Our stay at the Hudson New York was great. We arrived early and even though the hotel had been fully booked the night before, the very friendly front desk staff rearranged things to get us into our room well before the standard check in time. The room was small, as we expected (it's NYC after all). However, the room was designed to maximize space with large mirrors on the walls, so the size wasn't an issue. The location is great (about a block from Columbus Circle and Central Park, and about 15 minutes walk to Time Square). We will definitely stay again.
Nice staff and that's about it. I hated this hotel. It was dark, dank and the halls reminded me of a welfare hotel turned "trendy hotel". Gray walls, Gray carpet was just ugly lipstick on an already ugly pig. And yes the other reviews about the size of the room are correct. If you're alone, you can make it work but not if you're with another person. The wood paneling in the rooms is nice and I'm sure used to cover what was probably too terrible to fix. That was a good choice. I will admit that I have not tried the restaurants here. The whole place just left me dissatisfied that I didn't even want to try them.
Staff are really friendly and helpful in the most part - however the rooms themselves leave something to be desired. We started off in a standard room which was small and only had a curtain to separate the bathroom from the bedroom. We were then moved to a room higher up in the building after requesting a bath - this one had a broken safe, a bath that wasn't retaining water and a broken door lock. The hotel itself has interesting decor and could be really nice, if it were for some TLC
People seem to be complaining about the size of the room. You don't go to New York to stay in your room it's big enough. The staff on the desk where really helpful and funny. Always believe in good customer service and this place has it. Location is brilliant, next to central park and the subway. 5 - 10 minutes walk to Times Square. Couldn't complain, would recommend to anyone and if coming back wouldn't hesitate to book here. Great value for money keep it up!!
Paid 250 for a single night in the smallest hotel room I’ve ever been in.
The room had dark wooden panels and mirrors which made it look quite nice, and the mattress was good. I would have slept well had it not been for a cold draft from the window and street noise so clear I thought the window was actually open. Front desk sent up someone but as the window was closed, they couldn’t do anything.
The bathroom had no hand soap, the paint on the shelves was chipped and the shower floor full of little black spots I first mistook for roaches. Turned out to be little holes.
From the entrance to the reception, the air was perfumed with an awful stench that made me sneeze nonstop. One has to wonder what it’s supposed to cover.
The only good things about the hotel was the location and the price. If those factors are all that matters to you, this is your hotel.
Staff are friendly but don't judge a book by its coverglossy on the outside, grubby on the inside. Once out of reception and terrace (very nice) the corridors feel like those of a storage facility and the rooms are tiny (and fittings falling apart - our bed and the A/C vanity cover where in shoddy shape).
Also, they charge you to hold your luggage, which says a lot for a so-called 4 star hotel.
Great shared spaces, lobby, library bar, and beer hall are fun spots. Great drinks and atmosphere for couples or groups.
Edit September 2017:
Above is still true and the sky terrace is really nice.
Room cleanliness is a growing issue. I found a grody old toe nail in my shower.
Small but elegantly efficient rooms. Everything we needed was in this compact space. The location was great, amenities were from a local firm and were exceptional, although if you don't like scented products, you might disagree. The bed was comfortable.
Went to Umami Burger in the Hudson Hotel. The hotel itself had an interesting decor and the staff were all very friendly. The burger itself was really, really good. Meat was delicious and cooked just right at medium temp. Fixings were tasty as well. The bun was a little hard and chewy though.
Nice hotel. The location is great. Staff seemed helpful and pleasant. There are a few negatives: the rooms are super small (but I don't come to NY to spend a lot of time in the room) and it can get very noisy from the streets outside. If you remember to bring ear plugs you will be just fine. For me, the location makes up for the room size and noise.
I asked for a fridge TWICE and never got it!
The housekeeper forgot to leave soap and shampoo etc twice.!
One day there were no washcloths???
I had put shopping bags from various stores in my closet, the evening I returned, they were gone And because I had no fridge, I put two cans of UNOPENED seltzer on the window sill
They too were gone???
I came to the hotel for business--and brought 90 other guests to the Hudson for a conference--I came here and recommended it
From a successful stay 9 months before
When I responded a couple of days ago to their questionnaire, I received a rather snotty reply ?!? The Marriott group needs to do better training.
Really enjoyed our stay. We were there for around a week. Room was very clean and well kept, with modern decor. TV and safe in the room. They had a place we could leave our bags on checkout day until we collected them in the evening. Only a 5 minute walk from Central Park. Come out the door and turn left to find a great deli for lunch and a great 24hr Diner for breakfast right on the corner. Staff were friendly and accommodating.
The Hudson Hotel is in a great location with a beautiful lobby. We received a very small room even though we reserved a larger one. The air conditioner in our first room made a pinging sound which kept us awake at night. We finally received a second room after three requests from the staff. The water pressure in the shower was nonexistent. The bathroom was incredibly small.
Location is hidden under scaffolding but once you enter you are greeted by an amazing staff in a beautiful lobby. The room I stayed in was smaller that I'd hope but very cozy. The surrounding area is great for couples longing for a romantic getaway for a few days. Very pricey.
6/5 stars if I could give it that. The hotel is beautiful. Very modern, incredible design, has 3 bars (one of which serves amazing burgers and another that is a nightclub). The staff was very friendly and helpful, hallways and rooms are extremely clean (although very small, but hey, it's NYC). They comped us $50 upon finding out we were staying for my girlfriend's birthday. Our room had all amenities including a mini fridge, flat screen TV on a movable wall mount, iron & board, etc. I loved my stay here. This will definitely be my choice of hotel upon returning to the city.
