I stayed here December 18,19, 20th 2017. I wanted to save a few bucks so hoofed it to NYC via NJ transit at Newark Penn Station. Very nice hotel, clean, modern rooms, nice bathrooms, employees were courteous, professional. Still a bit of a hike to NYC. Easy to get to walking distance from station though very quiet and isolated and have to cross a couple of very busy boulevards to get to it. You can see the hotel from Don Pepe's restaurant which is worth going to. The shuttle was fine leaves 24 7 on the half hour. Leaves you at the air train connection which is free and one stop.

The hotel was in really good proximity of restaurants and venues alike that I was attending. The hotel staff was very helpful. I give it 4 stars because I didn't like the parking lot area of the hotel. It is definitely an accident waiting to happen if a driver is not skilled enough to handle their own vehicle in such tight spaces. The TV in our room would not switch from CNN.

There are no separate controls for the temperature in the rooms. When it was too warm in the room, we were told by the staff to open a window. There was also hair (not ours) in the shower. The sheets and pillow cases seemed clean but extremely rough to the touch. The restaurant only served a $45 price fixed dinner on the Friday night we were there. So we sat at the bar and ate appetizers which were mediocre at best. The name BEST WESTERN is not on the front of the hotel and took us a while to actually find as well which seemed very odd

Not a bad hotel. Hotel is older and rooms have an older look. Walls were thin and could hear a lot of noise outside of room. Staff was helpful but not outwardly friendly. Some staff were more friendly than others. Free breakfast was a plus. Free shuttle to Newark Penn Station was nice.

    Great Hotel
The Hotel was very nice from stepping into the the lobby to using the business center. The room was clean and had a very comfortable bed with bright lights over the sink .
The staff were very friendly and helpful. They also had free parking and the parking assistant was also helpful and friendly. The next time we are in that area we will surly stay at the BW Robert Treat Hotel..

Overall this hotel was pleasant. It definitely had its small imperfections. The room needed a little bit of work, however in general it was well kept.

The staff was a definite shining star for this location. They were some of the friendly people I have ever met. Their ability to fluently speak multiple languages also impressed me.

We were in need of a room. Usually the Best Western Plus hotels are in good condition. Not this one. Our room, especially the bathroom was not clean - a brown crusty area in the corner between the tub and sink, and a large piece of plastic also - walls and the door appeared not clean. The whole experience was definitely uncomfortable, but we didn't know where to go (it was early evening in a strange place). The breakfast room was unpleasant, hot, no ventilation, disorganized, snarky staff, not even a container of ice water available, . "Get it out of the sink" was the suggestion. The bright light in this establishment was the reception - Carlton. Young man with a wonderful helpful attitude.

The pros is they allowed us to check in when we arrived at 9:30am. The negative would be the room overwhelmingly smelled of marijuana. When we asked to move we were told there were no other rooms available. We left and when we came back later in the evening it still smelled very strongly of marijuana. We called down to the front desk and they got us another room right away. The other room was clean, the bed comfortable, and it had a nice view. The only negative for that room was the bathroom door did not close. We used the business center and it allowed us to print our cruise documents. The hotel shuttle from the airport and to Penn Station was great.

This hotel was a great place to stay in the heart of Newark. The staff and facilities are all first rate. The people employed here are very competent and caring. They went out of their way to take care of us. We were in a tight spot and they steered us in the right direction.Much appreciated. My wife and I had a very positive experience because of this hotel and will never forget how great it was.

We reserved 2 double beds for 4 people but received 1 king room (no refund was offered). Too much noise from the next and opposite rooms in the middle of first night as the hotel did not control people returning from the wedding party. Both cons led to non-comfortable sleeping and tired look on the following day New York pictures. Room was clean, internet was fast, breakfast was good. Parking people and the man who brought us portable bed were friendly and pleasant.

The hotel was nice as was the room, other than we requested a non smoking room and it clearly smelled smoky. The continental breakfast was one of the best with a wide variety of options. Parking is a little rough so you stay parked and walk. Lots of things to see and do plus lots of restaurant options.

It's excellent here! I understand that Artie from the Newark Club is now in charge and it definitely shows. The food is stellar, the accommodations are spacious and Maize is still an amazing restaurant. Parking is convenient and the building is sparkly clean from top to bottom.

Pros: Walking distance from Newark Penn Station. Free shuttle service to Penn station and airport every half an hour.

Cons: Rude staff, rooms need some renovations.

Comments: I found staff a bit rude the way they talk to you. Breakfast was free but they were always out of something no matter what time you go for breakfast. But my most shocking discovery was that they don't have a first aid kit in place. I mean are you kidding me? Its a pretty big hotel and I needed a band aid and the reception had to scramble for a band aid and they only had one left. So if you need some first aid you are out of luck. Bring your own first aid kit.

Spent one night here to party with friends in town. Had I had to stay even one night more I definitely would have had to abandon ship. For starters, parking is an absolute chaotic mess! Check in took a long time and for no apparent reason. I am not sure if the attendant just didn't know what he was doing or if he was new. The hotel property is obviously dated and in disrepair. This hotel has never underwent renovations of any kind other than perhaps changing out the TVs to flat screen. The room I stayed in, #615, was tiny; my husband and I could not walk through at the same time. Further, the room was uncomfortably warm and the ancient, non-digital thermostat did not allow for temperature manipulation. The bathtub and sink drained slow and the toilet did not flush; you had to lean on the lever until the bowel emptied, and repeated efforts were frequently required. And I don't think there is any truly smoke-free area as the entire place stunk of stale smoke. The tiny bed was actually pretty comfortable, like most hotel beds, but my husband would not get under the covers; when a property is this poorly maintained there is no expectation of housekeeping. Finally, the presence of security throughout the property is both reassuring and off-putting: They're there because they need to be.
