Power Issues in all 3 of our rooms. No hot water. No Water Pressure. They do not send anyone to fix it despite how many times you ask them to. Finally after 2 days they tell you that you can switch rooms to one thats slightly better. Food was ok for Cuba but the guys at the pasta station roll your eyes when you ask for fresh pasta (which is clearly a service they tell you they provide).

Beach is nice though and the bartenders are great.

Best resort ever!! We love Cuba! Our bungalow was very spacious, clean and modern. Housing and all resort workers were very friendly and helped us with whatever we needed! See you again this summer!

Place is outdated first room ac didn't work. First day we didn't have water or drink in the room. No enough towels for room service. Personnel served small amounts of water and drink's cups are child's size, even though is "all inclusive".For the buffet they serve you small portion of meat (my partner was denied a third piece of meat). I killed a roach in the restaurant bar. Beach is nice and people tried to be nice I think administration is at fault for the Hotel's rules and the poor maintenance. Also, even if the weather is hot men must wear sleeves for dinner and woman cannot show her belly (means no tank tops or beach clothes). I got sick after eating in the restaurant. I really believe is not worth what they charge for it. I paid to extend the check out from 12-4 and they charge for it and later tried to get us out of the room at 3 pm

Very good resort Very clean and very nice staff.My favorite part of this resort is it’s beautiful decoration and style. But it also has a very fair price and has very clean swimming pool. The food was also very good restoruants was better than the buffet but still good.

It was an OK experience, there was a mix up with our reservation and we ended up having to compromise/settle for what was available. Over all it was an enjoyable experience, until we left our swimming suits on the 1st floor balcony of our room to air dry overnight. Waking up to them missing. They were stolen! The hotel gave one of us a free massage to make up for it. Luckily we packed two sets and didn't have to buy new ones in order to continue our stay.

We love Barcelo Solymar. It was our 6th time at this hotel. Love Katerine and Jenny who are servers in the buffet. Super Clean. Close to town. Great entertainment. Lots of new pool and beach chairs. Fun games. Food gets better and better. Loved the roasted chicken legs and always look forward to baked pumpkin. Can't wait to visit again.

The rooms are fantastic, first and foremost, the bed is comfortable and is ONLY reason it's getting stars. The food is decent, but after that it goes downhill. In fact I met 4 other random strangers staying at resort who were also disappointed and wanting to switch to a new resort.

If you love to party and plan to stay on resort for the free drinks and are in your 20's, great this resort is for you. If you actually like friendly people who converse easily and not stuck up - don't go here. Not only was most the staff also not very friendly - who can blame them, they probably are just being rubbed off by the tourists staying there who come across cold. I actually decided to stay at another resort during day as it was way more warm and friendly, and only came back to this one for the comfortable sleep. LOUD and PARTY late hours and does wake you up, but the bed is good.

NOT MUCH KIDS at all, TOO BIG and easy to get lost in and feel very small among size, NO SNACKS during day, between meals, prepare to get really hungry because of this, so carry snacks in hotel with you

There are a lot things that are included such as breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as some bars located all around the place. The beach is amazing and it is close to the hotel, like 5 minutes walking from the rooms. Great service and place overall.

The beautiful beach and the location (walking distance to the town) are the best. Food is good and the acces to two hotel facilities is a bonus. Nice place in general

This hotel is located in a great spot for people who want to go into the town of Varadero. It is only a 5 minute walk, where most other hotels need a bus ride to get you there. The food is just okay so if food is your thing, maybe consider a different hotel. I've stayed here 4 times now and it is more than acceptable for me.

For Cuba, this is dope. Above average, just a bit above lol the food is decent too. Iono why all these stupid white ppl complain about the food. Everything is organic and fresh, better food than most places in Toronto. There's newly renovated rooms too, not just regular ones. And the bungalows are amazing too, old a stinky but you get used to it pretty quick. Great first experience :) love it. Coffee is also the best I've ever had. Makes Starbucks and Tim Hortons seem like the worst coffee int the world. Simple people simple country, no fake ppl here.

Never have I spent such a pitiful vacation in my life. The restoration of this hotel is frightening, we fell ill from the first days.
I think that there is a major problem of maintaining the cold chain in this country, as well as some negligence on the part of the employees in the preparation of food.
The hotel's canteens are regularly invaded by acrid smoke because of the meat and fish that remain indefinitely in the same cooking oil.
It is moreover preferable that these foods are overcooked and not enough which allows them to "sterilize" a little bit
Forget definitively raw vegetables and fishes.
At the end i limited my fooding on tasteless rice for limiting all risk of intoxication.
Luckily they stay their wine (low cost "piquette") to forget all this and To purge the guts
The air conditioning system of the room was very noisy and break down with a big liquid coolant leak during our stay.
The repairman was speedy but should come back a second time for reparation : with embargo they are lacking all mandatory spare parts and the repairman do what they can with shoestrings
It is necessary to insist heavily on changing sheets and especially towels which are not necessarily clean! . There is a general unconcern of lot employees.
even if we are supposed to be in a "holiday-do-not-stress-rhythm" you should often be very patient
yes i know we are in a communist country but i can assure you that they have perfectly understand what is business
No definitively not a nice place to spend your holidays, for the hotel and for cuba in general

The staff was absolutely amazing. My first time in Cuba was well spent every person made sure my friends and I were welcomed properly and it was just honestly an amazing trip. They never showed frustration while assisting you or short temperance. However the food on the resort was terrible aha but definitely not the whole island. The food off the resort was soo good it had amazing quality, very flavorful , and fresh. Although I want to travel to more islands I would without a doubt return to the exact same city at the exact same hotel at barcelo solymar.

This hotel is nowhere near four star, we were staying in bungalows, firs room they gave us was on the ground floor the shower only the shower part worked the tub tap did not work it was broken, then the towels were minimal we only received face towels, one night in the room no hot water then no water, the T.V must be 20 years old. We went to our Sunwing rep to complain the hotel manager Mr. Angel offered us a ocean view room which was on the third floor of the building, the A.C did not work in that room then they showed us a second floor room which was also ocean view the rooms in the building were not to bad but the smell in the elevator was awful. We decided we would rather stay in the bungalows, they gave us a second floor bungalow it was very close to the beach which was nice the room was very run down but at least everything worked but of course the T.V very old and no converter, and you have to beg for the bath towel because they would leave only face towels. It is not the cleanest hotel, this was my seventh time to Cuba and the worst experience ever. The staff were generally friendly and tried to accommodate. We booked Lucky Deals Room, This hotel should not be advertised as a Four star.

Cuba is a great place to visit and I don't want to spoil my experience by complaining about bland buffet food or something trivial. I am going back in two weeks and a family member just came back . She said someone on the plane brought ketchup and someone else brought salad dressing! Really , wow. These same people will tel you how much they love kraft dinner ,which I do ,but come on .do yourself a favour and when someone asks how was the trip don't complain about the food unless you are Gordon Ramsey . It makes you sound like a whiner. Nobody likes being around people like that.

A week on and I'm undecided if I'd go back. The food was beyond edible, but at the same time everything else was fine. The beach is the best I've ever been on, the pool is great and the company I kept was top. But the food was a HUGE problem. As well, there was leaking roofs, nothing to do when it rained and the lack of a clean towel for 2 days was a MASSIVE problem. But over all it wasn't that bad. Recommend it to a coworker you don't really like.

This hotel is very good. We had many tasty options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Staff was very friendly. Room was clean and comfortable, good air conditioner. One exception was the beach, it had some of pieces of tree branches. Anyway If I will come back to Varadero someday I will chose this place for sure.
