We stayed here on a Tuesday night after spending the day at Biltmore. We had our Boxer dog with us. They were very accommodating! We were able to get dinner and breakfast room service from their restaurant, very convenient, reasonably priced, and good! We stayed in a queen room which has a small couch, chair and tables. The hotel lobby is beautiful and the staff was very friendly. We will stay again!
The overall facility was pleasant, however the rooms left a bit to be desired. The bathrooms were especially small and the overall decor needs some maintenance and refreshing. Should you be staying during the winter months, I recommend being on the property by sundown. The grounds crew has difficulty ensuring the entrances are properly salted to prevent black ice. Unless you have experience driving on hills and have the appropriate vehicle, you will be risking your safety by attempting to get to the hotel.
I was told I wouldn’t be charged until checkout. They have charged my card three separate times so far and can’t refund the money for days. I requested a room on the top floor but was placed on the second floor, now they are moving us to the first floor. No one will take accountability here. I’d switch to another place but I’ve already paid for this one and can’t checkout until Sunday.
Nice hotel. Room was nice and beds comfortable. Crazy walk to room with only elevator in wing we weren't on. Elevator smelled of cigarettes though. Staff was friendly. Wish we could've stayed longer.
Conference only: I did not stay in a room, but attended a three day conference. Very clean conference area. The food was great! (Steak was competitive with any steakhouse I've been to). Very good breakfast and snacks throughout this day. Very nice restrooms as well.
For a conference, this is a really nice venue. Rooms were clean and convenient to meeting areas. Recreational facilities are also very nice and well kept. Although I did not eat, the food served looked like it was pretty high quality. For down time, there are lovely paths for walking or even biking. There are also numerous tennis courts, golf, and other outdoors activities on site. I can't say this would be my first choice if I were traveling for vacation. The location is slightly inconvent and while clean and updated, the actual rooms have an old school motel feel thanks to the balcony setup. However, if golf or tennis is your thing, it would probably be worth overlooking those annoyances.
I just had my wedding two weeks ago and booked this place for my guests. I wish I could say this was the easiest part of my wedding weekend, but in fact was the most difficult. I wish I could give zero stars.
Reservations:
The contact person I was assigned was curt and generally unhelpful. I continuously would get calls from guests stating that rooms were not available or were being charged double the contracted price. I would have to call and ensure that the reservations line had not overcharged my guests.
Wedding weekend:
I had multiple people check in 30 minutes to one hour past the check in time of 4pm, which created scheduling problems for wedding related events that evening. We were assured that when we booked rooms 6 months in advance (under contract mind you) that we would have adjoining rooms for my wife and her family. At check in we were told that a guest overstayed; instead of moving that guest to another room, my wife the bride to be, was bumped to a different room on a different wing away from her family.
The staff:
A few of the front desk staff members were helpful but there were more that seemed inconvenienced by even the slightest inquiries. The restaurant staff was atrocious. A server was short and rude with my mother for ordering off the menu instead of using the buffet because they were short staffed. A similar episode occurred with my wife's sister when she tried to get food for my wife on the day of the wedding.
The rooms despite being "newly renovated" were dingy and showed the age of the facility with exposed wires and a lamp missing from one guest's room.
Lastly, I addressed all of these issues with the General Manager of the hotel on the morning following my wedding (instead of spending time with my family) and his general tone and disposition was defensive and stand offish. His response insinuated that somehow the events and poor service were exaggerated. At no time did he apologize or express any real empathy for the situation. Instead, I was told that "we have 6-8 weddings a week" as somehow this is an excuse for terrible service. Ultimately, I was comped a room for the weekend but I had to specifically ask for this and at no point was anything offered.
Overall, the service and attitude of this place is such that they care more about getting people in and making their money than they do about providing hospitality. Ironic for a business in the hospitality industry.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME ON THIS PLACE. Initially they seem organized and efficient but in reality provide service on the backs of workers who are understaffed and overworked, resulting in total breakdown of service.
I've stayed here on 3 different occasions. It's getting better each time, it's been undergoing a remodel. The lobby is beautiful. The rooms are big. The trails are nice for a quick morning jog. Convenient location, not too far from Downtown Asheville. Although, it could be a bit tricky getting in the first time.
Miserable staff. Food in the restaurant is poor quality. If you have a large event, you will quickly find that there is very limited parking spaces available. If you decide to go upscale and rent a villa / suit, you will find that these rooms are right next to a very active freight train line and several trains (long trains) go through every night (and everything shakes). Room service has been report by numerous people in our group as very poor, often arrived cold and over priced. We checked in at 600 pm on Saturday night, the hotel desk clerk did not have a clue what was going on with our group (even though our group reserved several major conference rooms) and the clerk was so thin skinned, he complained to the head of our group that we were causing trouble (which the hotel front desk camera showed was a lie. Several guest in our group checked out on Sunday Morning as this Hotel did not deserve to be called a 4-star resort but more on the quality of a Motel-6
Nice resort but obviously dated, even with recent refurbishment attempts. I was not impressed with the upkeep of my room. Cracked paint, rust on the floor underneath the toilet, stains on the comforter (small but noticeable on the white covers). And the ugly plastic "log" lamp was just laughable. Staff seemed ill-timed - when we checked in the guy at the front desk sent three of us in a row outside instead of through the lobby by pointing in the wrong direction! Plus side, beds were comfy and the shower had plenty of hot water, and the grounds are lovely (though they should maybe label the 5k course if they're going to advertise it in their website).
Excellent hotel with new upgrades. My room was on the top floor and had great view. Beautiful setting for a wedding. On site restaurant was okay. Great customer service by the staff especially if you are an IHG member.
Facilities and rooms were clean and nice. The grounds are expansive and pleasant. I took off a star because our room was in the middle of a wedding party who were slamming doors and running around drunk well into the night. I get that hotels can't always control the behavior of guests, but common sense would dictate putting us in a different part of the hotel and booking all the wedding guests together.
Location wasn't quite what we had hoped for but you just had to get right on the ramp and get off the next exit to go to downtown. Staff was great and friendly. Had great ideas on where to get great beer and food! Loved Thirsty Monk bar! Rooms were clean and beds were comfy. They even left some aromatherapy gifts on the bed!
