My wife and I just toured this plantation. We loved the gardens, especially the huge oak trees covered in Spanish Moss. We took the tram tour (we saw an alligator) and we also took the home tour. The original plantation home burned down a long time ago, so the replacement home we toured really doesn't look much like a plantation on the inside or on the outside. Overall we had an enjoyable visit at the Magnolia Plantation.

Stunning grounds, had no idea swamps could be this pretty. Also, loved seeing alligators, turtles and other wildlife found around the swamp. Not necessary to pay admission if you just want to explore outdoor, only needed if you want to explore indoor areas and/or receive a guided tour.

Beautiful scenery. We attended a wedding and rehearsal here and it couldn't have been more fun. Perfect address for the kids to run around. Lots of parking. Easy access on Hwy 61. Would recommend this venue to anyone.

The grounds on this plantation are pretty, in an open and natural way that you might expect of a state or city park. It is not worth $20 admission just to walk around certain parts of the plantation. We bought a nature train tour (which is actually on a tram). The guide was entertaining and knowledgeable and took time to point out wildlife. Guided tours are available separately for the house, slave cabins, or to explore the swamp area by foot. I mistakenly assumed that we could tour these areas on our own. The whole experience did not feel plantation-like at all. It was a little better than an expensive stroll in the park.

This stop was so much more than we hoped for. It is so big, so gorgeous and so full of life in the sounds and the movements you hear all around you. We saw a VERY large spider weaving a web, and even that was beautiful. The history that lives in the trees and the paths is amazing, and the bridges and structures they put in create unreal backdrops. We got incredible photos and videos all throughout, especially since it borders the water. They have bike trails as well as walking trails, and options to be driven throughout on tours for anyone not looking to spend the day walking. There is so much to do for those who can entertain themselves on sight seeing and history, we spent the whole day here and wished we had more time. The tranquility was worth the price and more.

It's kinda beautiful, here. A peaceful morning walk, and enough to explore that it is DEFINITELY worth your time, if you go online and seek out their coupon, DOUBLY so.
The animal area is unmatched. Where else is your kid gonna get licked by a deer, stand one inch away from a banana spider, or see fifty wonderful creatures for a few clams? Go for it!response / report this review -

Beautiful place to visit. The house tour was good. Guides knew their stuff. Be sure you visit the history rooms in the basement for lots of photos, news clippings and other items of the past era.
The gift shop covered almost the entire basement of the home. Just ok.
We took the tram tour which rode by all the other tour stops. Saw one small alligator pretty close. Another huge one in the distance. Then walking near the white bridge, saw a 3rd one sunning itself near a marble statue that I intended to take a picture of. Captured both in one photo.
All in all, Magnolia was well worth the $$.
Oh, forgot to mention the Spanish moss on lots of trees!response / report this review -

What a wonderful place to spend the day at. I wish we had more time, you really could spend an entire day here visiting the different parts. We did the general tour, the slave tour and the home tour. I would skip the home tour if I could only do a few as each tour is a separate charge. That makes it expensive to go there but it is very nice and done very well. I would love to go back someday and check out their animals and the swamp tour.
The gardens are gorgeous and worth a stroll. I highly recommend the slave tour, they have four cabins there all staged for different decades. Sadly it seems it is the least popular of the tours but because of low turnout we got a private tour inside each cabin and had great conversation with our guide. If you make it all the way out to Magnolia plantation it would be a real shame to skip learning about the slaves that made it all possible.response / report this review -

Loved being in this beautiful setting. Exploring the grounds on foot, tram, and boat allowed us to view the gardens from different perspectives and really immerse ourselves in both the history and the beauty of this magical place. I would recommend visiting the plantation. I did it with my 17 month old daughter in tow, she had a blast and became quite the walker during her visit.

If you are an out of town tourist or new to the area, you will definitely be in awe visiting this breathtaking destination. If you are a Charleston, Savannah, or low country local it may be a little less impressive as you're surrounded by the natural beauty of the azaleas and mossy oaks on a regular basis. Either way, it's a stunning place and worth the trip for any and all visitors. Especially great for anyone who loves taking photos:) My 8 year old son enjoyed the gift shop (of course), the historical buildings, and especially loved the small garden maze. So it is great for all ages!

My wife and I enjoyed or visit. We took advantage of all of the tours and enjoyed all of them. Si on the boat tour was one of my favorite. If you have small kids he is great with them. He really takes time to get to know the folks on his boat. Get to see some birds and gators.

Well worth the $15 to walk around the grounds. It was beautiful with tons of places for gorgeous pictures! The petting zoo was our favorite though- the animals were very friendly and a deer kept trying to lick my husband 😂 The staff was also very nice. Joy in the history room was very helpful and kind. You have to pay extra for the tours of the house etc. but the walking tour through the gardens was great for us.

Went here for the first time for mothers day. Loved it! Great day spent outdoors and they have so many extra things to partake in. Beautifully managed. Wish the cafe offered better tasting food, but you can pack a lunch and they serve wine, so it makes up for it :)

Loved it! Best tours are the house , nature tram and boat tour! Saw lots of gators and herring and other native birds! Food prices are a little crazy so at least bring your own snacks and bottled water. They want $2/ bottle . I still loved it! They have an actual peacock that walks around the peacock cafe!! Thank goodness it's not called the gator cafe! Highly recommend!!

It was just okay. I expected some more historical information.
The map is useless. There are a bunch of numbered locations but what do the numbers mean? No idea.
The house tour was rushed and basic. Our guide, Chuck, was a bit rude and seemed distracted. I understand that it's not a great place for small children but he could have a more pleasant approach. No need to stop talking, roll eyes and mumble. Glad it wasn't directed at me. He was also annoyed that the previous tour was in his way so he made faces and comments and even skipped a room.response / report this review
