Good place to stay for budget travelers. The room is clean. The staff is friendly. The bathroom is clean but needs upgrading, but it is quaint by certain standards. The neighborhood is not the best, but not dangerous either. The only problem is the noise. It is next to a busy street and several sirens were heard in the first night. I would recomment ear plugs if you are easily awakened.
We booked a room via hotels dot com and didn't pay attention to the rating. Outside was intriguing but it was not in a good part of town. We did not stay as we weren't in an adventure mode kind of travel. Great architecture on the outside.
You get beyond what you pay for. The neighborhood is sketchy. The customer service is adequate. The Wi-Fi is superb. Good amount of cable channels. Really warm rooms in the winter. Elevator could use maintenance. Comfortable bed. Quiet. Good water pressure. Decent amenities. Clean linens. Inexpensive parking. Upon first sight of the hotel and neighborhood one will definitely think "what am I getting myself into", but upon check in you'll be much pleasantly surprised!
You get what you pay for. This was the cheapest rate I could find on Expedia at such short notice. It is in the city but I feel safe though. There aren’t any phones in the room and it’s hard to find the light switch in the bathroom. I reserved two nights but found my room locked this afternoon because I had to “re check in”. I literally just booked this room to sleep in, so it’s whatever. Also, the smoke alarm battery is dying. This shouldn’t be an issue that needs to be brought up to the front desk.
If I can rate them zero I will I swear this is the worst place I have ever seen in my whole life. The hotel is located in dangerous area and most people who live there are homeless and poor people. The room itself very very bad and the smell too. I'm still wondering why the bathroom has two door? Once I opened the second door I saw another room although I ordered just only one room the other room also has own outside door. Come on really really I was scared !!!!! What is that is it a hotel or what?????? In fact, at that time I found it the cheapest one but NOW I know why it's the cheapest one?? Please look for safe place for yourself and your family. Thanks
Don't let the pictures fool you, even though it's affordable, it's not worth it. The area is not safe. The whole place smells of cigarette, so bad that even after you check out, you'll be smelling like you just smoked a pack. The room was dirty, I mean very dusty. As big as the hotel is, there's just one receptionist and a security guard, that's it. If you need toilet paper or anything else, you'll have to go to the receptionist to get it yourself. You'll also pay for parking per night just so you know. Worst hotel I've ever stayed by a mile and I've stayed in hotels both in Europe and Africa.
Dangerous area, bullet casings on the parking lot, open air drug deals. Only giving one star since they gave us a full refund. People on the street were pointing at us, singling us out.The overlook hotel from "The Shining" would make me feel safer.
Honestly, if you can't find a hotel and ABSOLUTELY NEED lodging for the night, drive to a parking lot in a safer area and sleep in your car. It'll be a nicer, cheaper, safer experience.
For the price I can't really complain. The hotel was in a VERY dodgy area though so if you aren't used to the inner city you'll likely be very uncomfortable. Lots of drugs and hookers being peddled in and around the hotel and the main desk is surrounded by bulletproof glass. I'd give it 2.5/5 simply because I couldn't really ask for more from what I paid and the room was decent albeit missing a couple of odd things. Walked around late at night to find a liquor store with no issues but I probably wouldn't recommend the same to suburban types as you'll stick out like a sore thumb. Overall you're kinda rolling the dice staying here so do with that what you will.
The person at the front desk understandably sat behind glass (the Riviera is in a bad neighborhood) however, she was rude and blunt. It was easy to find our room and parking and the lobby itself has a convenience store, sitting area, pool table, gum and microwave. Nice hardwood flooring, non-smoking rooms smell pleasantly neutral however, smoking floors have some smell to them. My floor also smelled like marijuana one night. The bathroom in my room was very small, the sink had signs of rust in and around it and the drain in the shower did not work properly. Ultimately, it was exactly as I expected it would be aside from the disappointing bathroom.
The place is okay. I came with my family and stayed there for 3 days and two nights. The bathrooms are clean enough. I recommend packing bath slippers though. There are stores around that you can get food. So overall, I've seen better but it was okay.
Rooms facing the street are noisy throughout the day and late into the evening! I was tired enough to sleep like a baby. I love the secured parking lot where you can walk directly into the hotel from there. They have a cafe and didn't get to see the fitness room.
Everything you need for low cost hotel close "historic" downtown. But very strange tenants, and so dangerous outside. Don't go outside.
They give you free towels and soap, you get room service, there's also a store on the first floor so you don't have to go down the street and every fast food store is right up the street. The Riviera hotel is one of the best hotels that I've ever visited.
The neighborhood is very bad with many half dressed people lingering outside the hotel. Inside we were greeted by a exhausted and rude attendant who played around with my ID and talked to the other attendant before actually serving us. Then a prostitute came in begging for her duffle bag that she left there when she was with a John the week before, saying it's all she owns. We felt very unsafe and decided to go to the Hilton by the airport for only 50$ more and it is much better here.
Pros: clean room on 7th floor, off street parking, wifi, cable TV, cheap, close to airport
Cons: You have to pay for gated parking. Hotel is in a shady area, if you're not use to the hood it can be intimidating. Pan handlers in front of hotel. Thin walls and you can hear everything in the hallway.
I'd only recommend this hotel to someone who's parties at night and sleep during the day.
