Its a place to sleep thats for sure. Nice view. But what's so sad is this place looks like it was poppin in the day. But so outdated and defiantly needs some cleaning. But u get what u pay for I guess
If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around
It looks like, had been an awesome place, but not well maintained. The pool is supposed to be opened till 10 pm, but no lights were on past sunset. There were a couple lizards roaming around my room. Housekeeping was clean and effective, 5 stars to them. It has a great Bayside sunbathing area. I could catch a glimpse of some big green lizards there (probably iguanas)

Well you get what you pay for here. It's a little cheaper than the bigger more known resorts but it is also a bit behind the times. The room is very old and bit on the dirty side, the bathroom is kinda nasty and could use a deep clean. The towels had a few brown spots on thembring your own! The only plus here is the room is a good size and has a nice suite kitchen area. I would not recommend this place to a friend. The only reason I gave it three stars is because it's on the cheaper side and you get what you'd expect.
If i could not leave 0 i would. Tv don't work and was told 2 star hotel like I'm someone who stays in a 5 star. It don't matter what star hotel u stay in it comes with a tv that works. Don't waste your money
Good atmosphere and proper maintenance of rooms. Good service from staff and friendly enough to help with finding local activities.
Absolute worse place im the history of all hotels. Beyond disgusting. It is the cheapest place to stay on Key West but not worth it. In fact in a few more days the desk clerck said they were demolishing the hotel and building a new one.
The Banana Bay Resort is nothing short of a catastrophe, a place that probably should not be in business. Let me start off by sharing the facts of my one night stay.
- Stayed in room 202
- The smoke alarm was missing from my room (removed from the wall)
- The balcony light is not controllable and cannot be completely blocked from shining into the room.
- The room had two remote controls, neither one turned the TV on / off
- The bed creaks and squeaks because it’s made up of same material wicker baskets are.
- Toilet runs constantly.
- Doesn’t appear the bathroom drain has been cleaned since Clinton was in office.
- Pool furniture is in disrepair.
- The message light on my phone blinked throughout the night, couldn’t retrieve the message.
- Front desk did not answer the phone when trying to resolve issues at 9 and 11 pm.
- Couldn’t get steady warm water for showering, it alternated between hot / cold every 30 seconds.
- The property was gross and not well maintained.
What makes all of these things unacceptable? The $199 + tax per night does.
When I checked in, the first question from the front desk attendant was, “Do you have a lighter?”. I thought it was an odd question, but I think it could be tied into the fact my room was missing the smoke detector. Speculation aside, I lost half a day of my vacation because the bed in this room was crap, so much so, ambien, advil pm and other sleep medication couldn’t put me down because it was uncomfortable, noisy in addition to multiple other room issues.
This property is not unique, not special and not worth the $199+tax a night I was paying. The only thing this property does right, it allowed me to cancel the rest of my reservation without charging me. Any ramada inn or howard johnson is light years ahead of this place in every category.
After losing half a day because of my lack of sleep, I booked into the Sheridan for $219 per night. The Sheridan is across from the beach on the south side of the island, across from beach with amazing rooms.
Hopefully Banana Bay can fix their property and bring it into alignment with others in that price range or it should lower its prices. In their current state, they should not charge more than $75 a night.
Am still here but I don't understand the negative reviews because this hotel is decent considering all the other hotels are expensive. You must understand that Key West gets battled with Hurricanes and storms and so the upkeep of the property has been through a lot of this. There's ample parking spaces, there's a pool that the depth is 4-6 feet so this place is for Adults only and if you can't swim don't go in the pool. There's a nice view of the water harbor in the back of the hotel. I got a great view from room second floor -room 210 overlooking the pool. There's a porch, a fridge and microwave in the room and ice machine on the first floor. There's a free continental breakfast. You get what you pay for and plus more. Also, this is located on a major street - Roosevelt Road which is close to malls, markets, restaurants !!!
I unfortunately had the opportunity to stay at the Banana Bay Marina Key West (as it was booked for me by my employer) on Wednesday November 2, 2016 to Thursday November 3, 2016. I arrived late, approximately 2 AM and found the front doors locked. A sleepy looking man who spoke very little English opened the door and checked me in rather quickly. When I arrived at my room #201 the first thing I notice was the smell as it hit me in the face. The room had a musty stale smell and the air conditioner was on. The room was gross. To start, the door did not close all the way, the inside of the door was very dirty and the door frame was rusty. The bed had what appeared to be mosquito netting above it which was covered with dust, it appeared it hadn’t been cleaned since it was put up when the place opened. The air conditioner was gross looking and when I looked at the filters I figured why the room had a smell to it. The filters were caked with dust. I walked to the outside balcony area, found the other side of the A/C was even worse. While on the balcony I found an illegal drug pipe sitting on the window ledge. My sliding door did not lock properly even though it had two locks and neither worked. Luckily I was on the second floor. I found what appeared to be mold in the ceiling. One of the light fixtures in the main room was gross looking and dusty. The bathroom light fixture which had three bulbs only had one working. The wall next to the light switch and was light switch were gross, covered with nastiness. The inside bathroom door was also covered with nastiness (grime). Last but not least, it appeared the house keepers are reusing bars of soap. I looked at the soap box which looked worn, I opened the box and inspected the soap and it looked like it had been previously used. The place needs to be closed. My advice, do not stay here. I will upload photos I took, however I’m not sure if they will be associated with this review.
