Great food in a small space. The retro feel of the diner is complimented by awesome food. We got in just before the lunch rush and avoided a wait by sitting at the bar. You have to try the biscuits, they're baked fresh and are soft and flaky. There are a limited number of tables so expect a wait for breakfast and lunch.

Excellent Breakfast options all day long. Lunch and dinner specials too. Coffee is superb. Pie and pastries taste homemade. Staff and chefs are always friendly. We live in Portage but make a point of eating here when it fits our schedule. Try eating here and you'll be a fan too!

An amazing diner and extremely welcoming. I've brought every family member that's come to town to this place. It has a warm character, with excellent staff and a great menu. Anyone travelling through should definitely stop here. It's location has a lot of history as well.

Have you been here? If not, go NOW. Seriously, this is a fantastic dining experience! Old school diner motif serving tasty breakfast, lunch or dinner. For dessert+coffee or a full meal you'll not be disappointed. This place is doing it RIGHT. In a city filled with restaurant options I return here over and over again. Staff provides fast, friendly, moderately priced fare. Complete with milkshakes or malts and a lengthy vegan menu - you just can't go wrong. Beware waiting Sunday a.m. and arrive early (or late)!

I've only ever been here for breakfast, brunch and dessert. The atmosphere is wonderful. It is a full diner experience in an converter 50s style gas station. Don't let the diner motif deter you, though. The breakfast menu is excellent, as is their coffee and their pies. They sell whole pies and also by the slice. To go along with their 50s diner aura, they also have malts and shakes. They have a full lunch and dinner menu as well. While I've only ever eaten breakfast there, I can only assume their lunch and dinner food is excellent as well. The parking lot is small and the diner would honestly be a bit challenging to access with a wheelchair. Definitely family friendly, though. It has always been busy when I've been there, particularly on weekend mornings and before UW football games, so build in time for a 20-30 minute wait at peak times. They do not take reservations, but as long as you build in the time, it is worth the wait!

A staple on the east side. Everything I've ever ordered here has been delicious! Their breakfast is top notch, and the burgers are great also. Their is usually a line on weekends, but not so much during the week. Place is kept clean. Friendly service

Great place to go back in time and order classic dishes at. The staff is great, the food is great, and its location is on a main bus-line. Though ever since the late 90s, the diner has been getting quite full, and sometimes even has a waiting period. Do consider this if desiring to eat during the summer on hot days.

i never review places, but i just had to say something about this restaurant. what an EPIC find!! i became vegan back in may and it's really hard to find places to eat out where we live. my mom and i drove about 40 minutes to come here and it was completely worth it. the atmosphere and staff were very friendly, let alone there was a ton of different culture throughout the place. the food was amazing and had my non-vegan mother drooling over what i ordered. definitely recommend and can't wait to come back! prices were awesome too and ill be eating all day from one dish😂 extremely pleased.

Best. Breakfast. Ever! Me and my boyfriend always try to make it a point to try new places in the Madison area for food, yet this is one place we keep coming back too, time and time again! The food is excellent! Customer service is top notch, they source most of their ingredients locally, alot organic.
Its a quaint little diner and it's an absolute must if your visiting the Madison area! If you like the old school chocolate malts that come in the metal cups and tulip containers, this is the place to be! They also have a delicious array of bakery goodies plus various ice cream flavors if your just looking for a sugar snack. Parking isn't great. It's small. And since this is a VERY popular place to eat, more than likely you'll be waiting in line for awhile, but don't get discouraged, it's well worth the wait!!

I almost regret finding this place while visiting Wisconsin because now I know what I'm missing. Oh my goodness, hands down the best vegan breakfast I've ever had. Their vegan menu is impressive! Not just one or two things but an entire menu. I got the hash that also comes with the tofu scramble. Everything was so flavorful and so good that I had to just order lunch to go for later.
The atmosphere is a charming diner. The service was helpful and kind.
I don't know if I'll be making my way back to Madison, but if I ever do I know where I'm eating.

Was taken here by a friend who has severe food allergies. Blue Plate has the best menu I've ever seen that caters to both carnivores and vegetarians, and are VERY good to people with extreme allergies. They have combos there I have never seen anywhere else. And the fact that you they have the music set at a perfect level where you can either listen to it or talk without having to scream across the table is a major plus.

    We WILL be back.

The service is always great here. I would recommend going in the evening, as it's not as busy as it is in the mornings. We went on a Friday evening and there was no wait. The food is incredible. I ordered the sweet potato hash and it was amazing! I've also had the turkey platter and it's better than Thanksgiving turkey. They also have a wonderful vegan menu.

I've lived in Madison since infancy, but the first meal I ever ate here was at Monty's. I grew up down just around the corner, and used to go every Sunday for breakfast. The staff would see us coming and have the bagel and cream cheese that I always wanted ready by the time we sat down. At the age of 4, I asked for a job application. I never did work there, but I still stop in for any meal when the opportunity presents itself. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food is good, and the prices reasonable. Especially good for breakfast or brunch.

Great simple food. Got a table immediately. They were turning tables quickly, but in no way hurried is. Good was great. Normal American dinner food. The desert were varied and amazing. Wait staff was helpful and friendly. Will now be one off my frequent stops.

My bride and I enjoyed date night here last night. What a wonderful meal! The seating was spacious and ambiance lovely. The wine by the glass list was both reasonable and generous with an Italian emphasis. The warm olives and bread proved to be a great starter. Try any of the pasta dishes.
