The Esmeralda is beautiful. Large, clean room. They stock the mini bar daily. Pepsi, 7-up, water, vodka, rum, scotch and potato chips. Food is very good and the staff is nothing but gracious and polite. Lobby bar serves top shelf liquors at no extra charge. Our butler, Felix was fabulous. He even came to our room and made a rose petal bubble bath for my girlfriend just to make us feel welcome. The only bad thing i can say is that people get up at like 6am to put towels on chairs at the pool and then show up at noon. It was our first time here and I can't wait to come back. If you want a safe and beautiful vacation come here!

I had an amazing time in D.R it was my first time here and I already miss sunshine and the beach. The staff was amazing , they were accommodating and patient the whole time , I was worried about the language barrier before arriving but , luckily there was always a staff member who spoke English. My friends and I meet the some amazing staff member throughout our trip the waiter Carlos and waitress Sandra in Jasmine restaurant they were so kind they had excellent customer service. Overall the resort was beautiful , clean, and had excellent food and music I can not wait to return!!!

The grounds on this resort are very well kept. Nice beach and pools. Rooms are average and ours could have used some minor repairs and fixes (especially the bathrooms). Overall the staff was friendly but a few staff members were not very helpful even when asked for help. One member of our group had recent surgery and was not able to walk very well so we were hoping to rely on the golf carts for getting around the different areas. However a few times we were unable to get rides on their golf carts, being told to "Just walk, it's not that far". A more helpful attitude would have been nice. Service at the restaurant could also be improved with drink orders being forgotten (or having to be asked for 3 times) and sometimes arriving at the end of the meal when we were about to leave.

This is an all inclusive resort at its finest. It is a great location near the beach with nice pools close by. The bar service at the beach is wonderful with a talented staff working hard to make sure you are comfortable and relaxing. It was perfect for my family of four as we were able to enjoy all the activities without feeling claustrophobic. Keep up the great work! We will be returning : )

Room was nice and well maintained. Employees were wonderful and very attentive, every time I needed a drink an employee was there. Only complaints I really had was the unspoken rule of the pool and the food. People would place there towels on a chair first thing in the morning and expect to have that seat whenever they showed up in the afternoon. This caused a ton of problems not only for myself but other people I saw trying to find a seat. As for the food the breakfast and lunch buffets were not good and that’s all that is available unless you wanted room service which had a limited menu. Room service was hit or miss, I assumed it was plucked off the buffet and brought to our room. Dinner at the Italian, Asian and Brazilian restaurant were delicious and worth waiting all day for.

Resort was beautiful.but The rooms are disgusting. Smells like mold. Bathrooms need major updating. We had rust everywhere. The beds weren’t great. Didn’t smell fresh at all.
I dread coming home at night. It’s not somewhere I want to sleep or shower in. Too bad since the grounds are so well kept.

    Not worth the money though.

Fantastic resort. People entertainment beach food etc. Great. The bed was a bit hard but if you ask at the front desk you can get a pillow top and extra pillows. You can also get scented sheets. My wife loved it. Highly recommend staying here.

What a range of reviews. I have been to many Bahia resorts around the Caribbeans and so far have not been disappointed. Most I would rate as 4 to 4.5. I am posting this as a 3 just to post, will update my review if warranted.
Looking forward to my holiday experience. I fully understand that I may need to wait for our room because we are arriving so early in the day. So point me to the bar and the beach, time to relax.

We spent a week of our vacation in Esmeralda. Wonderful experience!! Beautiful grounds, marvelous beach. The weather was great, the beach area was always kept clean. All Esmeralda buildings are located very close to the beach. Rooms are a bit dated, but kept clean. The resort is huge, but it was very interesting for us to explore it. The only disadvantage was that guests of Esmeralda were not allowed to see the Fantasia part of the resort. WiFi in rooms was super fast. We liked food in this resort both in buffets and in restaurants. The nice feature is that restaurant reservations can be done online! No need to go to the lobby for it.Overall, a very positive experience.

Found a place South to return to! Grounds, food, beach, room, catamaran sailing excellent. Unfortunately, on our floor we had noisy neighbours after midnight a couple of days. Tried to talk to them the day after the party, hoping they will let us sleep, to no result, they continued to party up to 4am or so. Had to use earplugs! Contacted Guest service eventually and they solved the issue. Thank you Modesto!

I don't really know where to begini never had such a bad experience like this before.it was so bad experience that I need to worn others from going there DO NOT please you will regret it..

When we first cheched in the air conditioning was not working in our room so instead of switching our room.. They decided to send someone to fix it! So we had to wait about an hour to have air conditioning (( it was 35 degrees outside)) It worked for the night.. Next morning we had the same issue and also they made us wait about an hour to fix it

The hotel is far away from being 5 stars as well as the rooms Vey old looking furniture and kinda dirtynot luxurious at all!

The swimming pool was dirty most of the times

The beach is nothing like the pictures So dirty full of seaweed and the sand also was dirty..

The food was so terrible to the point where we sometimes skipped meals..

The drinks where bad.. Too sweet and i think they don't even put alcohol in them Because no matter how much we drank we didn't even feel a buzz!

90%of the staff didn't speak English! Which made it really difficult to communicate!

The reception wasn't that friendly or helpful When ever we asked about something that was supposed to be free for us we didn't receive great service But if ask them about any activity or service that you are going to pay for they give you the best service ever!!!

I had staff members who asked me to give them cigarettes!!!

Mosquitoes every where even in the room Some nights we couldn't even sleep..

Last but not least.. Timeshare will stop you every day to try to sell you. Sometimes more than once a day It was very annoying.

Does this sound like a 5 stars hotel!!!

Please don't waste your money and time it's not worth it at all

Best Place On Earth. We would do anything to go there and its such a tragedy that the hurricanes hit there. However, I'm sure that they have handled it. Our family went 1 month ago but it was amazing. If you're doubting about where you should go. My family would 100% recommend it. Very nice staff. Amazing food and great services. You will have the best week of your life there. Thanks to all staff members that made our trip the best that it could get

Our favorite resort ever! Pay for the upgrade, it is completely worth it. The view at the beach is amazing and it is well kept. They give you wonderful dining options with the ability to reserve in advance. This saves you from having to wait in long lines like you would normally have to do anywhere else. The entire resort is well kept. The restrooms, buffets, pool areas, lobby, they are always clean. We can't wait to go back.

This place is awesome. Everything from making sure you get to your room to arranging your departure. These guys and girls work so hard and put their heart and soul into their jobs. It's quite inspiring from seeing the employees work and how they all seem happy all the time. Honestly aside from the beautiful resort, it's really the people there that make the vacation memorable.

I don't understand the people complaining about this place. We simply loved it.

We're real foodies and the a la carte restaurants didn't fail to surprise us. They're really high level and tastefully decorated (reservations are required). During our week's stay, we are at a different restaurant every evening.

Although we were there during peak season, it didn't feel too crowded. The beach is beautiful and the personnel very helpful. Crowd is mainly American, Canadian and to a lesser extent European.

Hi..we just came for there 7/9/17 . A group of 12 people. We had a good time. All the people working there are very nice. The food was good to.That I can say. . Only thing is that it was very quiet, no music by the pool till afternoon, bar's close at 10 @ night and no music. I'm husband and I been to the Punta Cana one before and loved it better. This one was more $$.And I was not very happy .. Didn't get anything of being a pass guests. Like we did before. .😐

Run away from this place!!!! This place is discussing, bad service. I had to wait 30 minutes before someone gave me my cup of coffee that I asked for 3 times. They took out the food at exactly 10:30am and did not care if people in the restaurant were still eating. Restaurant had cockroaches on our breakfast table and crawling on window curtains. We could not get beach towels when we needed them and were told to come back in 30 minutes. When we returned back to get them, we were told they did not wash them yet. People there don’t care about their guests and they are very rude and ignoring what we needed. We will never return back to this place, they suck!

The Hotel installation was really good, the room was great and spacious, food at buffet good, restaurants: Brazilian in Esmeralda mediocre, Italian Good, Japanese in Punta Cana excellent and Mexican in Punta cana the best. Service and staff very friendly and professional. Bad Things: The A/C in the Room did not work properly, I reported several times and never fixed. Russian cockroaches in the room, I reported it several times and they did nothing, they laughed and thought it was a lie.

I mean thisnplacenis not. It's mid range. It was decent but they should not be claiming luxury or even 4 star. The buffets were nothing special and the restaurants you needed to make reservations for didn't impress us either. The beach was real nice and so was the staff

Nice property, but pools close too early and there isn't much as far as evening entertainment. The food isn't good at all. Surprisingly little to no selection of seafood for an oceanfront property.

Another great hotel at the Bahia chain. This is another adults only hotel and it is RIGHT on the beach. Great place and great food. Make sure you eat at the asian restaurant here, they have sushi and all.

Just got back from here yesterday. Didn't think I was the relaxing type but I really enjoyed the trip.

    Pros:
    - wonderful beach, but if you walk around, this was not the cleanest beach.
    - food was decent. Was surprised that I preferred the buffet over the à la carte places.
    - could use almost all facilities belonging to Bahia principe, except buffets
    - people are generally friendly, sometimes overly so.

    Cons:
    - à la carte was disappointing and you need to reserve as soon as you check-in since it is first come first serve.
    - you get significantly better service as you learn how to tip/bribe
    - adults only season is full of really loud, rude and drunk people in the pools, so if we went to the pools, we walked to Fantasia instead.
    - our minibar was not filled everyday (not that it matters since it is all inclusive)
    - they will try to sell you the privilege club membership, and are quite forceful. Beware that it is a timeshare and could cost over 15,000$ for 30 years. Whether you join is up to you. They will say there's a promo and only 100 members could get in on it. There's a counter that says how many left but the counter is reset every morning so don't be fooled. Once again, use your bargaining skills and read all fine prints.
    - we were the only Asian couple there, and some of the Dominicans could be slightly unintentionally racist. Some didn't believe we were from Canada, some made jokes that we awkwardly laughed it off, but I expected so much from people that don't have much contact with Asians. Just don't be alarmed with you are not white. Like I said, unintentional.

    Tips:
    - bring lots of dollar bills, tipping and bribing gets you really far. If you give money to the right person, you could even bypass reservations for restaurants.
    - lots of peddlers on the beach, brush off those bargaining skills. A box of cigar for 100$, you could probably get it for 30$.
    - if ever you are hungry at the beach, take plastic cups from the bars and go to the buffet/snack bar at the beach and grab some food to go. Some people might look at you weird, but most at the beach will look at you with envy when you're the only one with fruits, fries and etc with your beach cocktails.
    - bring travel mugs for your drinks to keep them ice cold and prevent spilling in the pool.
    - check the weather before you leave your room. When it rains in Punta Cana, it pours. You will not be wet, but drenched and freezing. The hotel provides umbrellas so bring it if you need so at least you could get out of where you are.
