Concierge/Valet staff were definitely 5 Star, Reservations/Front Desk definitely 4.5 Star - Thank you sincerely for your impeccable service and helpful friendly character, you were the saving grace of my visit.
However - Grant Hyatt, Just because a guest takes advantage of a special price or promotion it doesn't mean you should automatically give them one of your lowest standard rooms, in a poor position next to the lifts. This is a crucial decider for many people who may not have stayed with you before as to weather or not they will come back at full price or not - For me I feel not, full price or promotional. One example - open showers, with nothing but a shower curtain to prevent (And fail) water flowing all over a guests bathroom floor - Poor design and functionality, let alone the linen needed to mop up the water so I didn't slip for a second time.
Without question, overpriced even at promotional rates for the room I got.
The room is clean and comfortable with all the amenities.
The breakfast buffet is very good with selections from Continential to Asian food choices.
The Hotel offers once a week Hi-tea at two different timing 1pm-3pm and 3:30pm-5:30pm. The food is satisfactory. However I am not too happy with the Hi -Tea service.
The maternity floor with Frances Perry is wonderful. Luxurious, staffed with fantastic midwives who are always available and helpful but leave you alone as much as possible. The Hyatt staff were also great - friendly, accommodating and prompt.
Beautiful hotel, room is great, but Maddy at the front desk was spectacular. She was so kind and helpful with information about the best places to go in the city, how to get around, and what's going on in town. Could not have asked for a more friendly or helpful check in experience. And I'm pretty pick and critical when it comes to these things, I'm not easily impressed. In a day an age when the art of customer service seems to be a lost one, I wanted to make sure an recognize Maddy for rising above and making a difference, so thanks!
Where can I potentially start?
The staff are not bad people, they do their job… but when something goes wrong, they're not willing to go that extra mile to provide 5 star service. Finding a used cigarette butt, rust stains on mirrors, mould on the ceiling and dust in every possible area, one can not find themselves coming to write a good review. They decided it would be appropriate to let me stay an extra night at the same rate (Which is okay, considering the events that shot the prices up in Melbourne that night), but really for a five star hotel, and given the circumstances one would expect more. They let me stay in the suite, deducted thousands of points from what they originally offered me, then credited a few thousand bonus points to the account. In the grand scheme of things, I was expecting a refund and an extension considering the circumstances. However they were not willing to budge in the slightest and clearly have no care in the world for your health and safety or the standards expected of a five star hotel. With plenty more options around Australia, and the world, I will probably give these guys another shot outside of Melbourne; but for now it just wasn't up to standards… not even close.
On a side note, I'll give the team at desk some credit for having some patience… it can't be easy for them to handle complaints when it is busy; but they really know how they can do better.
Huge, well designed, very clean suites with great bathrooms (toddler loved the huge bath). Rooms are quiet, with excellent block out blinds for keeping the outside light out. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Great views from the rooms. Any room service food we ordered was great, very prompt and serving sizes were generous, even on the kids menu. The room service coffee was really good, far better than would usually be expected. Lots of great dining options onsite too. Husband loved the Burn City pop up that was there during our stay. Loved the pool area.
Wonderful place to stay, rooms are big and well appointed, the bed very comfy. Amazing health club and the staff were very helpful and accommodating.. Would highly recommend also stopping off for a cocktail at the bar!
I've stayed in several 5star hotels around the world and The Grand Hyatt ranks up there with the best. The staff were what made the hotel so fantastic. From our initial chat with Jerome at the front desk who spent ages looking up dumpling restaurants, to Claire who helped us sort out late check outs and finally James (concierge from level 31) who absolutely rocked. James spent ages chatting to us and then left us a very personalised note after fixing our loyalty program booking. The hotel is beautiful, but the staff bring the genuine warmth and heart to the stay.
This is without a doubt the place to stay in Melbourne.
The staff are professional, friendly and only too happy to help. Room amenities are what you'd expect from Hyatt.
The location is close to everything, and while you can easily walk from shopping, restaurants or theatres, there is a tram stop close by should it be raining.
Take the time to do the afternoon tea. The cakes are amazing!
The wait staff were fantastic, friendly and very efficient. The food was tasty although a bit pretentious for my taste. I was attending a luncheon in the Mayfair Ballroom and was disappointed in the directions to the room. There was another event on the same floor which was clearly marked. The ballroom itself was poorly set out so that some seats did not have a visual line to the guest speaker. This was not just a case of an obstructed view, I was unable to see the guest speaker at all. I was also surprised at how plain the room was, perhaps my expectations were too high, however the room was quite banal
Hotel is lovely. Would be nice if they included memory foam pillows as those pillows are too soft for sleeping on. The bed is amazing though. Marble bathrooms. Great service. The restaurant wine serving though is such a small portion compared to the cost.
Hotel was beautiful! Definitely the best hotel in Australia. Its right in the center of Melbourne where everything is within walking distance. I would definitely recommend this hotel! The reason of the 3/5 stars was due to billing and staffing knowledge. Credit card machine was done when I left, was told I'd get a receipt via email, I didn't. Was told that local calling was free by two staff members at the desk (standing together), it wasn't. I had to call to get my receipt and when I did there was a charge for a breakfest that came included in my booking. Overall, not big deals but when using a corporate credit card, its a huge pain to resubmit a expense report. Feedback would be make sure the staff is aware of offerings and business customers #1 annoyance is incorrect billing on a company card.
If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. com Booked this hotel on there and they had the cheapest rates around
Genuinely service oriented hotel. It's a great long stay hotel, more than 3 days. You end up liking the place not hating it. Great variety of bedrooms, the bed linen used in the standard bedrooms feels rough and cheap, the one in the larger/suit bedrooms feels beautifully. Best view of Melbourne. Great lounge on the 31st floor, great gym. Pool and jacuzzi could be much better and use less chlorine.
Fantastic hotel in the heart of the CBD. I stayed at the Grand Hyatt for my wedding and I also booked my parents in. We were all delighted with our rooms and they couldn't do enough for us during our stay. They also left me a lovely bottle of champagne in my room for the big day. They replied to all my queries on emails prior to the wedding, so I felt at ease. I am from Melbourne and I am a member of the gym there, I am so comfortable there and it always makes me feel special to go there/stay there. What a great and memorable stay it was. I hope to stay there again for our 1 year anniversary!
