We have stayed here over the last 20 years many times, you can say they are our home away from home. I have a child that is now an adult with CKD who had many surgerys at the hospital, I have had many hospital visits and our most recent this past week was for my husband. Yes this hotel needs updating there has been times the hot tub has been down we stayed at another chain a few years ago for this reason paid twice as much and guess what their pool and hot tub shut down. It happens. This by far is our favorite and we tried several places the first few years but after that this has been it. For many reasons, sometimes we need many rooms, we have a huge family, the breakfast is always great compared to other places, the pool size is awesome!! Staff is always excellent and helpful I'm disabled and they always help carry stuff or warm things up for me if I need it.

I called two weeks prior to our stay and they confirmed the pool would be working for our stay. It was only posted on the door of the pool that it was under construction, nothing listed on the website either.

No one at the front desk had any words to us when checking in, no thank you, if you need anything, etc. Just cold customer service. Someone had left our room door overlooking the pool construction open so it smelled rather toxic in there. The beds were older with worn sheets that could be changed out. The book of information in the room was stained all over. Looked like they fished the sheets out of the garbage can. We didn't get a single ice bucket so we had to use the trash can (gross).

Just in general, the up keep level was very low. I've stayed at cheaper hotels with better up keep and care for their customers!

Rated 3 stars but is more like a 1.5. The tub was rusty and cracked. The furniture was scuffed and dented. The pool was nice but the towels were terrible. No evening refreshments (again, was advertised as a 3 star - we were expecting a little more) the carpets were dirty and gross. The tv, phone, and 2 of the lamps didn't work in our room. They wouldn't give us a receipt upon checkout. The outside of the building was not well lit or well marked.

I want to personally thank the Clarion Highlander Hotel and Conference Center for allowing The Women's Power Networking to host a Masquerade Gala for 2 non-profit organizations, Shelter House in Iowa City and House of Hope in Cedar Rapids on Friday Night. As an organization of women, we see the growing need of charitable organizations across Eastern Iowa's Creative Corridor. The Clarion happened to be in a very good location for us to do that.

The staff was excellent to work with and the Hors d'oeuvres were very good. I personally worked with many of the staff members while setting up and they accommodated everything I needed to make the Masquerade Gala a success. Thank you, The Women's Power Networking will be back. - Kimberlie Lower

Very over priced for what we got. Hot tub wasnt working. Plenty of garbage on the room floor, half chewed dog bone, condom wrapper, gum wrapper etc. Carpet torn and I'm not a rich snobby person. Lol I'm an outdoorsman that can handle rugged places. I'm just upset that the hotel we are in now cost $5 more and is Much Much better. Go to Hampton Inn if u can. Happy Travels

Felt very unappreciated as a customer holding our wedding at this location. Made me and my family feel like an inconvenience. Also, our guests found the front desk staff eating out of the gift bags we had made for our guests. Very frustrating and disappointing experience.

This was a useful property in it's day, but waaaaay past it's prime. Lots of rooms and space but needs update & maintenance. Huge pool but closed because of lack of maintenance.

I came here because it was near the freeway, had a spa, and a restaurant/bar. The spa is under construction, and the restaurant/bar closed.
