My boyfriend and I went to NYC and stayed at this hotel in December. After reading all of these bad reviews I had very low expectations but it was affordable and the location was great. I have to say that it exceeded my expectations in every possible way, the room was clean and comfy and the employees were really nice. My only complain is that on the day that we checked out, the elevators were always full and we had to take the stairs 6 floors down carrying heavy suitcases but this was our fault since we waited until the last minute and considering the amount of people staying at this place, it was predictable. I would stay at this hotel again given that the location is unbeatable and the place itself is really not bad at all!

Location: The location was right in the heart of everything! next to Macy and Penn Station and a 10 min. walk to Time Square and Rockefeller Center.
Hotel: Old and lots of character. Room is decent and clean enough for the age of the hotel (definitely nothing fancy). Lots of Elevators but slow getting on and off during check out time with no stairs leading to lobby (had to take creepy fire exit to outside and around to front of hotel just to get to lobby to check out).
    Staff: Friendly
Valet: Very helpful and car was fine when returned. However, found a parking violation ticket in my cup holder after I had left, and Hotel managers do not return calls and are hard to get in contact with to address this issue!

Friendly staff, people are very accommodating. We stayed here for 8 nights. The first day we arrived, all king size bedrooms were booked so they allow us to another room for a night and got our permanent room the second night. Fast key checkout! Pros: right in front of madison square garden! middle of downtown.

Excellent location. Got a beautiful view. It's an old historical hotel so the room decor and layout is charming. My double room was super HUGE!!! It was clean and smelled good. Don't expect a modern feel if that is what you are looking for.

Friendly and helpful receptionist ever, so lovely and great first impression of hotel. Couldn't have been more sweet, giving me directions to a function I was attending along with a helpful map, ensuring parking in car park and facilitating an early check in. If nothing else had gone right with hotel this lady ensured I would have left with a good impression. Fortunately everything about the hotel was exceptional, and I don't give praise lightly. It was clean, stylish, roomy with excellent service in both bar where we had lunch and restaurant where we had dinner. Food was beyond good and great value for money and service in both places attentive and efficient. Room itself was well equipped and comfortable. I could go on but suffice it to say I was very pleased with my stay, and although short and sweet this time, I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future.

Good: Great location in Midtown opposite Madison Square Garden and near public transportation.

Bad: Rooms are very old with no ceiling lighting, dated fittings and minimal ventilation. Real estate agents would call this turn-of-the-century.

Ugly: Worst ever check-in/check-out experience. It took one hour (timed it) to check-in late at night on a weekday as there were only two staff on duty to process 12-15 people. Checking out was not better. Thank goodness for the express key drop but don't even think about leaving your bags in storage.

This place is fantastic. Staff is friendly/ helpful and breakfast is a big plus!! The price is okay for New York City. My only concern was the news in the elevator. It seems to be for a targeted audience and an elevated is no place for bias political news.. stay to elevator music. So awkward

Ideally placed for NY attractions and directly across from Penn Station, so convenient to find after long journey from England. Room was a bit shabby, crack in sink but clean, and the shower was great. Reception staff appeared not to be very affable. The staff at the safe deposit area were very helpful and friendly. As were the shop/cafe staff. All in all a good experience and would probebly stay there again on future visits. Would recommend to friends as a central base.

The one star is simply because there is nothing less to give. This hotel has completely lost its splendor. There is nothing good to be said about this place except for the wonderful women who brought us towels, etc. The beds are just bare springs with a sheet on top. The toilet bowls are permanently stained and give out a sewage odor. The average wait for an elevator is 20 minutes. Stay elsewhere.

I've stayed there before, but it was never this bad. Our window was stuck open. We had 1 thin blanket and had trouble getting more when we called. There was a condom wrapper under the bed. The water in the shower would intermittently stop. When trying to check in and out, there were only 2-3 people working and lines that took 30 to 40 minutes. The guy working near the elevator was rude and made fun of us when we took the wrong elevator. The bar was closed abruptly at 1205 and we were kicked out with half of our drinks left. The location was perfect, and the price was lower than other hotels in the area, but it definitely was not worth it, and I will not be staying there again

Upon reception, you immediately get the sense to that the place is designed to be efficient and to get you to your room and settled quickly. Staff are attentive and friendly. The vibe is a little dark; the decor a bit dated. Amenities are there but don't seem to be the focus of much pride. They are just there in minimal supply, lacking any style, and too utilitarian. That may not be a criticism for many, especially if you're a business travel looking for a quick comfortable stop in the middle of the city.

I was not impressed by the interior. It was extremely outdated, we stayed in the 'basic' room, which looked like it wasn't renovated since at least the 60's. Cleanliness could be improved too.
Despite a good amount of elevators it took a while to get where you needed to go.
Location is great, prices aren't the worst but I would not stay there again if I didn't have to.

After reading bad reviews we were all scared of what was to come. I've stayed at 2 different hotels that have higher ratings than this one and this hotel was by FAR the best one. Check in and check out was fast and simple. The rooms were big and comfortable. The location was perfect from every landmark and right beside a subway. If you are thinking about staying here, think no more. Just do it!!!

I stay at this hotel two weeks ago, the receptionist lady just told me to swipe my card and didn't even they tell me that will charge $100 as deposit. The room it is too small and the wall it is very dirty look like Haven't done any kind of paint for so long. Second the bathroom i don't mind be very small but the bathtub is look like disgusting, I couldn't even shower, I paid the hotel that's what I get back. It is embarrassing to say that but I have to shower in my cousin home. It is so disgusted, I personally couldn't even believe that how dirty it is this hotel from outside is look ok but when you go to the room it look horrible. One last thing they told me that after I check out I will get back my $100 back to my credit card within 5-10 business day, as today is already been 2 weeks I still doesn't see my $100 back to my account. I will not even give 1 star to this kind hotel. It is horrible including the customer service. Please people that looking for hotel please look for something better quality they rate is $150 per night, I rather pay little bit more better quality and cleaner than this one.
The only thing they do is always said "I'm sorry I apologize I don't want to hear apologize will not help me "
