We enjoyed our very first stay at holiday inn Sandton.The staff was very friendly.They even helped us when my husband forgot to lock the car.They called us in the middle of the night to come lock the car.Thank you very much for caring for us. We found our car still safe with all our belongings inside.How can i forget the lady who was always singing with a beautiful voice.My husband nicknamed her "Dolly Parton".

A very good and affordable hotel in the heart of Sandton. The rooms are spacious and you have the choice between bathtub and shower :)
As the norm for South African hotels, an electric kettle and few coffee/tea is available in the room for self catering.
TV has main popular channels as usual of hotels. The Breakfast is good and I can say it is better than average.
There is pool and SPA on the premises.

To compare with other hotels in the area, this one and Protea hotel next to it are good in terms of value for money for a business sleep over.

Good value for the price. Good breakfast, but I think the menu for lunch and dinner is limited and doesn't change a lot. With a swimming pool and bar at the penthouse area, the view at the top is nice

Check-In with Jane was easy and all the ladies at the front desk that morning were very pleasant. I arrived early since I was coming from a hotel 5 minutes away. I was happy my room was ready at 11:30. This is a more upscale Holiday Inn. I have gotten used to the Express. It had a nice sitting area in the lobby, a restaurant that served more than breakfast and The Chairman Bar. It was a bonus that it had a shuttle that ran to Mandela Square and the Gautrain Station every hour even though they were only a 15 to 20 minute walk away. My room was spacious and had a good setup. My only complaints were that there were no plugs close to the bed to plug my cell phone up at night, the wifi seemed to be a bit slow for this to be more of a business hotel and every now and then I would catch a faint smell of raw sewage when I ran the water in the sink. There was construction next door so maybe that had something to do with it. When I left I took my own bags down but the bellman quickly came to assist when he saw me with my luggage.

Overall a good hotel. As a construction of a high new building (new hotel?) directly besides the hotel is ongoing the whole day, there is a lot noise recognizable also in the hotel rooms on the opposite side of the hotel. Also the cleaning and maintenance of the building could be further optimized. There is a nice shopping mall nearby. But I only stayed there once and only for one night.

UPDATED: I have dropped a star of my rating due to last night's building site noise issue. I slept on the floor in the bathroom because of the noise. My advice to those needing a sound night's sleep, look elsewhere. Here'with an extract from my email to the Guest Relations Manager, who tried to move me to a different room tonight (and I thank her for trying)

Hi, thanks but as discussed I prefer not to add to the environmental impact of extra laundry and extra cleaning. Thanks for making the room available, if I am forced to take noise-pollution shelter in the bathroom again, I will phone down for extra pillows.

I do however urge your hotel to stress to the building site contractors next door the legalities and the fact that they took a chance last night with their cement-mixing story, until well into the morning hours. They are breaking laws or bi-laws or whatever; also that a guest (me) has threatened to call the police (not that the police care, but I tried). I tried to report them last night, police station and emergency number, but the call queue was long. I took it on good faith on my 9 pm call downstairs that the noise would stop at 11 pm. I was lied to, be it directly or indirectly, and I do not appreciate that.

As mentioned, I am taking Holiday Inn Sandton off my list of possible Sandton Hotels for the foreseeable future as I do not appreciate the way last night's noise incident was handled. I also intend to report as such in my on-line review. Holiday Inn Sandton needs to feel the impact of their decisions and the only way I can do this is to let folks know via on-line review.

REVIEW FROM PREVIOUS STAY: Comfortable room and facilities, friendly staff, they were happy to place me on the quieter side of the building; as a result, I had a good night's rest. Star lost because of some staffing issues in the dinner restaurant, cold breakfast plates and confusion in the breakfast queue. Holiday Inn continues with a Sandton hotel breakfast theme of not making eye contact at the fry counter, not taking orders fast enough and making diners stand around too long waiting for breakfast service while plates of bacon, mushrooms and sausage gets cold. They could also pay more attention to getting coffee to diners faster.

Amazing staff, amazing ambience, amazing conference facilities. The decor is beautiful. Every single staff member at this establishment is passionate about what they do. The rooms are to die for! The service is efficient and extra friendly.

Ideally located in the heart of Sandton within walking distance to Sandton City and Gautrain as well as the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) soon it will be link to the new development across.

Their rooms have all the amenities a seasoned traveler would expect, most of the rooms have stunning views of Sandton.

Holiday Inn also have large conference and meeting facilities.

Good selections of wines, a well stock bar, the food is unpretentious yet fresh and seasonal, what you pay and see on the menu is what you get, ample choice from their a la carte, open plan kitchen.

Highly recommended when looking for a place to stay in Sandton, either for business or leisure.

Breakfast great. Comfortable bed. Showers no mixer, low pressure, plug plucement in room could be improved. Towels bit threadbare. Charged additional for parking on check out. No free parking included. My rewards not linked.

Clean rooms. Inroom WiFi was very slow. Not so sure (refillable) bottled water was fresh. There was still water in the sparkling bottle. Was filled to the brim so not sure whether it was legitimately filled. No seals on bottles. A simple sticker would have done.

With Holiday Inn you know what you're going to get. Its their thing. I got a nice clean room with good linen, everything worked, plus friendly service, decent food at the buffet downstairs and a helpful front desk who went the extra mile helping me. No complaints.

First, why I did not give 5 stars? Gym is very small. Its on the top floor which gives amazing view on the surroundings, but 3 persons inside and its already crowded. Pool next to it is miniature. One can only use it to cool down after sun tanning. Crew lounge although very nice, only have 1 computer available. Sky bar could have more relaxing seeting options.

Now the good stuff.
Food is very good and prices decent. All hotel staff is very nice. Spacious rooms mostly offer exceptional views of the surroundings. Free shuttle buses to train station, mall and other group hotels in the city. Very good selection of TV channels offering good movies, sports, news, cartoons and documentaries. Crew lounge is cozy, has very nice and interesting board games and its open 24/7.
Buffet breakfast is continental with lots of options, fruits and salads. Chicken liver is one of the best I have ever tried. Free high speed internet. Gym is open 24/7. Top floor Sky bar has amazing views (especially during night) and decent pricing.

All in all. I recommended this hotel very much!
