Place was amazing. Offered many choices of food. Right on the beach. Didn't give 5 stars because it was lacking night time entertainment. Had only one show a night that were a little lame. Staff was excellent. Very friendly and helpful. Always smiling.
This has been quite a miserable experience. This hotel has everything it claims to have, and it looks beautiful, but the quality is highly lacking each step of the way.
As silly as it is, electricity here is not guaranteed. That is not a statement anyone should say about a "five star hotel". Working out in the gym one morning, my brother had decided to go to the bathroom, only to come back and tell me that it was so dark he couldn't even see himself in there! A few minutes later, the music came on in the gym along with the lights. We didn't realize they were missing because the windows kept the room lit before. All the women in the room excitedly jumped up and ran to the treadmills, which were now functional because the electricity came back on! Only to be disappointed one minute later when it all shut off again. I came back to my room after we were done and I realized that there was no electricity in my room either I ended up going to the bathroom with an open door because that's the only way I could get light into the restroom (and I now knew how my brother felt) Side note, the weight scale was chained to the side of a wall and looked as marvelous as the rest of the experience.
During one of the evening shows in the evening, staff was setting up a projector. From this spectacle, I can only assume that they had never done this before. The single man that seemed to be in charge tried everything to fit the light into the screen. He placed it on the stage floor, but it was too close to fill the screen. He moved it away from the stage and borrowed a table from the hall, but it was too low to reach the screen. He placed a pillow on top of the table so that he could elevate the projector. At this point about 20 minutes had passed, and I figured I had already seen an amusing enough show for one day, so I don't know how the story ended.
Breakage is also an issue. I understand that things break, but they must also be fixed. They are not fixed. One of the three rooms we rented did not have a working telephone. I informed the front desk, and they said they would send a tech to fix it. The second day it was still not working, so I decided to remind the front office. The same situation happened the third day. The fourth day it was fixed. Similarly, the ice machine has been broken for the past 6 days. The elevator has been broken for the past 3 days. Glass is shattered at the entrance of one of our rooms, and the lamp has not been replaced for 4 days.
Service here is also equally terrible. No one here is happy to see you. I find myself tipping any waiters that actually bring me water. Yes, that's right, water here is a luxury. Especially for dinner, when there's no self service for water, you better call a waiter over and specifically tell them how many glasses of water you need for your table, otherwise don't plan on drinking any.
One of our flights had to change, and there is no flight home on the day of our checkout. When we went to the front desk to ask an extension by one day for two people, we were told that the resort is "almost full" and that they cannot promise anything 3 days in advance. When I asked they why we can't reserve a room for one extra day, since it wasn't full, he said he isn't able to from there, and that we have to wait until the day of to see if no one would place any reservations. I don't understand how this can be possible. He had suggested everything from contacting expedia, or going to A DIFFERENT HOTEL.
We are here for the next 3 days, and I will add or edit things as they occur. So far, terrible.
The only good thing about this place is the beach. Everything else is mediocre at best. The rooms are really weird and offer little to no privacy because the bedroom is connected to the bathroom with no doors. I have been sick every day here because of what I assume is drinking the water they are giving me at the restaurant because I'm not even using the tap water for brushing my teeth which you should not do. The food here is average and has no real excitement to the flavor. The shows at night are strange and tacky like a combination of a family show and nightclub entertainment so it's an awkward middle ground. One good thing though is their bartenders they are so in tune with everyone and make amazing drinks. however their premixed ones like margaritas are terrible. worst margarita I've ever had. Would advise staying at the Iberostar next door.
So overall we had a really enjoyable stay. But there are a few things lacking. There is no beach service available. It stinks to not be able to get food or drink without going to the pool area. The decor is also dated/tacky. Tons of purple and magenta. We were also moved from the adults only Macao resort to this one due to a booking issue. This was not appreciated. So why the 4 stars? The food was actually pretty good. The beach is amazing. The servers were very friendly. With a little work this place could be a lot better.
My wife and I got married here last week. We stayed 8 nights, and it was fantastic. Marcibel was our wedding coordinator. she was outstanding for the almost year of planning. Always got back to us right away and made sure our wedding day was unbelievable. Everyone was so accommodating and very nice. Service was outstanding, entertainment crew was super fun. we will be back, and we highly recommend this place for a beach destination wedding!!!!!! thank you Palace Bavaro!!!!!
The service was good, and we LOVED the employees! Shout out to Norman and Sebastian!!! Also, bottled water was used everywhere, and the food tasted great, but
We had a group of 44 and over half of us had GI issues the entire trip. 2 weeks after being home, some of us still do. Some went off-resort; others did not. I just finished an antibiotic and now am on an anti-parasite. 😔
I would definitely get any of the CDC recommended vaccines (ie, Hep A, Typhoid, etc) if you're planning on going. We didn't, and obviously now, most of us regret not having done so.
WARNING:
The hotel itself is beautiful as well as the rooms and the entertainment is amazing. However, the reason my rating is not 5 stars is because my family and I contracted a stomach virus due to the consumption of contaminated food/water. The best advice I can give is DO NOT drink the water the waiters/waitresses serve you unless it is from a bottle (this applies to ice as well). ONLY drink bottled water and make sure you do not open your mouth while showering to avoid contracting something or when brushing your teeth. Use the bottled water in a cup to rinse your mouth once you've brushed.
Another reason the hotel receives a 3 star rating is the night life. This is a family oriented hotel so that is why there really is no night life after the show. There weren't many college or younger people at the resort so if this is what you're looking for, look elsewhere. If you are a couple or family than you will like this hotel. Again, be careful with water consumption.
It's more like 3.5 stars on US standards for the room and service. But the beach area gorgeous. Don't expect extremely flavorful food but it's fresh.
Drinks are strong liquor is on cheaper side no premium options. Pool and beach side can get little crowded but never had trouble finding loungers.
Specialty restaurants, not so special just that the seating area was nice and most food similar or available in buffet.
I stayed here for a mini vacation. I have mixed feelings, maybe you can help me decide.
On the highs
-The service is excellent, prompt, superb if you will.
-The shows were lovely. You can tell they are passionate about it and put in alot of practice.
- Of course its beautiful
On the flip side
- Some would say they are to nice with service, to the point of being pest.
-All the food looks wonderful but it maybe not be edible to your taste.
*The other resorts might have better food. You have an option to walk or take a cute little open bus ride.
Hope this helped
A great all inclusive resort in the Punta Cana side of DR. The restaurants there were really nice besides the one that offers Asian cuisine. The staff there are very professional and friendly. The buffets are also really good, but it can get tiring after having it three days straight. The excursion concierge host was really friendly and helpful. He helped us plan 2 days of excursions for a fairly good price. This resort is also aligned with many others along the beach shore. You can easier walk over to the other resorts and explore around the shops/small flee markets. Would def recommend.
The hotel looked great the moment you walked in to the lobby. They attend to you very nicely and with a joyful attitude. All bartenders and regular employees were extremely respectful and always greeting us. I will say however that the management is possibly the worse I've ever encountered. Not only is management terrible, there is a lady (whos name starts with the letter A) who takes care of weddings, she has the worse customer service attitude I've ever experienced. This is by far the worse all inclusive hotel I've ever been to. The pool closes at 6 pm which btw is still daylight. The quality of the food was also a one star. The taste of all the food was very poor. The food and water got me extremely sick. The rooms looked great but a little rain and I had a major leak in my room where there was about an inch of water all around and the ceiling the coming apart. When I went to the front desk to inform them about it, the manager stated that he will send someone from facilities management to fix it. The leak was so bad it wasn't repairable and they assigned me another room on the complete opposite side of the hotel. I asked if there was a closer room to my family and they stated that unfortunately all other rooms are dirty. In both rooms, the shower heads were broken. It was raining the day of the wedding, so the lady who coordinated the wedding informed us that we had to have the wedding indoors because she cannot refund us the money for the wedding (which was approximately $3,000). We asked for a manager and she said she is the manager but later says that her manager was on vacation. She said we couldn't get our money back because we signed a contract (that never existed). We asked her for a copy of this "contract" that never existed and she couldn't prove it. I read all of the paper work and nowhere it states that we couldn't get our money back. We had to have the wedding inside a small banquet hall that smelled as if the entire rug was wet and humid or we would've lost all of our money and no wedding. The sports bar smells like a complete ashtray, so if you're a smoker it shouldn't bother. Bad thing is if you want to play pool, you'll be inhaling about a pack of cigarettes plus each pool game cost $3.00. In my sisters room there were 3 live cockroaches. I do not recommend this hotel for anyone.
This definitely isn't a 5 star resort. Hotel common areas are well kept and extremely nice to look at. Rooms are a little outdated but the hotel could've made up for that with service most of the staff doesn't speak English. The pool cards for towels were a joke-I have never been to a resort that took getting a towel for the pool that serious. The food on the resort was your typical resort buffet style food. The Italian restaurant on the resort were the most pleasant employees we encountered. If you are looking for premium alcohol this definitely isn't the place for you. If you are big on service- you won't find it here. The room service staff would answer the phone with "What do you want?" The front desk staff were hustlers and tried to offer an upgrade for CASH only. (Why not take the card on file?) Split the cash is the name of the game. Casino was small but entertaining- make sure you know how to count the black jack dealer considers 22 a push. LOL Beautiful resort but definitely not value for the buck. Beach has a lot of seaweed but extremely beautiful and relaxing. Clearly the Riu Bavarro aren't taking care of their employees because so many are disgruntled and miserable.
Well we just got back from our second vacation at RIU PALACE NAVARRO.
I was very surprise of all the negatives review, we had the choice to go some place else but went right back to this Hotel due to the great service, the clean and the beautiful people the work there. There is nothing you ask for that they don't get for you, the staff, Junior, Elizabeth, Francis to name some are amazing.
The rooms are clean and they keep it very nice and decorated, the facilities are spotless, the food is very good, the night club (no cover charge) but you have to pay for the drinks is AMAZING, the music the people, the serviceis just the final touch to a great vacation, we went twice and stay there until 3 am, we ha so much fun.
I am not sure why the negative reviews, but I can guarantee you that this is a great place to go with your family.
We will be back, we just love this place.
Hotel is absolutely beautiful! I have been there twice. Once for a week in 2016 for vacation and see if I wanted to host my destination wedding there. I decided to have my wedding there in June 2017. This time around we had a bad experience. I brought in over 60 guest to resort. Food lacked and everyone in my group got really ill. AC broke down in resort for over 24 hours. The wedding coordinators are extremely difficult to work with and do not budge for everything. All they want to do it rip people off. Magnolia, Astrid, and Lisbeth seem to not know what they are doing and are not kind to work with. I recommend to look elsewhere for your destination wedding. As well for owners of resort they need to hire a new bunch. I was very dissatisfied with something that cost me a fortune.
I've been here with my parents, maternal grandparents, and my sister, and we had the most wonderful time in there.
We enjoyed swimming in the pool and in the ocean, as well as eating delicious food that I can't resist. We also enjoyed playing games that staff entertainers hosted, such as kayaking at the pool (didn’t get a chance to do it), darts (which I'm bad at it), archery (which I'm good at it), etc.
Every night after dinner, my family and I got entertained with staff entertainers by dancing with them prior to nightly show time.
The best part about my trip is making new friends with people who come from all walks of life and speaking Spanish since I took two levels of Spanish class while at college. :-D
Booked and stayed in the VIP area which was amazing. It was clean and quiet. The service was amazing and there was enough food choices to satisfy anyone. There will always be something I don't like with the food but that is the same with any buffet. We loved to hang out in the VIP pool so if you want to have access to these rooms and areas, you need to make sure you book the right room. Well worth the little extra.
Awful! Phone was stolen within 36 hours of being there. Received no help with trying to resolve the issue. Jerry seemed to be the only honest worker there. Food was horrible. You could not get food anytime you wanted. The lunch buffet didn't open until 1PM. Like what?! All a scam to steal money and personal belongings that we work hard for. Maids came in rooms like 5 times a day which is odd as well. Do not go to riu!
Very poor customer service. Family members and I decided to stay different all inclusive resorts in Punta Cana. While I understand the rules in inclusivity (restaurants, facility, safety, etc.), I merely wanted to visit my sister and mother who was staying at the Riu Bavaro. The security at the gate gave us a hard time even when it was confirmed that I indeed had guests staying at the Riu. The local taxi driver even commented that this does not happen at other resorts (Hard Rock, Breathless, etc.). I finally was able to get in and the manager said that I can only spend time with my family in the lobby because I was staying at another hotel. Needless to say, my family and I left to spend time at my hotel where I was able to spend time with each other. I would not stay at the Riu if someone payed me.
Do NOT GO HERE!!
Brief outline:
1. Service - HORRIBLE - Move like snails - never got breakfast room service - took from 10am - 9pm and COUNTLESS phone calls to have someone refill our beverage fridge - bartenders don't understand English - pool drink service doesn't exist during lunchtime - they give you attitude and lie that you have to wait 30 minutes to get fresh towels at the pool - THEY JUST DONT CARE!
2. THEFT !!! - Left phone and a small bag with our room cards and some money on the balcony table ( beachfront) for about 30 minutes in the morning to go shower - came back and it was gone. Before I left the patio, there were employees walking around raking the sand and we found footprints leading to our balcony and from. Took pictures and insisted on management to gather all their employees that worked that morning and compare shoe prints and they REFUSED!!! They told us that this is not the 1st or 2nd time and basically they have an theft problem within their resort. The supervisor said that they requested surveillance cameras over in those areas; however were denied!!!
3. ROACHES!!! - They are everywhere - in rooms, hallways it was HORRIBLE!
Very lovely clean hotel. Excellent Service and staff. Beautiful gardens and fabulous beach! Had a great time despite the rain!
This place is simply beautiful! The staff is very friendly and helpful without being too in your face. There were just a few times we were approached by people trying to sell excursions, photos or anything else, unlike some other places where you can't walk 10 ft without being interrupted by a sales pitch. Food was delicious and varied. There were live shows every night but they were mostly risqué dancing and not kid friendly. If they had more live music with actual musicians, I would have given 5 stars. I would definitely recommend this place and would definitely go back.
