I went there to play golf. The place looks nice. When I got my car from the valet one of my tires was flat with a nail in it. I had no flat when I got there: I have a BMW with sensor on each tire. When I made a complaint, "while on the premises" as their parking contract claims otherwise they will not even take the complaint, The Security manager called me and said "you can't prove anything" and told me to go pound sand! He invented himself a tire expert and proceeded to give me a whole bunch of BS about tires. I asked for their insurance information and he refused. All he could do was insult me and call me a liar!!! So I called the hotel and asked to talk to the hotel manager about the situation, the then manager did not return my call instead he had the night clerk call me and ask what's my problem. They could not have been bigger D****ks
This resort is one of our go to places for a staycation! Staff is wonderful, the spa is fantastic and the dining both at the resort and locally is fabulous! We stayed in a suite with a king bedroom and a connected double queen bed room which effectively gave us a two bedroom suite!
This is probably the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Everything is end to end perfect. The location is outstanding since it feels very privat, the service and everyone working here truly enjoys what they are doing and take great care of guest and the resort itself is so well maintained and designed that it’s hard to leave again.
I love grabbing a bite and a drink just at the bar here. The lobster tacos here are bomb and Johnny makes the best drinks ever. A true mixologist, I always have him create some special concoction for me. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the service is always 5 star.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were a good size and cleaned often. The bathroom was nice minus the shower. Not enough water and pressure. The pool and hot tub were nice. The gym was very well equipped with equipment. Overall very nice place.
Very ornate architecture and decoration everywhere you look. Beautiful buildings and grounds. Helpful and friendly staff. Great service. Food was quite good depending on what you order. Service for lunch was good but slow. Not the place to get a quick meal, but definitely perfect for sitting outside with a nice view and taking your time with your meal. Feels very exclusive due to the gated drive leading up to the main entrance. The relaxation pool is adults only and beautifully situated away from children and noise. Huge hot tub with luxury seating. Very quiet and relaxing throughout.
This place is mind blowing! Every little detail is prefect from the robes to the chocolates on the pillows! Pool areas are awesome, guest services/staff is so kind and helpful, rooms are magical!

From the moment you pull in, the guest service is second-to-none. You can tell the Fairmont truly appreciates their guests and cares about their experience. Every detail was spectacular and we were impressed with every interaction and every amenity provided. We would definitely look forward to another stay here for a special occasion or rewarding getaway in the future.
The decor in the rooms are ornate and appropriate for the 5 star resort. You can tell it is not the goal to have the most modern look in our room, and that is more than okay with us! We can go to a much more accessible hotel chain for sterile clean lines and boring muted colors. The Fairmont Grand Del Mar has a very special look and feel in the rooms and all around, which is the experience you look for in a 5 star resort.
Great service and amazing property. Has a lot of amenities and is a 10 min drive to the beach. Did not realize it was 30 min from airport. Staff was helpful and friendly. Rooms were ornate and spacious.
This Hotel/Spa is a bit of Paradise in San Diego. It's a real 5 Star Hotel nestled back in the hills with a beautiful Golf Course and Stables. The rooms are beautifully furnished and the staff, the staff are amazing. The bathrooms have a shower and soaking tub. Your room has robes and slippers and quality bath supplies to allow you to turn your bath into a little Spa if you wish. In the evening your turn down service supplies you with shoe polish bags that you hand on your door that are polished and returned to you the next evening. The Fairmont Employees are warm and welcoming and detailed oriented. I really can't say enough about the entire staff. This is our 4th visit here during the Holidays and every single visit has been fantastic. From the room, the pools (strongly recommend a dip in the warm salt water pool) the nice little hiking trail and the exercise room you have plenty to do.
Spent a few days over NYE at this magnificent hotel, it was outstanding. Service is off the scale courteous, friendly and efficient. As it was raining, we had car service door to door from hotel to our NYE dinner at Addisons. Dinner was truly spectacular, the superb seven (probably nine!) course tasting menu was beautiful to look at as well as eat! The wine cellar also superb. We also took in the spa which again did not disappoint in any way, excellent professional therapists. All in all, as serious world travellers, we found this hotel a truly five star resort.
“Lovely Hotel in Need of Refreshing”
We stayed here for three nights after spending Christmas in LA with our daughters. It is easy to get to, and we didn't have any trouble getting back and forth to downtown San Diego. We enjoyed sitting by the fireplace in the bar at the end of the day after touring the area. It is an elegant and very old school resort hotel, but it is leaning toward shabby chic. It really could use some updating - the decor is easily twenty years old. Lots of brass in the bathroom, heavy fabrics and wallpaper. The staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful. Aside from the dated decor, our room was very comfortable. The highlight of our visit was dinner at Addison. Overall, a pleasant and relaxing stay.
Stayed December 2016, traveled as a couple
The property is gorgeous. I was attending a work holiday party in the hole ballroom and was pleased with the facility, the staff, and the kitchen. The buffet fed about ~500 and the menu was solid: beef, chicken, and duck with great sides like maple yams and roasted Brussels sprouts. The only food misses of the evening were the lobster bisque which wasn't terribly rich and the damp salad croutons. On the other hand, Cypress Hill played a great set and the open bar was well stocked. Overall, I would recommend the banquet facilities for any event.
