Rooms are a little tierd. Beaches better in Cape Verde. Seaweed everywhere.

A family trip of 16!!! Upon arrival we were greeted with smiles and drinks. They also offered to upgrade 3 of our 8 rooms to suites-great right? NOT! The 3 rooms upgraded were robbed! (on the backside of the resort #3200 etc rooms-BEWARE!!) Someone (maybe an inside job/maybe not) broke into one of our suites WHILE ASLEEP and stole several belongings (iphone, iwatch, entire suit case, and money). They unsuccessfully broke into another suite but was startled to see my cousin was asleep on the couch. They did try to pull her suit case out the door but couldn't due to the small space they had. Security is a joke, hotel management was VERY unprofessional and VERY unaccommodating-let me take that back. They did finally agree after much back and forth to wash my family members clothing that she had on, since her luggage was stolen-only to try to charge us $18 at checkout. They understood and spoken English very well until confronted with the break ins. They thought this was a prank among the group and refused to contact the police. Do NOT place any of your belongings in the safe for they are faulty. Staff comes in all kinds of night with a key for whatever reason-so do not leave anything in the room of value PERIOD. Sleep with your purse and other belongings in your bed! Keep your passports with you at all times-clearly they steal your entire luggage!!! The saddest thing about this was that each balcony door was locked-however, even with the locks-you can pull the entire door upward and enter each room!. I am sadden this happened because overall (excluding the mildew floors in the room and hallways, the resort and wait staff were very friendly-oh and Roberto! He was great!

We visited with a group in February 2018. Overall the resort is quite nice, and the rooms have been updated, but there are some issues. It smelled a bit musty. Our shower leaked to the extent where water flooded the bathroom area and went out the front door. We were unable to get anyone to fix this for 7 days and used many of our towels to plug the leak. The temperature in the room is locked to 22C and cannot be adjusted.
The buffet food is quite good and varied, but the restaurants are disappointing, although we had no problem getting in. Steakhouse is the best, I'd skip the others.
Keep in mind this is an adult only resort, and if you are looking for activities, there is very little here, as most clients are over 70.
There is no gym, but you can use the one at the Bavaro next door. The equipment is adequate but poorly maintained and several machines are worn out or don't work at all.
Lastly, the bartenders are friendly but awful! Keep orders very simple!

Great place for senior citizens and that’s it. Two different people (1 worker and 1 guest) told us we were to loud clapping and cheering during the shows. We asked other workers and they said we were fine and to enjoy our vacation. It was hard to be excited after that. There is no music in the swim up bar pool and almost everyone is over the age of 70. We walked to the next hotel over where the families were and there was soooo much more going on. We will never be coming back to this place. It was my birthday and my fiancé and parents tried to get reservations at the steak house (because not all restaurants are open) and they said we couldn’t so we had to go to the buffet again. We were here for 7 days and could only get into a restaurant once.

Went on our honeymoon and had the best time. The staff are fantastic and treat you like royalty. The selection of food was exceptional for all 3 meals of the day.

Excellent resort. Overall experience was great. Only complaint (and this has nothing to do with the resort itself) some of the elderly guests treat the hotel staff rudely. As if they're suppose to be their personal servants. The hotel staff is very friendly, accommodating and kind.

My fiancé booked this trip for us based on the awesome reviews, the resort is very beautiful and the staff were professional and nice. Our two biggest complaints is that when my fiancé was looking at the reviews, he never saw anyone mention the fact that this resort is catered to individuals over the age of 60we're 32 and 31 so we were in complete shock! So with that being said there was no nightlife aspect (with the exception of the nightly live shows) of the resort as the pool closed at 6pm. The other complaint is that for the property to have four different restaurants they were never all opened and the food was not the best. So if you're looking for an extra quiet place to spend your vacation this is it

Overall experience was good. Although the mattresses and pillows could be of better quality. Very friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of good food and drinks. Entertainment was great, except for the Michael Jackson impersonator wanna be. The A/C in our bedroom went and they couldn't fix it, so they moved us to a better room very quickly.

The hotel is nice. Food is great and 95% of the staff are amazing. The room has a few issues, sliding doors are old and very heavy. No lights on the balcony. Balcony furniture a bit naff.
Pools are lovely and the beach is great. Would recommend.

The wait staff was great. Entertainment staff was great! Lunch buffet was not good and it was the only choice.breakfast and dinner buffet was good..only 2 other restaurants were open..Japanese was closed. Do not stay here until after July or laterdoing construction of another wing and they would be working outside your room until as late as 4:30 am!! Very noisy! I would stay again if I knew there would not be any construction going onthe workers started at 7 am and continued until at least 10 pm and as late as 4:30am.

Worst place I have ever stayed, very rude and not helpful. My room was outside of a construction zone working 24 hours. They were jack hammering all night, also we didn't have AC in our room! the maintenence guy come up to fix it and said he fixed it and didn't. We tried to sleep in a room that was 85 degrees all night. I checkout the next day( 5 DAYS EARLY) because they said there was nothing they could do for me! I had to pay another $2000 to stay in a nice place where that treated me better and had a room with AC for me that wasn't outside of construction. Now Riu is saying there not going to refund my money and this was there problem. I would not have left if it had half of the relaxing promises they said in there video. This was the Worst experience I have ever had!!!!!

Do not vacation here!!!!! I promise you I have read several reviews after I had my bad experience and it makes me wish I would have looked before I went on Vacation!!I

These are the pictures from my room that I paid good money to relax. I wish I could post all of my videos I have because no one would want to stay here.

We were not impressed with the staff here! When we arrived we received two double beds not a king bed. Every day we had to ask for bottled water in our room. We did not drink any soda pop or alcohol and they never replaced the bottled water we consumed. We also had to ask for washcloths. They left dirty ones in the shower. Never did they ever clean the shower the entire week. We left at least five dollars ever night for a tip - would not recommend - service did not change. My husband got terribly ill - not sure they use bottled water for their ice/drinks. One glass of water at dinner smelledit was definitely not bottled water. Bring your bottled water with you at all the restaurants. There were seven in our group and five of the seven of us got sick. Those that ate just pasta, mashed potatoes and muffins did not get sick. This is our third Rui - not impressed. The staff stood around often and many did not speak English or acknowledge you with a hello/hola. Our past experiences with Rui Resorts were very clean and staff was friendly and cleaning constantly. Disappointed in the food - same thing every day with a few "specialty" items on the buffet. The Fusion restaurant was the best - we ate there twice, but be prepared to have your meal take a long time. Steakhouse, Japanese and Italian - don't waste your time! The entertainment was the same several night in a row but called it a different name. The beach is beautiful - one of the best beaches we have ever been, but don't plan on collecting sea shell - none are available. The Rui Entertainment day staff was amazing and friendly. They worked very hard to get guests to participate in their activities. The average age was 65 - too Geriatric for us, but found some younger fun people in the bar pool. No volleyball or polo in the pool allowed??? Could you have one of your pools reserved for "fun"?. We heard from several other people who stayed at other resorts in Punta Cana that they also got sick - their sanitation for a "tourist country" is poor - we would not recommend Rui Masao and not willing to go back to Punta Cana! (We did a few excursions and went into town - overall not impressed with this country.) We have been to Mexico, Aruba Costa Rica and several Caribbean Countries/islands.

Excellent resort with everything you could possibly need. Very nice, roomy guest rooms that were very clean. The food choices are plentiful and the food is very good in each. The beach is huge with plenty of space under tall palms or near the water's edge. Lots of loungers all over so no problem finding one all during the day at the beach and one of two pools. There is shopping within steps of the resort. The staff was unbelievable. Very nice and helpful. Always smiling and eager to help. I highly recommend this resort.
