The hotel is situated deep in the woods right on the river; Very scenic . Literally walking distance from the historic Middleton place. The only down side is that the rooms are dated and the lodge is quite dirty. And if your not a fan of walking you won't like having to walk to the lake house for your breakfast. (Which is actually much better than most free breakfast)

We love coming to the inn and have been doing so for several years now. The access to the gardens is one of the great perks and going over early in the morning before the crowds come is a must. Fireplaces in every room, which are decorated in an arts and crafts style and are very warm. All in all, we highly recommend this place if you're staying in the Charleston area!

We had a lovely river facing room. The staff has been very friendly. We loved the tub big enough for two! Bed is super comfy and have slept like a rock. I would recommend bringing bug spray as there are LOTS of mosquitoes - which is common for all of the Charleston area. Some bubble bath and a bottle of champagne!

The Inn is wonderful. The people have been very nice and accommodating. We love our room, and being able to open the blinds and see the river in the morning has been very nice. It's been very quiet, and I think that's helped us sleep well. We'll definitely stay here again.

I work in design, and this is an important, influential architectural site. The buildings are beautiful. The detailing, the materials, are all contemporary without being stuffy or cold. But, the buildings are old. The rooms are dated in many ways and there was an unpleasant aging smell that you just had to wait to get used to. The staff were lovely, our room accidentally got cancelled and we're not sure what happened, but they were nice enough to put us in the Ashley River suite for the same price as our original room. Overall, it was totally worth the experience, but an experience we will probably only do this once.

The rooms have the potential to be great, however, the rooms need an update; the shutter windows are halfway functioning, but all the pieces remain so that's a plus, the winding windows are broken and non-functioning, all of the lamps in our room are either about to fall apart or are already doing so. the rooms were clean, but the cracks in the corners of the room, floors, and tiles in the restroom are not. Every staff member we have spoken with has been extremely pleasant, but half of them don't really understand what's going on, it seems. The grounds were well maintained with the exception of the driveways(too many pot holes) There is a little window in the bathroom that can be peered into from the outside of the rooms door and can only be visible when you shut the privacy door to the bathroom (explain the sense that makes) Overall, we had a pretty decent stay. We would like to see some updates because we would love to come back to this beautiful place again. BTW, the bath tubs are huge!

This inn is truly a one of a kind experience. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here and from start to finish we loved every bit of it. From the breath taking scenery to the well kept rooms to the dining it was perfect. The landscape by the Ashley River is outstanding and the way the inn blends with the surroundings is great. We were served well and with a smile. And the price was incredibly reasonable. I couldn't believe how much we were getting for what we paid. The general manager even wrote us a handwritten note thanking us for staying there for our anniversary. It was an unforgettable experience and I would recommend to everyone.

The stay was fine. Our hotel room was clean, simple and spacious. We were next to the lodge which served snack foods and beverages each night from 5-7. We received 1 free alcoholic beverage each night for free. The pool was near us as well. The lake house is where they served the meals. It was really close to the rooms. Small breakfast spread: cereals, muffins, pats with topping options, yogurt and fruit. Along with juice and coffee. You could order additional food but it got pricey fast. We walked around the grounds and did a few hours. When we went the flowers weren't really blooming. We do wish we had stayed one more night due to they were hosting an event the day we were leaving. The room did smell like a fireplace even though we didn't use it. And when we turned on the cold water at the bathroom since, it smelled like rotten eggs. It takes well over 30 min to fill the tub to where it suggests. The towels seemed bigger than normal for hotels/inns. They have umbrellas placed all over the grounds for guests to use. It ended up raining for 24 hours straight so they were handy. Overall it was a nice stay. I don't know that we will stay again just due to the price tag. But once is a good idea! We had a tour guide that was a little older and she seemed I'll and stuck up a bit. But it may be that she has to be that way to prevent guests from disturbing the items in the house museum.

My Wife Of 27 years Graduated from College This June. She is 52 years old so we decided back in April & made RESERVATIONS to stay here for a graduation present. We went to check in today, June 2nd and they had no room for us! No phone call, no emailnothing!!! Not only did they not apologize but cussed us & called the law after we had left. The place is a dump & the the service is horrible. The Female Manager on Duty was the rudest, most evil "woman" I had ever met. The Horse Stables looked horrendous & the 1 horse we saw was abused & starving! Never stay here unless you are in to abuse, cruelty & rudeness!!!

Beautiful site and surrounding area. The pool, hammocks, outside seating, and rooms offer plenty of opportunities to relax while taking in the surroundings. The free admittance to the historic plantation and local highlights as well as the other amenities and games that the lodge offers give one plenty to do. My partner and I had a great time.

Middleton is simply an amazing place. No, it's not for everybody, but for those who enjoy peace, natural beauty, and a distinct lack of crowds, it's heaven! My wife and I have spent 3 consecutive Anniversaries there and plan to do another this year. Each time has been wonderful, though last time our mattress was really shot and needed to be replaced. I phoned the desk and shortly thereafter the mattress was changed. It wasn't new, but it was an improvement over what we had previously. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. If you enjoy a good nature walk or long hike, this place is the BEST! Also, if you like outdoor photography, there's a great picture around every corner! We LOVE this place and can't wait to go back!

The staff have been friendly and the food at the lodge's reception is great. The inn designed by W. G. Clark is just delightful. Then the short walk over to the gardens at Middleton is incredible, I highly recommend a sunrise walk. I will be back.
