Such a beautiful park. The scenery seems unreal. There are little lizards everywhere and colorful wildflowers. We ended up going twice during a week-long visit in Texas because we enjoyed it so much. Make sure to be prepared for the trip there!

Good places to spend a couple of days camping or for a day trip from Austin. If you plan to camp it's best to have a reservation, improved camping is usually full and the staff here have always been super nice so if anything comes up they will be happy to help.
On a side note, they are currently "improving" some of the sites closest to the river so if your are a regular and have a favorite spot it may not be available. From what I saw on my last trip they were installing stone walls and cleaning out brush, which sadly makes these spaces less private.

This part has great hiking and the Pedernales River is fresh and clear. Wasn't too crowded even though we went on a holiday. The people were diverse and friendly which is always appreciated in Central Texas.

The falls - a great outdoor gymboree for kids, and an impressive nature spot for adults. It's possible to slowly walk the major spot back and forth during a couple of hours. Please mind the boulder surface, walk it with a great cautious, especially by kids and elderly. The swimming area is a river valley with spectacular old dry trees alongside the shallow rocky stream, and mixed sandy and grassy river banks. Upper park hills are a topical TX low forest. The accessibility path is limited to the scenic overlook towards the falls. Challenging for dogs. Toddlers would enjoy playing in the riverside sand.

I've been to State parks in a few states. Texas state parks is far above them. Texas state parks have the best trails, best campsites, and knowledgeable staff.
Pedernales state park is one of my favorites. There are many trails, (not all are marked as well as I would prefer). There campsites are large area and the restrooms with showers are very nice.
Pedernales state park is far from city lights, yet within about 20 miles to Johnson City and Dripping Springs.
In the summer the falls are very nice to watch after a recent rain.
This state park has trails, camping, swimming in the river and lots of space to enjoy

One of my favorite places and old stomping grounds. Beautiful. Campgrounds are always clean and well managed by camp hosts and rangers. Most camp sites nicely spaced with shade. Love Pedernales Falls SP. Fyi - half of this popular campground closed for improvements right now, reservations should be made way in advance, esp for weekends.

Great park. Water was a little low but kids still had a great time. Went on a Sunday morning and was not busy at all. Hit a few small hiking trails with the kids then off to swim. Spent about 5 hours there and did not see many people at all.

Beautiful park! We enjoyed observing the birds and butterflies in the butterfly garden with bird blinds. The hike to the falls is steep, but well worth it. It's a short hike to the swimming area of the river, but the water is clear and refreshing, and if you sit still the little fish will swim around you.

I went on a Saturday morning and i was surprised at how few people there were nut it definitely filled up in the afternoon. I hiked on the juniper ridge trail. It was amazing. It is on a ridge so it is even terrain and it was covered by trees away from the sun. You could hear the warblers the whole time and the gulch formations were cool. Jones Spring was calming and the stone house and stone wall were intriguing. The swimming was alright. If you like trail running or biking. this is the place to go.

We stayed only one night at Pedernales Falls State Park in 6/2017 so I can’t write a long review. Bathrooms were reasonably clean and the showers were nice. There was no AT&T phone service. Campsites were large and spaced far apart enough for some privacy.

The builders of the park apparently didn’t like to put parking lots near the attractions so you have to trek a bit to get where you want to go. Make sure you have everything you need from your car so you don’t have to make more than one trip. The trail from the parking lot to the swimming area is somewhat steep and switches back a few times until you get to a long set of uneven stairs -99 in all. At the bottom it’s just a short walk to the river. In the summer the sand can get hot. The river is somewhat clear and cool; it does have a little bit of a current to it.
The trail to the lookout over the falls is not very steep. Once there you will have to descend a lot of uneven stairs to get down to the falls. The opposite bank is private property so park visitors are not allowed there. Over all it was a nice state park. I intend to go back soon and spend more time there.

Nice park, good hiking trails but not really long. I love that you can bring pets, perfect to spend a day or camp. Recommend going early in the summer in case they close due to high traffic.

This is one of the best hiking spots ever and one not to be missed if you are considering a visit. You can't swim in this area but there is a swim hole close by to take a swim. Only 45 minutes from San Antonio and also 45 minutes from Austin. Such a beautiful place.

I normally love this park. Unfortunately, it seems the State police have taken to openly patrolling the park. At one point an officer was apparently watching our campsite in the dark, without announcing his presence, during which time a female friend had changed clothing. His approach toward us was unnervingly from the direction in which she had been changing. Again the park and its staff have been great, but there are armed creepers in those woods- protect yourselves.

We have been meaning to make it out to this park for a long time and we finally made it. I can see why this park is always so full and busy. We got there early and asked where we should go and the park ranger told us that they close the falls proper early as they are so popular and they fill up. We headed there and greatly enjoyed crawling all over the rocks and seeing the beautiful falls. We also appreciated that the dogs were welcome on all the trails at the park.
