First of all, the hotel itself is hidden off the frontage road. Then the main entrance doesn't really look like an entrance at all. The woman working the desk in the evening, Courtney I believe, was very nice and personable. I kinda looked around and the place seemed absolutely DEAD. No one walking around, no vibe at all. Just a miserable place. They did have christmas music playing in the lobby. That was a bonus.

I walked to my first floor room and noted first the smell, it was a mixture of must, perfume and smoke. Not a good combination. Next I noticed how every single door was dinged and damaged to some degree. Some worse than others. It was noted that some of the doors were damaged at the door frame like someone tryed to pry the door open. What's up with that?

I got to my room and prepared myself for the worst. To my surprise the room itself was in really good shape (see pics). The kitchen was stocked with kitchenwear and the bathroom was neat. The bed was pretty comfy as well.

As for the remaining parts of the all suites hotel. The parking lot is poorly lit, especially when you park under or near the overgrown and unkept trees. It leads to some pretty big shadowy and dark areas. At least they did have onsite security walking the parking lot. Kudos for that. Some of the card readers on the exterior of the building didn't work. So, if you exited the building via a side entrance, you had to walk around to the main entrance to get back in everytime.

One other complaint was the lack of any kind of business center. I had documents that needed to printed off, but could not because they didn't have a business center. I had to email my documents to Itsy, yes that is a name, at the front desk. She was very helpful and clutch for printing off the documents I needed.

Overall, you get what you pay for and I will say that I expected more from this place. Especially since they are a part of the IHG network. I'm sure this property is privately owned and maintained. Thus the reason for it's short-comings. I hope IHG quality control checks this place out soon.

Bottom line, I will pay more next time to get the amenties and quality I've grown accustomed too. Even it it means dropping the IHG brand of hotels from my prefered lodging list.

To the places credit, it looked to still be under renovation, but the building is old and smells musty. When we arrived, there was no one at the front desk. When they did get to checking us in, they said they were working on the water heater so there was no hot water for a few hours, which wasn't that big a deal. But due to the lack of hot water, they had no spare sheets which we needed for the pull out bed since we were 2 adults and 2 kids. They told us to wait about an hour and they would bring us extra sheets. That didn't happen. We went downstairs and no one was there. We made do for the night. Then in the morning, during checkout, again no one was at the front desk.

It's a two-star hotel for a few reasons: - it's kind of a nightmare to get into and out of from the highway, which is the only way in or out. This was the most stressful part of the stay. - it's next door to a certain "legitimate business" I probably can't legal name here. For all intents and purposes these two businesses share a parking lot. - cleaning service (for the bed, linens, towels, etc) is weekly - there was a very funky smell by the elevator on the first floor - there's a smell of mold when you first turn in the heat (a rare thing in San Antonio, true) On the plus side, the girl on the front desk was helpful and professional.

Not helpful at all. Had 4 rooms at this hotel. One of the rooms was dirty and another had a roach creepy crawling across the ceiling. Ended up needing 5 more rooms. Thankfully before I booked them my guys arrived and had to deal with bad customer service too. So we will go back to staying at Best Western down the street. It's nice, clean and great staff that will work with you. Glad i did not book 10 rooms for the next 2 weeks here.

I've been to a fancy golf resort and I have to tell you, this place is so much better. The room is nice and well sized, bathroom too, the tv was clear and had great options. The staff was super friendly, and both the desk space and kitchen were large with glasses and a full fridge with its own ice maker. No continental breakfast and the very sizable elevator jolts a bit. Parking is a little wierd and the place is hidden behind a porn shop. Despite that, I still give it 5 stars. Well worth it.

Nice central location. Staff was very nice. I just think it could have been cleaner. Garbage was piled up in the hallway by elevators. I dont think piles of garbage should ever be in a guest's view. Our comforter had a big yellow stain. Dirty base boards. Still, it was a nice stay.

We needed to stay several weeks for an internship. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The room is clean and in good shape. The location is a little hard to find, and the one entrance can be missed easily.

Rooms were very spacious and neat. Manager was friendly and staff was very helpful. Bathrooms were clean and plenty of towels. Recommend for an overnight stay, though I was only there for a visit.

Nice place for the night, friendly staff (particularly the night staff). Rooms were nice with lots of amenities, but could use some repaired here and there. (Loose tile in the bathroom, dent under the carpet) everything seemed clean and fresh

I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Candlewood Suites San Antonio Northwest Medical Center. The kitchen provides all of the modern-day amenities you are accustomed to in your own home. The bedroom is separate from the living area so I was able to have guests without interrupting my husbands sleep. The staff is excellent and friendly. I would recommend all those who need the Comforts of home to book their stay at Candlewood Suites.
