintained, and run. That said, it's an old hotel, and I think there's been more emphasis on preserving what makes it historic and beautiful than what makes it functional. The shower leaked onto the gorgeous marble floor in the bathroom. The elegant antique faucets sputtered water out. This is a beautiful hotel, and the service is phenomenal, but expect some flaws.

The rooms are very large and extremely luxurious and have scenic views of downtown San Diego. I love that it's in the fun, hip Gas Lamp District, and that there is a trolley stop right outside. The rooftop pool and hot tub are amazing. The food is delicious, though the portions are a bit small, still filling. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable. One of the best hotels I've stayed in.

Elegant and classy hotel. The hotel is older but still has a lot of charm. There are sparkling chandeliers, a spacious spiral staircase, and many ornate touches in the hotel lobby. The hotel rooms are well appointed with a few classy older touches that you don't see at many other hotels including metal door keys (not key cards) and ornate bathroom sink handles. I stayed there for several days while attending a conference in downtown San Diego. The hotel recently totally overhauled their fitness center with the intention of serving hotel guests and San Diego residents that join as members of the health club. The fitness center is excellent with top quality machines, free weights, etc. My favorite machine was a state-of-the-art non motorized curved treadmill that was a joy to run on (more padding, less noise, novelty of machine). The fitness center is huge and spans three floors, including a rooftop pool area. I did not eat at any of the hotel's restaurants but I did observe some of the food when I walked by an event that they were catering and it looked delicious. I would stay here again.
