This place is over the top! We spent 1 week as a family on an annual reward trip and I typically can be critical about things as I have traveled extensively. I did not find any negatives worthy of mentioning. This place is fantastic. Due to the US/Mexico travel advisory level being raised, we did not leave the resort (many in my group did with no issues). after 7 days in pampered paradise, I still do not see any reason to leave! lol
Driving to work today my son rolled his window down and said: "Can I get a shuttle to the Zen Pools?"
There are too many positives to mention. My advise as a high income, well heeled, extensively traveled Floridian; Go now!

First let me say that this resort is easily the nicest I’ve ever been to. The staff, the food, the room, the pools, the activities, etc. I can not say enough wonderful things about everything you receive at this resort.
When we arrived they drove us to the Grand Class area as they were planning on upgrading us. Unfortunately we couldn’t do that as we had our 8 year old son with us and it’s a 16 and older area. They then drove us to where we were booked to stay in the Zen area. Besides slipping in the shower and breaking my wrist this next bit was the only main hiccup of our trip. When we got to the Zen they informed us they didn’t have the suite we’d booked available and we owed money for our son. I showed them the confirmation, which our son was included on and then emailed everything to the staff member that greeted us. They then found a room for us for the week. I will have to say this was not the smoothest way to start our trip but mistakes happen. Despite this and the extremely slippery shower our trip at Grand Velas Riviera Maya was amazing and we would definitely return. We look forward to trying their other resorts as well.
A few tips: book at the restaurants you’d like to go to ahead of arrival as they do not pack you in and it’s hard to get a reservation at certain restaurants.
Be careful around the pool areas. Especially at the Zen pool as it’s extremely slippery.
Find an area you’d like chairs by any of the pools or the ocean. Befriend whom ever is working that section to guarantee having a chair and umbrella.
Your personal concierge can be very helpful but depending on who you get you may need to be the squeaky wheel.
If you do get hurt the doctors are wonderful and helpful. You pay the first visit but the second is included.
Lastly wear water shoes in the shower. Even with the mat provided it’s still dangerous.response / report this review -

Best Resort in Mexico! The quality of service, cleanliness, and friendliness of staff, is impeccable! From ecological house-keeping, to five-star room-service, seamless banquet service and performance, and dream-like culinary experiences during dinners out in the restaurants. Absolutely everything - right on point. Top-notch service. Very professional in every aspect, and every department. I look forward to recommending, and returning to Grand Velas Riviera Maya. Thanks so much to everyone who helped make this experience for both my Mom and I, a very memorable, and pleasant one.

By far the most luxurious all-inclusive resort we have EVER stayed at-- we truly felt like royalty and couldn't get over how well we were treated during our stay! Gabriel, a Grand Velas employee, was our favorite staff member! (He is usually located at the Zen Pool!) He went above and beyond to make us feel extra special and definitely took care of every request we made with a smile on his face. His manners and politeness were noticed and appreciated by all. He made our experience even more amazing than it already was!

Grand Velas was everything that we heard it was, and yet so much more.
Our personal concierge, Paulina was amazing. She was always near in case we needed her and and "made that need" happen. The pool concierges were equally amazing. Julia and Gabrielle always were on hand to ensure that we were well hydrated and fed throughout the day. The food. The food was amazing. I don't think that we could have had as many consistently delicious meals on any other vacation. Always sit down dinners with fantastic bottles of wine. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, one of our family members had a food allergy which could always make a trip abroad uneasy. Amy, the guest service manager, together with Paulina, ALWAYS made sure that he was able to eat food from the same restaurant and made us feel 100% SECURE that it was cooked in a safe environment. The Grand Velas team has made it very hard for us to consider going anywhere else besides there in the future.response / report this review -

Superb. If you want to experience the very best level of service in Mexico, here is where you want to be. This impressive Resort will blow your mind away and will keep you coming back. I just came back to the USA and I can't wait to go back and experience it again.

Amazing all-inclusive resort. Setting was crazy, food was lights-out, and service outstanding. Cancun/Playa de Carmen area has a really rocky ocean floor in the surf as you first wade in from the beach some other resorts nearby groom swimming/wading areas for you, removing all the rocks so it's soft and sandy under your feet as you wade out. Grand Velas does not, and that is sort of a bum bum. But hey, that's the way the region really is, so in a way it's just keeping it real Still, my feet didn't like keeping it real. Everything else about the property and the stay is a vision of perfection, except the check out process was unnecessarily burdensome and long Especially if you are rushing to catch a flight. We had lots of time, so it didn't add stress, but it seemed silly to make us individually settle up at the counter and fill out a lengthy survey before they would give us this paper slip that tells the shuttle driver it's ok to go ahead and driver us away. Hey guys, you had my credit card on file for incidentals If I owed you something (which I didn't), just do what every other hotel in the world does and charge me already. Still, the experience is so over the top, there was no way for me to remove a Star.

Loved our experience at Grand Velas! We stayed at Zen and loved the beautiful rooms, tall ceilings and calm, peaceful atmosphere of the rooms surrounded by jungle. The shuttles were available all of the time and got us conveniently to and from the beach in a matter of minutes any time we wanted. All of the grounds were immaculate, service was wonderful and the food was great everywhere we went. We will be back to this fabulous resort!

The resort was amazing and our vacation was outstanding. The service and food were exceptional. Our kids loved the pool and the entire experience.

Great place, beautiful beach, wonderful food. Just make sure you lock up your valuables, the maid staff WILL go through your luggage and backpacks EVERY time they clean. Seems a little too organized to be random. Overall a good experience.

Great resort and wonderful service. The staff ensured that any of our needs were taken care of as well as giving helpful suggestions to ensure we had a awesome stay. This was our fist time in Mexico and we will only be staying at this resort when we do go back. So much to do and see that it will take many trips to exhaust our stays.

All I can say - spectacular! It's like coming to paradise. The best service I had from any of the resorts I've been to, and I've been to many.
All inclusive resort with very good restaurants. Especially Azure for buffet breakfast and Bistro for both lunch and dinner. Dinner at Piaf is a must: spectacular food and very good extensive wine list. Sommelier knows his business, as does the chef.response / report this review -

This resort is beautiful and perfectly maintained. The Ambassador pool is amazing and enormous. The grounds are beautiful and perfectly maintained. The service was perfect. The staff were somehow able to know what I wanted before I even knew it myself. Service was seamless and I don't think I ever heard the word "No" during my stay. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Absolutely loved our stay here. This place deserves 6 stars all around. Very prestige classy designer made In Every detail. Looks great with perfect view and warm clear water. Staff is extremely professional and does not bother anyone. Family friendly place without any wild trashy parties. Very classy and extremely clean. Just perfect

Totally in love with this place!
Grand Velas staff seems to anticipate all your needs. The spa is a memorable experience. Besides the luxurious suites and white sand beach, the emerald-blue pools are warm and you can sip a variety of delicious cocktails admiring the ocean or the jungle in a total relaxing atmosphere. The different restaurants offer snacks to fine dining world cuisine. So if you go to Grand Velas forget about the diet prepare to relax and have the best time ever!response / report this review -

We had the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday at Grand Velas. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff as well as the beautiful surroundings and grounds of the hotel really made the holiday extra special. We loved the contrast of the Zen section in the jungle and the beach section at the Ambassador. The food quality and choice was superb. Our butler concierge Aaron was very attentive and helpful at all times. He really made us feel looked after and we felt sad to say goodbye.
Our only criticism would be that at least one bar should remain open to older children later than 10pm (11/11.30pm would have suited us better). We travelled with an 11 and 14 year old and although the kid and teens club are open til late we wanted to spend time as a family in the evening so it would have been nice to spend some time after dinner in one of the bars - e.g. the sports bar.response / report this review -

Amazing experience - thrilled to have spent 4 days at Grand Velas. Service was impeccable. While we were a bit hesitant to stay in the Zen Suites part of the property given its location and the need to use a shuttle to and from the beach area, we were so happy to have stayed here - much quieter than the Ambassador area and unique with beautiful walkways carved through the jungle. The zen pool was beautiful as well. The shuttle was quick, easy and comfortable and we never found ourselves waiting. The ONLY drawback to the property was the ocean - being that it was quite rocky. We still spent a lot of time on the beach, but opted to swim in the pools rather than the ocean.

The staff here excels in customer service. They go above and beyond to please their guests! Love staying here. We had room 1042 in the Ambassador suites, which was very convenient to the family pool and bar about 100 feet from our patio. Spent most of our time in the adult pool/beach area though, since our kids were not with us on this trip. Adult areas are very peaceful. Food service is great and restaurant choices are plentiful for an all-inclusive resort. Gym was just fine. Spa facilities were first-class! Be sure to do the hydrotherapy before your massage or facial - it is wonderful!

We loved the pools, probably the biggest pool area of any resort we ever stayed at. Service was good overall, I think they really go out of their way to try to make it a great experience. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - we had a few issues with communication that didn't get translated well. The doors to the rooms and the bathroom area are big, heavy and make a lot of noise when closed. Small children can't even close some of them. They look awesome, but aren't the best for convenience. They do have a LOT of things going on every day for kids, we especially liked the daily water polo games. We're vegetarians, that seemed to really throw them for a loop - they really went out of their way to try to accomodate us, but the food was just OK for us while we were there. Beautiful area. A great experience overall, we travel a lot, this was about normal for what we expect from a high end resort.

Five days and four nights I will not forget! The personal care from every member of your staff is the standout for me. We had all of our questions answered with a smile and all of our requests fulfilled with friendliness and efficiency. A special mention should be made of our concierge, Oto. He took the time, every time, to satisfy our needs. The food was excellent as well. Truly a vacation paradise of the utmost luxury!
