Westgate Dermatology is a phenomenal medical practice that is extremely professional at all times. As someone who had never been to a dermatologist myself I was a little nervous, and wanted a trusting medical professional to help me understand my medical issues. I've now been seen by 2 of the providers in the last two months and both experiences were positive, professional, and provided a great customer service experience from the arrival to the departure. I now highly recommend Westgate to all of my friends, colleagues, and family members since becoming a patient of this practice. All of the staff are extremely friendly, and the providers take the time to discuss your personal needs, while also answering any of your questions or concerns.
As one writer stated, I also want to like this place. Two of my children are seen there and we have been truly pleased with their care. I had my first visit today. When making the appointment, I was clear that I needed an early time to make sure I am seen on time. I begin seeing patients of my own by a certain time and HAVE to be seen when I my appointment is scheduled. I try to get early appointments hoping that providers will not have fallen behind in their schedules so soon in the day. I arrived with completed paper work, as requested, 15 minutes prior to my appointment. I sat and waited. It was getting to the point that I was getting ready to reschedule and leave when the nurse (or medical assistant) brought me back. I do not believe in ignoring issues and I told her I was not happy that we were late. Her service recovery was terrible. Essentially, she told me "sorry" and added "well, we are a dermatology practice." I am not clear what that remark was supposed to clarify. I found it only to make my take on the situation worse. Really? Did she think I did not know what kind of practice it was? It was a bad time for a passive aggressive comment from her. I did want to speak to the practice manager. My provider, Anne Tyson Vance, came back and she was excellent. I was extremely pleased with her exam and professionalism. When we were finished, the office manager came in to talk to me. He never sat down. He stood over me looking down. I explained my frustration. He looked about as uninterested in my situation as is humanly possible. His only comment really was; "All I can say is sorry." Well--I think more than sorry is in order. How about telling me he will look at reasons for lateness and work with staff on them or maybe validate that it can be a problem and that there is an ongoing process in place to make it better. Nope. "All I can say is sorry." Hmmm. As I stated, I really liked the provider and love the treatment my kids have received. The rest of the experience--not so much. It is truly inconsiderate of patients and their time to be off schedule. It is not good practice to take liberties with other people's time. Yes--it is a dermatology practice. And My pcp manages to stay on time. My previous dermatologist at Wake (sorry he moved away) was always prompt. Maybe his was a different kind of dermatology practice.
I really want to like Westgate, because it is walking distance from my house. But Westgate is so process and procedure driven that it hinders the customer experience. They want you to do a consultation for EVERYTHING, even very minor cosmetic procedures, when many local derms can service you in one visit. It takes several visits to get anything done and it's difficult to get the right people coordinated each visit. I have wasted so much time and money with them. I'm sticking with David Derm and Restoration MedSpa!
After surgery my internal stitches starting rising to the surface and poking through my skin. I called the office and was told a nurse would have to call me back. A few hours later she did but I just missed the call. When I called the number back, they didn't know who I was or who had called me and spent 10 minutes passing me from department to department. When they realized there was no one left to pass me off on, they told me to call the Winston office again. When explaining the entire issue to them (for the 5th time), the snarky receptionist told me I had called the wrong number (it was the one they left on my voicemail!!) and when I told her I didn't care what had happened and that I just needed a doctor, she tried to transfer me but didn't mute the phone and I overheard her mocking me to a co-worker. She then sent me over to some unknown persons voicemail. I still have not been able to reach my doctor after multiple calls and messages.
My family, children, and myself have been seeing them for 30+ years. I personally feel they rank the best or one of the best in the state. They know how to test to get the facts instead of guessing, and treat it. Thank you for ranking one of the best at what you do. Rick O. Pulliam
