Comfort, quality.MATT is the best front desk clerk EVER. I went through something traumatic and he was genuinely here for me! The other desk clerks, kitchen staff and housekeeping are all extremely friendly and helpful as well! Would stay here in a heartbeatespecially if MATT still works here! So very helpful and compassionate!
Room was fine, hotel seems nice and up to date. Temp control in the room was actually pleasant; something that's rarely so in hotels. The sofa sleeper hadn't been cleaned prior to our arrival; the sheets were slept in and not laundered. Hot tub was out of order. Breakfast was decent. A few hot items in addition to your normal continental. One front desk worker was supremely helpful; a couple others, not as much.
I'd probably check out other nearby offerings before booking again, but ultimately would stay again if other options proved less appealing.
This hotel is located just off the downtown area and is just a short walk to several nearby restaurants and convenience stores. The hotel is modern and updated; our room was lovely and had a nice view of the river. We had a king bed, which was extremely comfortable; we both slept very well. The bathroom was large and well appointed. Everything was extremely clean and well maintained; the staff were friendly and accommodating. We often stay with friends when we're in Iowa City, but we would gladly stay there again!
Stayed here for 2 nights mid-February. The two women working the desk (one was a manager) were not at all friendly. We checked out with bill in hand and a few days later we noticed an additional charge on our credit card statement for $9+. Called the Hilton main number to find out what the additional charge was for and was told that after we checked out someone went in, changed our room rate for one night and charged our card! The representative credited the charge with no problem but had no explanation as to why this would ever be an acceptable practice. Check your credit card statements carefully, people!
Nice rooms. Clean and with plenty of space to stretch out. Comfortable beds. Delicious breakfast. Friendly staff. Would stay here again. Would highly recommend to others. Needed somewhere close to the children's hospital and this location worked out great for that. Several dining options within walking distance. Quiet hotel with good a nice view of the river out the hallway windows facing the eat.
The staff was great, and put me in a new room when the first room was not cleaned.
It was a good stay, with a comfy queen bed and pullout couch. A tiny shop in the lobby was nice and supplied some stuff I had accidentally left at home. My only qualm was that after house keeping came there was a lot of hair in the sink that was not there before.
Nice setting, but no access to Wi-Fi without being an overnight guest and cell service was blocked inside.
We always try to stay in Hampton Inn hotels no matter where we go. Always happy with our stays and this hotel doesn't disappoint.
The overall feeling after walking in is quite settling. Modern as well. Beds and pillows were AWESOME. Only complaint is that the breakfast area could be bigger. A lot of people in a small area during breakfast hours causes for a lot of holdup and lines, with nowhere to really stand.
My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel for two days July 2nd thru July 4th…and needless to say the service was appalling, generally speaking.
We got there on the 2nd around 530 PM to check in and instead of being greeted by a real person, we were greeted by a sign that said they were away and if you need immediate assistance press 0 on the lobby phone. After waiting a few minutes - we pressed 0 on the phone…after doing that, nobody answered and we were still waiting to get checked in. Finally after 10ish minutes - a guy showed up, apologized that we had to wait and gave us our room key. However, he almost forgot to give us our Hilton Rewards benefit for staying at this hotel - he did correct it and we were on our way.
When we came back on the evening of the 4th - to our surprise, our room was not serviced at all! Trash wasn’t emptied, towels not restocked, or bed made. Totally blew my girlfriend and I away - we tried calling front desk using the room phone and it was inoperable. Finally got a hold of someone using our cell phone multiple times - the clerk came right up to change the liners and brought up a few towels so we could take a shower after a long day. She said she would work with Housekeeping and would notify the front desk of the issues to address when we check out the next day.
My girlfriend was on her way to check out and overheard the front desk clerk, Ryan and housekeeping and maintenance gossiping about another guest that experienced similar issues the same day. It was truly appalling to hear such gossip right in front of other guests. My girlfriend told front desk clerk about the issues we had and he basically said that there wasn’t anything that he could do for us. No discount on the room, no comped room, or even an apology. As she walked away he should hear them resuming the gossiping of disgruntled clients.
Overall, we stayed because of the convenience, price and based on our positive stay last time at this hotel - but after the horrid treatment and lack of hospitality the front desk displayed toward my girlfriend, I will be contacting General Manager at this property, the management at Hawkeye Hotels (who is the owner of this property) and Hilton Guest Services regarding this experience. Hopefully I hear back from from management regarding our stay and hopefully they will be interested in making a terrible experience into a positive outcome, because I’d love to update my review to reflect the hospitality that is usually shown at Hilton Hotels. Otherwise, I’ll dispute the charge and let our credit card company take care of them for us.
***UPDATE***
As mentioned in the previous post - if I heard from the hotel management regarding my stay, I would update this post.
I did hear from the General Manager, Adam via email the following day. He was extremely apologetic and appalled that his team dropped the ball. He did refund my stay without any issues and will be using the review originally posted as a teaching tool for his team.
After talking with Adam - it sounds like this was an isolated incident and would definitely consider staying at the Hampton Inn in Iowa City again.
Very nice hotel. Good breakfast and comfortable rooms!
Fresh, clean, roomy with a full breakfast and a good gym. Plenty of parking outside and several restaurants nearby. They have a little supply store next to the front desk that is well stocked and open 24/7. You do regularly have to wait for anyone to show up at the front desk, but when they do they are helpful and professional.
Service was great, it's a newer hotel and everything looks super nice. Renting the meeting room and went to check it out before we have had it and the staff was very accommodating.
Nice, clean, and staff was professional. Only thing bad to say is breakfast is a solid try. Not great and only basics.
The rooms are very nice. Hot tub rooms are wonderful. Clean facility. Nice staff too.
Really good quality room, polite staff, and included hot breakfast
Clean rooms. Good beds. Tasty breakfast options. Love the Herky in the lobby.
Nice rooms also clean. They let us check in early. Good breakfast buffet.
Room was just fine. Pool was over chlorinated- even for a hotel. The check in experience was abysmal. No one was at the front desk upon our arrival (around 6:30 PM). A sign on the desk instructed me to use the phone on the wall for immediate service. I picked up the phone and then listened as my call rang to the phone behind the un manned desk all while holding a ton of bags and trying to keep two kids entertained. So, I let it ring and then waited. Eventually a housekeeper showed up behind the desk (10 minutes + later) and checked me in without so much as an apology. I know that people in Iowa likely have low standards when it comes to Hotels, but those of us fortunate enough to live somewhere else do not. What a terrible experience.
