The hotel has amenities and essentials needed for guests with basic furniture. If you get a room here, keep in mind that the sink might be outside the bathroom. The hotel is next to the Metro rail and is only 2 stops from the convention center.

If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around
Small place with great character. Had corner room which was nice but had windows on 2 sides (nice view of little Italy!) But no blackout curtain. Felt like I had to turn off lights before getting changed at night otherwise everyone looking up could see me.response / report this review -

Terrible hotel. It was 100+ degrees in October and you can not change the temperature to cool down the room. They control it at the front desk. The person they sent up to my room to check the AC had trouble understanding English. She could not answer any of my questions. Went the lobby to talk to the front desk personnel. The front desk told me that they can not change the temperature (something about a rule). Ended up sweating the entire night in my room (very uncomfortable). Will never stay at this location again. Update: Go instead to the Porto Vista Hotel - It is one street further into Little Italy, a 3.5 star hotel, about the same price for a lot more room, valet for $5 more then La Pensione's parking, friendlier staff, and Air Conditioning (that you can control). This is where I will stay for future trips to San Diego.

Hi there people
The bathroom door locked on itself but don't worry they have a sure fire solution. Please see the "pin" as this operates as the ONLY mechanism to open these bathrooms for the entire hotel. I was assured by the evening staff that I needed to bring this back to the front desk as soon as possible. Also the bathroom looks a little moldy. Unfortunately, within the first hour of being here the staff has been pretty unprofessional about the situation. Maybe they can redeem themselves but don't bet on it. Room is small as other people have mentioned. Hope this helps!response / report this review -

Nice hotel in Little Italy with close access to great restaurants and the harbor. Rooms are small but clean and nice. Parking is much cheaper than surrounding hotels

La Pensione is a 3-star hotel that exceeds expectations. The hotel is like a modern travelers hotel in Europe. The layout is essentially a 4-floor square with a central courtyard. A few rooms face inwards, but most face out to different views of San Diego. The two best corner rooms have a full view of Little Italy, but some face the harbor or the airport. The cheapest rooms are small, but highly functional. Our room had a refrigerator, which we have not seen in some more expensive hotels in San Diego. We liked the marble type of tile in the bathroom, the windows that could be opened, and the comfortable bed.
They entire hotel was clean.
The courtyard was charming, with a fountain and tables with small fire pits in the middle. It was a relaxing place to snack on the free danish and coffee for breakfast from the cafe. There were also stylish modern chairs in the hallways on each floor. Some were outside, which were like sitting on balcony, which the rooms did not have.
A travel company posted on Google Maps a picture of rooftop pool, which does not exist. This actually was a picture from another hotel in San Diego that is more expensive. La Pensione does not have a pool. It does have a limited parking garage that has a reasonable per night fee for guests. It does not have any other fees, like a resort fee.
It is in the middle of Little Italy with great restaurants and bars and a few Italian groceries, so you have more selection of food places to walk than some resorts in the metro area. Also, the neighborhood feels safe, so my wife was happy to go out for a wslk by herself in the morning while locals were walking their dogs.
Over-all, La Pensione is a great place to stay if you are looking for an affordable hotel in San Diego and do not need a pool, private balcony, a spacious room with a lounge chair, or a resort fee.response / report this review -

Amazing location! Little Italy is my favorite part of San Diego and you can walk to the ballast point tasting room (a must). Very happy with my stay!

You are paying for the view so I hope it's worth it. The rooms are just rooms, nothing special. Pay for parking and it's tiny and difficult to maneuver. Cost is high for so little. The two things you get are views and location. Plan wisely if you decide to stay here. On a positive note, it is a nicer hotel and has accommodating staff.

This boutique hotel is so charming and located right in the heart of Little Italy. It made it so nice to stroll through the neighborhood and explore the restaurants. I've stayed there two times and both experiences were wonderful.

Just stayed a week at this amazing hotel. EVERYONE was friendly and was there to make sure our stay was memorable. The food was fantastic. The nightly lobby entertainment was great. The pool was perfectly heated. The golf course was exceptional. But I think the best was the nightly chocolate covered oreos as part of the turndown service.

I stayed here twice in February for business, and both times, I had a great stay.
The staff was more than attentive and the rooms are superb and very clean. Staff seemed to be acutely aware I was in town for business and catered to me as such.
Everyone is very helpful and even if they did not know the answer, they would work on finding out for me, which made my stay that much more amazing.response / report this review -

I was not very happy. There is no food in the hotel. You have to go to the nearest place in the town for food. There was no clock in the room. The mattresses were in bad shape. The shower had black tile floor and walls with no light in that area. Would not stay there again. The fresh cake and coffee, for breakfast, came from a coffee house that didn't open till 7.

Receptionists were awesome and friendly any time of day. Free coffee and pastries each morning. Wonderful views. Location really doesn't get any better for those who are new to San Diego. Affordable for the area, and definitely worth the money. Little Italy is awesome!
