I’ve tried to get help for my partner from here. He has a point of contact that took 2 months to get back to us. It took 3 reach outs get someone to call back to get scheduled for the white cane/mobility training which even that was brief and not much. They don’t have life the skill classes, they said it was because of covid and that they would be starting it up again soon, it’s now been going on 4 months. Also no word about counseling either, when you go from having full sight to shadows it can be very depressing. This organization has not been anything I thought it would be. I’m trying to find other resources however it’s proving to be difficult as I am also his 100% caregiver and work a full time job. San Antonio, in general is not low vision friendly
What a blessing to have this institution which provides amazing opportunity for the visually impaired community. I was inspired by their commitment to keep going in life even with their limitations. God bless you 🙏
My mother is elderly and blind from glaucoma. She also suffered a stroke and has stroke-related dementia. We have had several visits from staff from the Senior Program assess her home and install tactile dots on devices to make things easier to operate. Staff was also kind enough to provide, at no charge, lipped plates, microwave bowls, and, best of all, a talking timepiece.
Most recently, post-COVID, staff has maintained contact to ensure that my mother’s needs are met in terms of assistance for the blind. Leah, in particular, has been very attentive to my mother’s needs.
Thank you, San Antonio Lighthouse!
I started here through a temp agency which is called express. When I first got to the Base Supply center (Fort Hood) my managers were excellent I had heard things about them being quick to try to fire a temp but I never thought I’d experience it myself . After I got done with express BSC pretty much bought me out of my contract with express so I could start working for them and get in the San Antonio light house pay roll. After three months you qualify for benefits and PTO . The new management fired me literally a week before my PTO and benefits could kick in and literally told me that’s why I was being let go and that he would’ve never hired me
Don't be fooled by a great mission; there's people in leadership positions that have no business having the responsibilities that they do. A VP level employee constantly bad-mouths former employees after they are long gone to anyone she can and the CEO is oblivious to it (or it's encouraged); either way, you've been warned. Plenty of other companies with great missions that won't defecate on your name after you leave. ZERO stars.
