I recently stayed at the USA Hostel in San Diego and was not a fan. 1. The staff were neither very friendly nor very helpful. I hated asking them anything because of how they would treat you. Ive stayed in hostels all over the world (literally) and this hostel had the most unpleasant staff of any. 2. After my first night’s stay I reported that my bed was broken (broken springs, visible and confirmed by the female manager), they gave me a discount which was fine, but what bothered me was that they didn’t remove the mattress and checked someone into the same bed less than 1hr after I moved bunks. Not cool.
My experience wasn’t all bad though, the facilities were clean (the bathrooms were extremely clean) and the location was great. Unfortunately, the hostel options in SD are pretty limited. Good luck!
Great little hostel with a lot of character! The staff here are super helpful and friendly. Charging points inside the lockers are awesome! It's a great, central location but easy to miss as you walk past. It's directly between 2 restraunts.
Amazing hostel and very nice staff. The place is very beautiful and trendy. Breakfast is way better then in most Hostels. We got fresh OJ, bagels, croissants, cereals, fresh coffee and milk. They even had other stuff and free food. The rooms are tidy and I loved the beds. You have your personal lamp and two USB ports to charge your electronics. It also give you privacy because one portion of the bed is covered. The lockers are big enough for you to store a carry-on bag (but you should be able to put a slightly bigger one) and they have two power jacks inside as well. The location is perfect and you get to go for free to their location on Ocean Beach (just go). Great place to stay in San Diego.
Bathrooms were always super clean!.. The whole place had a really cool vibe, amazing location The free breakfast is a bonus & some nights free dinner is offered. Very international feel! My wife & I loved our stay & the people we met, she met some fellow Brazilians
Clean gender free bathrooms. Comfortable beds. Affordable comparatively. I don't like that you have to make your own bed and then strip it and turn in the bedding to check out. Getting to know the staff was the most interaction I had with anyone. Most guest are kind entitled and don't even ! Make eye contact
This place is great. The Hostel has a very family-like flair and the receptionists were all super friendly and helpful. I totally recommend staying at USA Hostels San Diego Downtown.
This location is deep in downtown San Diego so it's close to pretty much anything you might wanna do in that area. The facilities are great. The building looks and smells a little old when you walk in but the aesthetics are really charming. There's a full breakfast of fruit, bagels, oatmeal in the morning which was so great!! What I appreciated most was how the staff were really friendly and how all guests were respectful of the rules. Overall, would stay here again!
Nice hostel with friendly staff, however a little quiet for my liking. Wasn't much going on on Friday or Saturday night. Love the 7.26pm shots though.
USA hostels is a very nice and accommodating place to stay surfing any trip to San Diego, the location in the heart of the gas lamp district makes it a perfect place to grab a drink and see the nightlife. if you aren't bothered to much by sounds of other people coming in late or a bit of Beyonce blasted at 10 am the place is for you. It also has a functional kitchen and available supplies to make breakfast, which is a great way to travel on a budget. This place is not a hotel, but if you've enjoyed a hostel experience before this place will fit right in.
Best Hostel I've ever been too. Fantastic rooms for a great price, and so conveniently located. Be sure you understand the concept of a hostel before booking a room. I see too many people complaining about not having enough room/having to share rooms and I realize they had no idea what a hostel even was. This is how they are supposed to be, and this one does its job wonderfully
