Food was excellent, and we had an awesome server. She was one of the best servers I'd had anywhere Until she saw me holding hands with my dinner. We are both men.

I saw her approaching the table with a smile, notice we were holding hands and the smile immediately dropped. She then began to totally ignore us. She was super friendly with the table next to us in the same manner she had been with us previously.

When she refilled our water glasses, I said thank you so much. She didn't make eye contact, didn't say " you're welcome." She just turned to the other table and started smoking and laughing.

First time I'd ever been treated that way for holding hands. I'm surprised that a server in a restaurant in DC would have that reaction.

Again, food was excellent, and the server was greatat first.

We had dinner with our teenage daughter. She was very excited about the huge nutcrackers at the entrance. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The food was tasty but not exquisite. I give it a 4 because I cannot give a 4.5 I do not suggest the clam chowder - much chowder not much clam. Steak is a bit tough but tasty. Salad was good. I suggest the place

We were in the back bar area. Bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable. Great beer selection. Ordered oysters during their happy hour for great prices. Nice selection as well. Would definitely come back when in town. Location if there bar is also very nice. Walked from our hotel which was about a half mile away. Great time.

my review is more like a 4.5. I was not expecting anything other than try a local restaurant that was very lively. To my surprise, the food I ordered was quite delicious. I had the scallops on barley risotto, and boy! was that good!!!!! I had a salad with pear quince to add some freshness to my entre choice and it was perfect (not overwhelming amounts of dressing, acidity was perfect, crispiness and the pear chunks were delightful) Nice wine to complement the dish, and in no time I was extremely happy with the outcome of my choice for the night. Loved the atmosphere, and loved the fact that it has the gas lamps with the tumult of people dining in a frenzy, yet you can hear what your partner/friend/other person is telling you from the other side of the table. Highly recommend this restaurant. Oh! I almost forgot, the service was great!!!:)

I enjoyed a great steak. It was over cooked then my desire, not the juicy bites I enjoy. I think they error on the well side. The sauce on the New York strip was enjoyable. The place was busy on a Thursday night. To avoid the 1.5 hour wait, I was able to sit at the bar.

I enjoyed several beers. The bartender was helpful. Atmosphere was mixed with business and casual attire, me being casual.

Most excellent surprise in downtown DC. Oldest tavern in the city.

The decor is nicely appointed with brass rails, comfortable tables and an exquisite bar areas.

Oysters are a must try on any visit. Friendly, courteous service and reasonable pricing for food and drink.

Excellent dessert offerings as well.

Excellent breakfast! The building is old (like 1880's era) and has been well maintained with lots of character. The staff is friendly and courteous. On display is an thanksgiving menu from 1910. Perfect location to visit places in D.C. such as the memorials and Smithsonian museums. It's also about 2 blocks from that white house.

One of the oldest restaurant in DC, and said to be visited by Teddy Roosevelt this restaurant is a DC classic. I bring friends, business meetings, and even groups of 10+. Everyone gets a dish they adore whether a burger, steak, fish, oysters, chicken, or a cocktail suggested by the staff. Tip: for dinner of a party more than 2 call and make a reservation. Also, the front area is a little loud if anyone in your group of hard of hearing so when you call ask to be seated in the atrium by the fountain. It’s a beautiful, quiet extension to the restaurant where it’s easier to talk. -V

Amazing restaurant! Make sure to book a reservation with a large party but there were some stools open at the bar to order. I went there during happy hour and got half off oysters and shrimp cocktail. My main entree was delicious and the peanut butter pie was so good. A bit pricey but well worth it if you are visiting from out of town.

We absolutely loved the place and our waiter. All the meals were gorgeous, everything was served in time. Out waitress was very professional and friendly. You should definitely try oysters. Especially with their 50% off during happy hour it is an absolutely awesome deal. Prices are also moderate.

One of my favorite bars in DC. Sean, the bartender , is my favorite. He always takes care of us and keeps it light with charm and wit. Food is always amazing. I've never had anything bad there. You will not be disappointed! I hope if I ever move outside of DC, there will be an "Old Ebbitt standard" restaurant/bar near me.

This was a really nice upscale place. My son and I was referred here by one of the local officers while visiting the White House. It was very busy and we had to wait a good hour to be seated. Because of how crowded it gets, they set up seating in the lobby of the conjoined office building. That was interesting. But the ambiance was actually nice. The food was delicious! Will definitely visit again.

Unlike our atrocious breakfast yesterday morning at the Radiator, this culinary experience stood out as perfect.

Fabian, our server was attentive, enthusiastic and right on it.

Coffee was delicious, kept warmed by our excellent server.

I had the Eggs Chesapeake with two lump crab meat cakes, delightful hollandaise sauce and perfectly poached eggs accompanied by home fries done right. Steve had some sort of healthy choice omelet made with whole eggs versus egg whites (his request) and it came with turkey sausage, home fries and wonderful toast, he also had a side of corn beef hash. All food items were of exceptional quality, absolutely delicious and presentation was attractive.

Ambience was apropos and comfortable, service was incredibly timely, food and plates were warm.

Lovely in all regards. Highly recommend and would return for any meal expecting equal perfection.

A friend recommended Old Ebbitt Grill to us. Since we were going to be nearby after touring the White House, I made a reservation for lunch on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 via the Open Table app. I'm glad I made the reservation, because even at 1:30 in the afternoon, the place was packed.

Fortunately, we didn't have too long of a wait before we were seated. The lunch menu is quite varied, and the portions are large. If you leave hungry, it's your own fault. My husband got the Reuben, and I had the grilled chicken sandwich. I honestly didn't think I was going to be able to eat it all!

The service is attentive without hovering. The restaurant is quite a place, with interesting art and decor. We thoroughly enjoyed eating here, and will definitely go back if we're ever in DC again.

The only place I recommend to people in DC. If you see a bunch of people in tank tops and flip flops don't worry, the place is surprisingly large and you'll hopefully be sat elsewhere away from their sweaty all day in the sun bodies. If you yourself are there in your tank top and flip flops. Well, welcome. Get the double crab cakes and don't worry you'll get an excellent seat. But in the future, know that people around you eating lunch and dinner at Old Ebbitt make decisions that affect your life. Look presentable. Don't have a backwards red hat covering your purple hair when you walk in (or in general) the crab cakes are the best I've had in my life. Mimosas are fresh orange juice squeeze by a guy in the back. Pastrami and French dip sandwiches are spectacular as is the stuff ravioli. But if you like Crab cakes. These are the best in the world. Very meaty, not full of filler.
