Recently renovated, very clean and great location near Central park. However, the level of service falls far short of a JW Marriott labeled property. No coffee maker in room, no bottled water in room (even for Gold members)and front desk employees who grumbled about getting us water. Really sad You definitely pay for a JW property but do not get that level of service.

Except parking. Can pay about 30-40% less and offer more in tip if parking just a cpl blocks away or using parking apps (some apps will be worse be cautious). Come to city during "off-times" during day or very early to get best options. Otherwise, been here many times now and the upgrades on light switches are nice along with the general amenities and Southgate bar/restaurant always a plus.

My family stayed here during the week of Thanksgiving 2017. We were greeted by a woman named Sharlene, who was incredibly personable and kind. She asked what we were there for and I explained that my daughter had been excepted as a parade participant with Camp Broadway and she was so excited. A couple of days later we found a bag full of goodies in our room with a note attached from the staff at JW
wishing her luck in the parade. This extra effort really was kind and thoughtful and I know was initiated by Sharlene. The entire six days we stayed there the staff was incredibly helpful and made my family feel appreciated; they helped make this experience an unforgettable experience!
Our trip wrapped up as Sharlene checked us out of the hotel and once again, she was so personable as she asked my daughter about her parade experience. She is a 5* employee and a class act. I highly recommend this hotel and will be back.

Very nice hotel and great location. My wife and I are young and she was given a hard time just ordering a bagel at the restaurant in the morning. They made her feel like she didn't belong there. We stayed 3 nights and as much as this hotel costs you would think they'd try to accommodate all guests appropriately. Other than that overall good spot.

Beautiful hotel with old school-mannered staff! Our room on the 11th floor was recently renovated - chic, comfy and quiet (which was much appreciated after a long day in the city). The favorite part of our stay was Kevin from the Concierge dept. He made our stay truly unforgettable and never passed up a chance to go above and beyond. We loved checking in with him each morning to say hello and get his input/recommendations on our itinerary. Great job, Kevin! Oh and if you stay here, don't forget to pick up the little 'Concierge Corner' newsletter that has weather updates, tips, suggestions for current exhibits and activities around the city.

Staff was very friendly and attentive. My room was clean. Very nice set up, great for vacation. Just across from central park. Horse rides available, sometimes it smells like horse poop near the park.

This is such a beautiful hotel. I needed a wheelchair accessible room for myself and my family and the room that we were given was perfect. They are super family friendly. My children received a bear when we checked in and it is their favorite souvenir.

Gorgeous building with historic atmosphere. Definitely awe inspiring. Room was not ready at promised time, in fact over 3 hours late. When finally given a room, we found we were double booked with a family in the same room, that was awkward. The staff did recover with many apologies and some credit on the room account. Will I stay there again? No, but I will say I'm glad I did this time.

I call here my NYC home! I love, love, love it's midtown location and right across from Central Park! The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating! Quiet, cozy, and comfortable were the many suites we have stayed in! Delightful it is with access to their concierge lounge! They are in the process of updating floor by floor right now! Am looking forward to it!

I spend roughly 30 nights a year in hotels across the country. The two nights I stayed in the JW Marriot Essex house have been two of the best so far. Not only is the hotel impressively clean, orderly, and welcoming upon arrival, but the staff was incredibly helpful during my stay! They helped me above and beyond their job responsibilities giving me advice on where to eat, how to navigate the city, suggesting places to go and see during free time, and making sure that I had a wonderful trip while being a guest in their hotel. I highly recommend the JW Marriott Essex House!

Very beautiful hotel and fronts right on Central Park South. Everyone we've dealt with has been great, particularly Cesar at the front desk. Our room was a Manhattan suite, and it was spectacular.

My fiancé and I stayed here for a long weekend getaway in NYC. My experience was amazing. The staff was very friendly, which the exception of one woman who was less than polite, to put it nicely. The room was amazing very classy with a lovely view. Being right across from Central Park made our visit that much better. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to be treated with the utmost respect in a very fine facility.

I would like to give this hotel a 5 star, but to do so would mean a perfect experience with higher standards than a similar hotel, especially ones that are in the same Marriott hotel family that offer the same amenities or even a little less. Rooms are gorgeous, hotel is gorgeous, that's the 5 star piece, but what brings it down for me is the Executive Lounge experience and rules. It's open everyday for breakfast, not every day for dinner. My wife and I stayed here on the weekend (most people would for a vacation) and the Executive Lounge is not open for dinner Fridays or Saturdays, which means we didn't even get to experience it. Also, it's not accessible all the time for coffee or water. He's the best, my wife was sick in bed and I wanted to bring her some breakfast in bed. I made a small plate of food and put a cover on it to prevent spilling or accidental mess, and as I'm leaving with the food i wish the the Executive Lounge greeter (whos head was down looking at her phone and not paying attention) to have a good day. She immediately gets up and refuses to let me leave with the food and says it needs to stay in the lounge. I forfeit the food to her and go back to my room empty handed. Not only is this creating a bad experience for which I will not come back to this Marriott again, but they would rather throw away the food, tell I can't do something rather than be proactive and maybe possibly use a solution of offering room service to transport it to my room if they were worried about spilling or accident. Very disappointed.

A great hotel right across from Central Park. Staff is friendly and attentive and gave us great suggestions on places to go. Helped with setting up Taxi's and times to get places on time. Very clean room and very comfortable beds.

You can't beat this location! We went with children on a weekend. Though, there was a rather large blip in the check-in process (We were given keys programmed for a room others were occupying.), the staff was helpful overall. We had to find valets when we arrived, but they doted on us once they were at our car. A couple of the staff members were even excellent -- very kind to our children and determined to make the stay positive. The club has a great selection of fresh fruit, protein, pastries, yogurt, juices, coffee, and tea -- everything you could want for breakfast! The public areas were pristine. Many smiling faces held open doors for patrons. A great way to enjoy the city!
