Vintage, gorgeous, smaller type hotel for Chicago. Great service. Attentive employees. From breakfast to dinner and cocktails. Affordable and delicious.

Attended a professional event there. The valet was great but upon getting inside the sign for where I needed to go was small and I passed by it the first time not realizing it was there. The desk staff were the only staff in sight and they were busy helping others. One of the elevators was down (which is fine, there was a sign they were renovating/updating) but the alternate elevators were really not very nice and let you off in what seemed like a broom closet I'd rather have just waited for the one good elevator to get out on my floor in an actual hallway.

Parking nearby to save on valet, lobby and restaurant look great and gives a nice warm welcome. Rooms are that of a typical downtown city vibe. Small, low and full of expensive purchases inside. Bathroom was a bit meh with its old school toilet taken from a 7-11 and tub not expected for a hotel rated as highly. Great service and would stay again, maybe go for the deluxe room next time instead.

From the perspective of a first-time Chicago visitor, this place was pretty great. It's clean, well-maintained, and reasonably affordable. It's a couple blocks from the L which will take you downtown. It's a slight jog over to the lake, which has access under the highway to a running trail. It is also a moderate walk (just being honest) or short Uber to some really popular restaurants and shopping. The concierge was great, there's a bar on the first floor that serves GOOD coffee in the morning (no, not complimentary). A good time was had by all.

This was a great location for a weekend trip to Chicago. Nice area for walking. Friendly staff. The pump room bar was a nice landing spot after a long drive. Lots of people hanging around and chatting. The room was great and quiet. Valet parking deals with your car.

I was in town for the Chicago marathon. The Ambassador is positioned in an attractive area North of downtown with access to numerous transit options. The lobby had an interesting decor: modern amenities juxtaposed with classic architecture.

Disappointed. Reviews were good and stars showed it was a nice hotel. The restaurant is closed, which was one of the reasons we picked going here not one mention of “sorry our restaurant is closed.. here are some other places around here”. The room was decent sized. The bathroom was smaller and the shower small. Someone who is taller or even a bit larger would be uncomfortable. found that the shower curtain (cloth curtain) was sticking to me as I washed (gross)! Also, our bathroom had a sewer smell. If we kept the door closed it was manageable. Pillows were small and asked for one extra which never shows up. Only two body towels, which would be fine if normal sized. The towels were small. The hotel is charming as it’s an older building and the area of town is nice. I would not call it a luxury hotel. Loved the bell hops- they were very nice and even chatted with us as we waited for a ride. Overall, it wasn’t an awful stay just wouldn’t go back.

Lovely hotel, just a block off Lake Shore Drive, and 4 blocks North of the Miracle Mile or Rush Street entertainment, a very convenient location. Room are well layed out with large window, large closet, decent bathroom. Comfotable and clean. Modern design. Easy check in and great value. Even invited to a wine event on Tuesday night. Very nice, would stay again.

What a great place! The area of the location (Gold Coast) is so nice, clean, and safe! Given our first visit to Chicago, we were impressed. You can walk to all the popular places in 20-30 min. The room in the hotel was small but enjoyable. The inside is glamorous and very welcoming. Overnight parking is around $60 a night so beware!

Hip hotel in the grand Gold Coast area of Chicago. Great location. Stylish. The walls were perhaps a little thin for a hotel of this caliber. The check-in was a little chaotic as well, forcing us and about 30 other guests to hang out in the lobby for 30 minutes before a room was ready. Would expect slightly more in that regard for the price. These are why it is not a 5 star candidate.

The people/staff here are top notch. Everyone is friendly, caring, and very hospitable. Our room, a deluxe king, is more than enough for us as we are spending most of our time exploring the city.
There are some quirky decorations, and modernistic design choices - but if you're not over-the-top stuck on decor, this is a pretty great place to stay.
The location is convenient - we have been able to walk most anywhere.response / report this review -

The staff and ambiance of Public Chicago were excellent. The room was clean and inviting. Be prepared to spend a little extra coin for parking over night and stopping at the Pump Room. Overnight parking is $67. Other spots can be found slightly further away for MUCH less. Cocktails at the Pump Room a a bit on the pricey side as well. A glass of Jack Daniels on the rocks will run you about $15. In terms of room for improvement, I would recommend better pillows and mattresses. The pillows were down, offering no support and the mattress was rather firm. Over all good experience, but 3 Stars because of the lower quality sleeping conditions.

Nestled into the Chicago suburb just north of downtown, it's quiet and only a few moments walk to the waterfront and lakeside roadway. It's also a brief walk to Hash House A-Go-Go which is my favorite part about visiting Chicago. The hotel lobby and restaurant/bar are so well appointed with superb fixtures and seating. It smells and looks and feels great. Rooms are so comfortable too. I did upgrade to a nicer one with living room when I was here. Staff were phenomenal and helped me get roses brought in for my date, as well as arranged for delivery of the gift I had ordered for her birthday. The gift ended up getting delayed by US customs but they still took delivery and called me to tell me it had arrived and was ready for my lady to pick up. This is the hotel you want to stay at for sure. It's not cheap but the value is there and if you're kind and ask ahead of time (or sometimes at the desk), they will surely upgrade your room.

PUBLIC Chicago is tucked away in a very residential area of the Gold Coast, which makes it unique for a Chicago hotel. While quiet, the location is just a couple of blocks from some of the area's best restaurants and shopping. The rooms here are small and are relatively basic, but the restaurant, coffee bar and shared spaces in the hotel are excellent. We enjoyed drinks at the bar as well as dinner in The Pump Room restaurant. The service was great, and the food was delicious. Highly recommend this hotel as an alternative to those in the River North and Streeterville areas of Chicago.
