Amazing botanical garden. The centre piece is undoubtedly the impressive waterfall. however this botanical garden has so much more to offer. great for hikes, walks, picnics and other nature centred 1 day events. The place is in good condition and makes for a great visit

These gardens are beautiful and expansive. The restaurant is lovely and has a varied menu with yummy food. There is plenty of place to picnic without feeling crowded. The waterfall and Eagles are definitely the highlight. The walking trails are fairly challenging but manageable and enjoyable. My only complaint is that the bathrooms are not as clean as they could be but the rest of the experience is truly lovely.

Great place for family fun , and a great day to enjoy the outdoors. It’s good for kids as there’s lots of room for them to run. Most of the area is also wheelchair accessible. Lots of shades areas for people to sit and there’s a hiking trail for those more active. The whole area is litter free and well catered with friendly staff who will help you carry your heavy stuff for a small fee. Great views for photographers.

A pretty special place. Litter free. Great atmosphere. Relaxed and everyone can mix comfortably. Go on a Sunday and there's a few stalls too with everything from hats to honey. The waterfall is spectacular -
the eagles were somewhere else when I visited. Quite well signposted with names of plants and rock samples. (Minor criticism - some of the descriptive signs are so sun bleached, you can't read them.)response / report this review -

The garden is one of the last truly well run government institutions to have survived the transition from the old South Africa to the new South Africa. It has if anything improved over the years, well done! There is a wealth of information for those who are interested in the type of plants and where and why they are there. The water fall is a definite draw and has been appropriately preserved while still allowing for close enjoyment of the attraction. The various trails are well maintained and the overall experience is an acceptable balance of commercialism and nature. I would recommend it for anyone interested in African botany or even just a peaceful afternoon in a beautiful garden setting.

Lovely place to take the family for a picnic or just a day out. Beautiful waterfall & tons of space for the kids to run around. All within reach of the urban jungle. Highly recommended!

This is a lovely park for a picnic and a stroll. Lots of shady grassy spaces. The waterfall is a highlight and can be seen from many spaces in the park. If you are picnicking, bring R15 for a porter to help you lug around your picnic stuff.

Beautiful place for a picnic - lots of space, shade, and green grass to lie on the whole day. Also has a hiking trail that's not very popular, but is one of the best I've been on - great views, interesting insects I've never seen before even saw a big tortoise towards the end of our trail. There is an entrance fee though whether you want to hike or picnic or both, I think it's about R45 pp. Also, the trail is not very easy to find or navigate as there are no signs and the map is confusing. Got lost the first time we went there.

Whenever our family is in need of a little quiet time and relaxation, this is our go to place. Whether it's to read a book or have a picnic, we always enjoy our time here. The kids have fun at the play area and the restaurant on site ensures one never goes hungry. Highlight for most is almost always a walk to the waterfall

Entry is R45 p/adult, which I found pricey considering it's a national park and I'm a tax payer. But the gardens are well maintained and they have a jungle gym and activities for children. There is a restaurant on site and the bathrooms are okay. There's a little waterfall and we saw an eagle. If the weather is fine it's a great day out. Mostly picnickers, no dogs or cyclists/joggers.

A beautiful botanical garden with plenty of space for picnicking. I spent a very enjoyable Saturday there with my girlfriend. It was very busy but never felt crowded. We decided to hike up the waterfall and all along the geological trail. It probably took about 2 hours in total to walk. We can't wait to go back!

Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens offers tranquil surroundings for your weekend lazy strolls with your loved ones. If you want to be mesmerized by the beauty of nature, then look no further. The garden is historic and is home to some indigenous plants. The garden tells a beautiful story worth listening to and observing. As you walk on the lush grass, you will be enchanted by the merriment of the birds making music. The place is ideal for people who also need to meditate and be one with nature. There is a restaurant when the stomach begins to growl. The pinnacle, for me, is the Witpoortjie Waterfall set against the hills surrounding the garden. The sound of water hitting against rock is heaven on earth. The one challenge is that the facilities are old and are in need of revamping. The bathrooms need an upgrade. This is definitely a place to visit over and over again.

Lovely place that is conveniently located for most people in Gauteng. Great variety of plant species and really well kept lawns. Loved the walk waysalways lead to something or some part of the gardens that's interesting. Can update some of the signage though

Stunning gardens. It is the perfect place for any occasion, from photo shoots to first dates and nature walks. The park is always clean and safe. They have plenty of activities for kids and have regular band performances on weekends.

Absolutely stunning place to spend the afternoon. A bit noisy though as there was a music show but still pleasant. The waterfall is the best feature, majestic! The gardens are well kept.

One of my favorite places in Johannesburg. I have been visiting the gardens for decades and I'm always glad to have taken the drive out there. And of course a nesting pair of Black Eagles! Lots of events and entertainment with the beautiful Witpoortjie waterfall as a backdrop. A must visit for locals and visitors to Gauteng.

What a beautiful, save and well maintained nature park to enjoy hiking! And as an added bonus, rich of geological history. Take a rest and relax in the picnic area to the sound of the waterfall and lots of birds. Or even organize your wedding, birthday party, kitchen tea or family gathering here!

It was refreshing just to get out of the city and the food at the restaurant is scrumptious and I honestly enjoyed my cappuccino. It's a great place to have picnics with friends and loved ones. Fantastic for hiking and for long walks
