Victoria was so nice and personable. Howard Johnson was a very nice place to stay. We are going to make a few more trips to Michigan and we've decided without a doubt to stay at Howard Johnson. I can't stress enough how professional Victoria is. She is a genuine great person whom I hold with high regard and look forward to seeing her again. She made our stay more pleasant with how polite she was and her smile and willingness to help us in anyway. She went above and beyond.
This hotel is located very close to Detroit international airport. The room was clean and there was no bad odor as in some other hotel rooms I have experienced. Public transportation is easily accessible. The McDonald's nearby was closed for repair.
Certainly not worth $59-$70/night. I booked 2 nights, went to work (after first night's stay) and came back to a locked room that wasn't even cleanthen staff told me there was some confusion and they were about to take my belongings out of the room because the front desk did not communicate with housekeeping that I was there for 2 nights!!! The only apology I received was from the very nice and accommodating housekeeping staff individual who, together, with myself, helped me clean my room after all that confusion. No tub mats, littlest TV's you've ever seen and the smallest fitness room (3 machines). Not to mention it's quite noisy with thin walls and floor/ceilings, the I94 expressway traffic, and lots of night traffic. I would be happier had I not paid $60+/night here! It's more like a $39-$45/night motel.
The lobby looked dirty. There was a couch in the lobby that looked like it belonged in a dumpster. Pillows were so filthy. I got to my room, lifted the blankets and there was a filthy washcloth in between the bed and nightstand. The mattress was stained really bad. I asked for another room, and they moved us with no problem. We get to the room and the television didn't work. Smh The hotel clerk switched out the TV for us in a timely manner. He was apologetic and very friendly. The rooms were cheap, so I guess I got what I paid for.
Horrible hotel. I stayed here for over the course of 4 months for work. Could definitely be a bit cleaner. The "fitness center", "contenential breakfast" and "laundry room" are a joke! Don't believe it. But worst than the facility is the manager Robert omg this man You complain about something and they say you have to speak to the manager but he's NEVER available. And be careful they have repeatedly given out the same room keys to different guests. Luckily for me, I no longer stay with them. Whew!
WiFi wasn't the greatest but room was good for one night. Breakfast was what you'd expect it to be for free. Tv had a line through the centre of it but it still worked otherwise. Bathroom was really small. Hotel is good for one night.
DO NOT USE: They left me at the airport for an hour and stopped answering my phone calls so I had to pay a shuttle to get back to THEIR hotel so I could get my car. Then the contact after it was just as terrible.
So I finally called in hopes to speak to someone and tell them why this whole situation has been so frustrating and I spoke with the rudest my unprofessional customer service rep. She starts by saying "Okay I see you were offered a 25% discount and you did not want that, then we offered you 3000 Wyndham Points and you didn't want that, so what do you want?"
So I said "I want someone who can understand my frustration after getting home several days later because of Hurricane and then being left in at an airport for an hour while the hotel stopped answering my phone calls, I would like a sincere apology that is not just an excuse, I would like them to take ownership.
She says"Ok Jeremy I am sorry that it got delayed but there is sometimes traffic and delays that make it hard to get to you on time."
So I finally said "Ok that was rude and not sincere"
So she said " Well then how would Jeremy want an apology?"
It went back and forth and I told her I do not want your point I do not want your discounts all I wanted was a sincere apology. Then she gave another sarcastic reply and said anything else I can help you with. And I asked for her name and she hung up.
So I hope you like this long detailed message because this is going to be your facebook, google and yelp review.
This motel was extremely run down. The staff was nice, but the room was horrid. The chair was several stained, as well as the carpets (I wore my shoes the entire time). The toilet paper holder was ripped off the wall, so my paper was sitting on the tank. There were coffee splatters on the walls, as well as cobwebs and cherry pits from a previous guest on the floor. The carpeting was stained and overall the fixtures were dusty. The a/C was obnoxiously loud, waking me up every time it turned on. The walls were paper thin, I got abut 3 hours of sleep during my stay. The shuttle to and from the airport was 45-60 minute wait (it's literally a mile from the airport). The breakfast buffet was minimal.
No frills hotel, but friendly staff and fair cost. Rooms are usually clean, and air conditioning works good. Very basic breakfast in the morning, and 24 hour airport shuttle. This hotel is great for cheap accommodations near the Detroit airport.
There is no option for zero star otherwise they could have earned that too:
Room 236 is a smoking room. If you get this then don't accept it. Very strong smoke smell. But the front desk will not accept it.
It looks like they are paying people for writing good reviews here.
Few lights not working, room not all clean. My money wasted and so my night.
The hotel does seem safe but it isn't much more than a cheap motel. We stayed in one of the updates rooms. The bed was not comfortable, there was a lot of hair in the bathtub and the entire room could have been cleaned better. We made a reservation for $62 a night which was cancelled and no email was sent or call was made. When we arrived we had to pay a higher rate of $79.99 because our room was given away. It was very inconvenient and absolutely not worth $80 a night.
Get location. Quiet considering it's next to the airport. Feels safe. Rooms are nice for the price range. Staff is super friendly and accommodating.
I was very happy with our experience staying here. Friendly staff. Shuttle driver was very helpful, especially with my 90 year old grandmother and helping her into/out of the shuttle and to the bench after dropping off at airport. The hotel was a great value for the price. I will definitely stay there again when flying out of Metro.
Not exactly a "nice" place. But its good for a cheap stay and good parking options for the airport. Don't expect a 5 star experience but it's not bad. Worth the save in money when you combine the stay with parking.
