So disappointing! I had a nice stay and wanted to come back, but the overnight staff are appalling. Inability to understand basic English spoken very slowly and clearly and repeatedly, and requires multiple repetition and double sending everything by email, which the staff member then fails to understand. Eventually due to lack of availability to extend my stay, agreed to refund my one night booking. However, rather than refund me, they thought the thing to do was to charge me again!! So, they have charged my two nights for no nights of accomodation. When I rang to question this I was advised 'he was trying to help me' and spoke over me and was arrogant and inappropriate. Seems to have zero idea what 'refund' means, seems to think a refund is a recharge. So odd and really really sad customer service

Extremely rude staff at the reception when we checked in and out. Usually the people in Australian hostels are way more nice than in this place. Otherwise the place is quite nice.

Friendly knowledgeable staff, great location, so clean and great prices in bar. Booked tours with the travel desk and got some great deals! Loved the communal food night they did aswell as the O bike vouchers.
So close to everything and I highly recommend Checking out the Rap Jumping which is there. So much fun!

Location is pretty good, esp for $23/night. I'd say the $10 deposit for room key is a bit annoying. Bathrooms are pretty clean so that's nicehowever the walls are a bit see-through.

Neat and tidy, reasonable price. Bring earplugs; between the extremely aggressive Melbourne drivers honking all night and the disco it'll be hard to sleep otherwise. Bar looked very lively.

My experience at Urban Central Backpackers was made extra special by the Amazing team of Derek, Paul, Raff and Harley who guided us through an amazing Rap Jumping Experience. You MUST check it out!

Basic accommodation, cheap, bu.u.ut cheap. Loud nightclub downstairs. I couldn't sleep till sometime after 3am, despite being on the diagonally opposite corner of the building. Ridiculous!! On the plus side: Friendly & helpful staff. Comfortable bed. if you can ever get to sleep. Lol. Next time in Melbourne? No! I'll pay more for somewhere I can sleep. Probably good for YSA & the dorm sections for backpackers. It has a self cook kitchen, a bar & pool tables. No fridge in the room. Drink & snack machines on every floor.

Urban Central is one of the best hostels I've been so far.
It looks fairly new, the rooms and facilities all round the place are great, comfortable and super clean ! The dorms are very spacious, reason why I booked this hostel on the 1st place.
It is a walking distance to the CBD, but you can always catch the free tram to go around if you walk a bit. Shops and markets are very close as well.
Big thanks to the staff, especially Hugh and Oli who were really helpful and made our stay even better.
I definitely recommend to stay at Urban Central.

Unbeatable for the price. Very clean with good beds. Only downside is there is no social culture at all. It's more like a hotel than hostel.

Surprisingly cleaner than I thought for a back Packers. Enjoyed it thoroughly. No booze from outside places is a bit rough though. But bar on site makes that a lot easier pill to swallow.

Great Southbank location. Rooms don't have more than 4 beds in each. Would definitely recommend as a budget hostel!

I did not really like this place. The dorm room was okay, but had a broken shower so I couldn't shower properly, the shower head was now on knee height or I had to hold it. Also I found it too bad that there was not a proper common room, only a kitchen and some small areas in the hallway of each floor, but some couches were broken and you couldn't remote the TV, it was broken. One more thing was that the kitchen was very small, but it was mostly clean and there was staff cleaning it all the time. They also have a free storage room and an elevator. The dorm room had air conditioning and its own bathroom, with a broken shower though, as I mentioned. I was happy that I booked another hostel after 1 nights.

There was a distinct smell throughout the hostel. The room that i was appointed to was clean. There was no flywire on the windows and the air conditioning unit was very loud. They also mange to override it and turn it off during the night. There was very large cracks/ marks along the wall.

Great location, nice rooms, good breakfast. The traffic is a little noisy but not too loud to sleep.

I really enjoyed my time at Urban central. To be honest i think i stay here about 4 weeks. The staff were mostly pleasant, the common areas were clean and i met some amazing travelers here. The only thing i will say is the bar could use some work! Oh yes and the location is great it is pretty central as the name suggests
