This place was great. A great selection of wild game and a good atmosphere. One thing to beware of though..the hours reported aren't right. The restaurant closes from 3pm to 6pm. Also, you need a reservationring ahead to make one. Iturned up without one, but was seated anyway as it wasn't busy.
Also, something that isn't obviousthe restaurant is part of a larger complex that has a hotel, conference centre, etc.
This is one of my favourite restaurant throughout different countries as I do enjoy differ type of red and white meat. You have massive variety starting from crocodile, chicken, lamp, beef and the list goes on and on.
The service is fantastic, with wonderful people, serving with a smile on their faces
The food is simply out of this world, they really put alot of effort in making these dishes.
For anyone who enjoys meat this will be the place for you and you will not be disappointed.
You can bring kids as well as there is a big playground for kids which you are able to have a clear view of them depending where you are sitted.
Great experience with a classy and unique African themed restaurant. A wide variety of game meats and food to choose from with great side dishes. Waiters come to your table with swords filled with meat and cuts it into pieces right on your table. Choose from Kudu to Springbok to Giraffe or even Crocodile. Buffet style dinner with buffet style pudding. Great family experience or even a unique romantic date idea. Great and friendly staff.
Nice place! Not one I would normally go but good enough for me :).
The staff is super super friendly. It is all you can eat. And they stuff you with all they have! Croc, zebra, chicken anything you can imagine even game meat.
It is huge and fully booked so you have to make reservations. In the center there is a huge grill where the prepare your meat. I really liked the ribs. The crocodile was a new experience that you have to try.
The coffee is really good!
But it is super ridiculous that you cannot pay cash!
In the beginning, they served a lot of food, but after an hour or so we actually felt a bit abandoned, as the waiters were just passing by, not offering us any meat. The waiter serving our table (taking the order etc) was not friendly, and you could almost feel she doesn't like your presence
Apart from that, the place itself is very nice, live music (on Sat only?) is great and at some stage most of the staff joins the signer to sign folk songs, very impressive.
And yes, a proper air conditioning instead of many fans blowing in all directions would help.
Overall, the pros outweigh these few cons, and I will definitely take my friends visiting SA to this place in the future.
If you're not a vegetarian or a vegan you have got to eat there at least once. Selection of game meat varies but there is always plenty on offer. A unique African experience.
This is in no way refined dining, but it's a lot of fun. The premise is a fixed price (other than drinks) for a set starter (soup) and then they just keep bringing different meats and carve them at the table, with a choice of dessert. Pretty good value and the food is good.
Really good place if you want to try all the game meats but food way too salty.. trick to make u drink more and stop earlier
The meat was great with a lot of variety. 5 out of 5 if you're just going there for meat. Service from the waiter was poor. Restaurant was about 75% full , he brought a drink and disappeared. We had to search for him to ask for the bill. They should rather not offer desert at all , it was prison level desert. Cheap ingredients used.
If all you care about is a good piece of meat on a plate , then 5/5 this place is for you. Poor Service and bad desert take away from the overall experience.
Love the restaurant's theme as it is very African and pretty to look at, making it a big tourist attraction. Nice to be able to see the chefs cooking the different meats. Different waiters walk around with different meats - we tasted crocodile, eland, impala, kudu and zebra. There were also normal options such as chicken, pork and beef. Sauces and salads are placed on each table, along with pap and chakalaka and before that soup and bread. It is a lot of food so choose wisely. Our waitress was attentive, but she was new so she wasn't too informative. Luckily other waiters come to the table too. When paying they only take cards, no cash. Yet, our waitress wanted her tip in cash and not by card which made everything quite confusing.
I was in Johannesburg for about 2 months working at Monte Casino. By far one of the best restaurants I ate at was Carnivores. If you’re the adventurist type when it comes to food then this is a must-go-to restaurant. I ate a little or a lot of every type of meat they had to offer and loved it! If the thought of eating medium rare Kudu or Zebra is not for you, don’t worry you don’t have to eat it; they have plenty to offer. Service was good for a full restaurant. I would have liked for the meat to come a little faster but then again I’m a hog!
The reason for a 4/5 rating: All the knifes provided was very blunt, it was difficult to cut the meat.
All the positives: It was a wonderful place and experience! Lovely food. Soup was delicious. I had the Crocodile, Eland, Spirnngbok, Zebra, Impala, Kudu, Chicken and Beef and it was lovely. I liked the theme and the atmosphere and it was very nice! Had a good experience!
Wow what a bad experience. So booked for fathers day. Arrived, then had to wait almost an hour for any type of service. Had three waiters helping us but none of them actually served us on time. Giving a hot plate, the plate actually got cold before I got any food. Worst eating experience this year!
A unique dining experience. All kinds of game meat on offer plus the more common meats like Chicken and Pork and Lamb.
Nice decoration but fair food
It's great for once off experiences and bringing tourists for something totally different, it does get a bit boring after repeat visits
Air-conditioning not working, dirty placemats, chairs filthy, salt and pepper pots disgusting, service nonexistent! Sies man!
Terrible restaurant. Will NEVER go back. Staff DOES NOT CARE. It's like you are another number. We did not even get to the point of ordering food as the place was so filthy. Chairs and tables were last cleaned in 2007. Waiters have dirty clothes, use their hands on food also. Just go someplace else.
