Small but sufficient for a couple of nights in the city center. Convenient access to the Off Broadway Theatre district, river walk, and the Miracle Mile Shopping district.
Most floors have empty water bottles and a fill station in their elevator lobby.
Good security as you need to swipe your room key card before you can enter your floor number in the elevators.
Friendly and efficient lobby staff at check-in.

I would recommend this hotel to people who want to be out and about and see all the sites/attractions Chicago has. Upon check-in we realized how tiny the bedrooms were. We were also initially given the wrong size room, we reserved a queen but given a double. We came in past midnight and were too tired to make a big fuss. We called the front desk and they said they'd check in the morning for something larger. When I heard this I immediately thought they were just brushing us off. But sure enough, at 9 am they called and found us a larger room, a king size bed. The room was still very small but I guess it's to be expected given the location. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The location is top notch. Literally walking distance from everything, no need to rent a car or even call for an Uber. The staff is also very friendly and gave us some great recommendations for lunch and drinks. Even though the rooms are small, the location and staff more than make up for it.

The hotel was perfect for our stay. Right on the river, which made everything to see within walking distance. Staff was great, and the amenities were above average. Highly recommended.

Good location, nice staff, but priced high for the size of the rooms. Our corner suite had a wall that cut deeply into the shower space as well as some damaged panels. There are better options in the area for similar, and sometimes even less, money. Business lounge is decent and there are snacks provided. Workout centre is better than average, although still on the small side. Hotel was very clean.

Nice hotel. Room was clean and updated. Front desk service was really good. Only downside at all was finding a place to park.

I had a very small room in one of the upper floors. Also the stairwells were very tiny. I don't want to be there, when everyone tries to rush out in a case of emergency. The room was very dark and the windows were dirty. One big plus point: The breakfast was excellent. Personally it was the best breakfast I ever had in the US. It was very tasty and the staff members were really cool. Next time I will stay in another hotel and go there only for breakfast.

It's a great location with friendly staff. Our booking could have been better organized. They forgot to set up the extra bed. There was no turn down. Insufficient towels and cups for the number of guests.

Staff really helpful to correct the issues.

It was a lovely hotel facing the river, sadly our room faced a another boring building. It was very clean, very modern, and reasonably comfortable. Parking was not clear on their website, and it turned out you have to use their valet service which is all additional $50. Aside from the parking, they were very accommodating. They have a complimentary luggage storage, so we were able to check out explore the city and then return for our bags and car which saved us the trouble of finding parking downtown. It is in a great location, about a 10 min walk to Millennium Park.

Friendly and excellent service. The hotel is well maintained and spacious. Took my little baby 5 month boy and we were able to manage just fine. Excellent views, beds were comfy, very clean. Restaurant down stairs was also fantastic. Pics are View from our window.

This is a decent hotel on a great location. However we experienced problems with some of the services. AC did not heat above 71. We had a baby and she was cold at night. No hairdryer. Fridge froze the fruits we put in. There was no pillow for our older child. Considering the price and location, it is still a good value because it was clean and safe, and our friends did not experience any problems in another room. It might be helpful to check amenities before settling in so that they can move you to another room from the beginning.

The location is wonderful, we are in the heart of Chicago between the loop and river North and everything had either been within walking distance or a quick cab ride. I must tell you we had an infant with us and after a long day of traveling it was great that they offered us a crib free if charge. I will say the room is tiny, the bathroom does remind me of the size in a cruise ship, but you're in Chicago so you aren't going to get much anywhere for how reasonable the cost of the room is. We were able to have a desk space, queen size bed, refrigerator and microwave, the crib, and a recliner all in there comfortably and room for the baby to play. The staff is great, room was clean, all in all great.

Our stay was pleasant overall. The room was small (expected) but clean. Pillows were quite soft, but our bed was a bit more firm than I would have cared for. Like an old spring mattress with a few sheets thrown over top to cover the hardness. The staff were very helpful and seemed eager to ensure every need was met. Location was awesome - directly on the river across from Trump tower. Magnificent Mile begins right across the river (less than 5 minute walk), Navy Pier is about 20 minutes or less away walking, and Millennium Park is about 15 minutes away. We walked to the Field Museum in about 30 minutes (stopping for pictures and such). Overall the hotel was very nice, but very much a boutique hotel. Then again, that certainly isn't a bad thing. We saved over $60 per night compared to a slightly larger room in the adjacent hotel. Solid 4 (maybe a tad more) stars.

We stayed at River Hotel for my wife's birthday. It was a great experience. All the staff was warm, welcoming, and accommodating. The room was VERY clean and the view of the Chicago River was a wow! It is true that the room was a little on the small size, but we didn't feel cramped or uncomfortable, and anyway, we didn't spend much time in the room except for sleep. Because of the great location, we were able to go out and about and see all the things we wanted.
We live in the Chicago area and have gone Downtown frequently but never noticed this building before. It was interesting finding out the history of this building which is architecturally beautiful and at one brief time was the tallest building in Chicago.
We give it two thumbs up. (One note, remember your hair dryer.)
