Old vintage hotel. Very historic. If you can ask for one of the movie star suites. Cool place to stay in down town.

I love this hotel! It has so much character and charm. I’m obsessed. If you’re complaining that the room is dated I really don’t understand what you expected staying at a vintage hotel. It’s clean and the staff is so nice :)

Hotel San Carlos is my favorite place to stay in Phoenix. My husband and I have recently stayed there again, and loved it even more this time around. It is so beautiful, and there is a lot of history. It is like an amazing trip in time. And it is perfectly located in the heart of Phoenix, close to great restaurants (Cornish Pasty Co across the street) and concert venues (the Van Buren!) The beds/pillows/bathrobes/the decor - everything is great. The gym too. It was too hot to swim in the pool, but hopefully next time. We got upgraded to the beautiful Mae West suite, it was incredible! Special thanks to Angela, Noah and David at the front desk for such a warm welcome! Highly recommend this gem!

The hotel San Carlos is a wonderful nostalgic peaceful place to stay in a crazy downtown Phoenix I would give it 5 Stars except for the lack of parking. The front desk and the hotel staff were excellent and friendly. I will stay there again in a heartbeat.

My husband and I love to stay at the Hotel San Carlos. The staff are very professional and courteous. The rooms are comfortable and also have great rates. The hotel is full of interesting artifacts and the whole feel of this place is just very nostalgic for me. I will always think of this beautiful hotel when I think of downtown Phoenix. This year I wasn't able to valet my car, which caused a minor issue. But overall I enjoyed my visit, like I always have. I hope to return here and create more memories with my husband.

The hotel describes itself as a boutique hotel. That would be a stretch. It says that each of its rooms has been individually decorated. That, too, would be a stretch as the room that I occupied, while relatively comfortable, was not decorated in any stylish way. The hotel invites you experience the courtesies of a gentler era. This would be the grossest exaggeration. The only coffee is the sad one cup variety in the room; there is no room service; no coffee service in the lobby. There is one drink machine that is not stocked regularly, at least,not with Diet Coke. It was sad because the bones are there for a boutique hotel; just not the effort.

We are newlywed and the front desk upgraded our room. Say! We stayed here for 2 nights. Staffs are so nice and accommodation to our needs. Safe location with great views. Close to famous restaurants and piers. We loved staying at this hotel but parking was very pricey. Hotel valet parking was 50 dollars per day and other parking garages nearby the hotel was 37.We are definitely coming back but without a rental car

How to begin. Hotel San Carlos was historic, which apparently is code for dirty. The bathrooms were incredibly small and the shower tile was cracked with masking tape on the floor. We also booked as a group online, and when we checked out, the hotel had changed all of our nightly rates to $20-$30 per night higher than what we had booked at. They claimed they could not adjust the rates post our stay because we had booked via a "third party" aka Expedia. Will NEVER stay here again.

Interesting place, good Location. But the reviews are correct--this is a low amenity hotel. Parking is difficult. And you really hear everything. E.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. Worth it for a night, but for longer, look elsewhere.

I got to stay on the top floor and the view of downtown Phoenix was great. You can tell it's an older hotel but it was great to stay someplace with some history. The Irish pub right next door was a great place to have a bite to eat and a drink. If you like places with history and not just your fancy hotels this is the perfect place.
