I stayed here for 3 nights and had a great experience! This was my first time at a hostel and the value was incredible as I paid $113 for 3 nights including all taxes. I was in a private room with a shared bathroom and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The location is right in the heart of Lincoln Park and I got a voucher for free cover to the Kingston Mines Blues Club. I highly recommend staying here!!

The place is so cool. Kitchen is nice to preparing your own food. Internet is fast. Rooms and bathrooms are ok. There are some employees that are a little bit rude, but nothing serious. Some services like packages deliveries and save the suitcases for a few hours require some additional charges.
The area is cool, near of bus stations and train, so close of the Zoo and have many places to eat and drink. If I need to go to Chicago, this place would be my first choice.response / report this review -

Pleasant location, near to red line. Staff are pleasant. Private room was spacious and comfortable, but in need of a clean. Washrooms/showers lack privacy, need a reno and is not kept well clean. Price is great, good value. Kitchen is well appointed. Breakfast is not great unless you like waffles; no hot food, bad coffee, lots of cereal.

The hostel is located in a very nice upscale residential neighborhood. Free breakfast is included which consists of waffles, cereal, coffee and fruit. Lobby and dining room has modern furniture. Free computer use and printing by the main desk. Pool table costs $1. The community kitchen is quite large and includes all the cookware and supplies you could possibly need. There is community shelving for food and large fridges and freezers for guest storage. A few vending machines are located behind the kitchen. The patio looked great, spacious. Bike rentals are available for $15 for 3 hours or $20 for the day. Popcorn was available in the lobby. Laundry machines in the basement. Room was basic and clean. Shared bathroom included stalls and locked showers inside private stalls. One hairdryer in the bathroom.

The issue people might have with this place is their expectations. This is a hostel, not a hotel. For a hostel, it is fine. A nice neighborhood but with plenty of food options within walking distance. The rooms aren't anything too special but they do the job! I paid $66 a night for a private room with a bunk bed in it and that's all I needed, no more, no less. Free breakfast was appreciated too. The only issue is that the bathrooms are shared but they weren't particularly disgusting or anything. Keep in mind that this place always has lots of guests who are all using the facilities throughout the day. Honestly the place is great for the price. Just understand what you're getting into. Maybe bring an extra pillow if you need more than 1 since my room only came with 1 pillow per bed.

The only "negative" point is the restroom/bathroom that are not top notch but still pretty clean.
The beds are okay and there is breakfast.
The hostel is well maintained and has a good general look, I expected way worse considering the prices offered.
Make sure you come with a lock though, the room can be shared and you might want to leave your stuff inside the room locker's or you luggage on the entrance where they can keep it for you.

The hostel was clean and lively. The entrance, common areas and kitchen were well furnished and modern. The back patio is a lovely addition! Unfortunately the bathrooms are absolutely horrible. I have stayed in many hostels and this was the most dirty and unclean bathroom facility I have seen. A flood occurred in the night in the females ladies toilets, my friend reported it to reception and in the morning it was still flooded from the toilet and waste & toilet paper was scattered all over the floors! So gross.

I stayed at the Chicago Getaway for 3 nights recently.
Pros: I felt safe there and the common room was pleasant. The bed was fairly comfortable and the towel provided was good. The place was clean and in a nice neighborhood
Cons: The showers were really dark - I would hardly see! The restroom was consistently out of soap. The breakfast was all but gone by about 8:00 each day when I got downstairs.
I will probably stay there again because it was quite affordable, but I will bring my own soap and breakfast next time.response / report this review -

It's very important to remember that this is a hostel and not a hotel. As such, there will be amenities that you may be used to that simply won't be present, and it is not the fault of the Hostel as this is due to the nature of the establishment. Having said that, for a hostel this one is quite good. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, and surrounded by excellent dining options. Parking can be an issue but that should be expected of any establishment this close to the city center. However, before booking a bunk here you should carefully evaluate whether a hostel is the sort of facility that can suit your needs. In particular, the bathroom facilities are limited and no soap is provided. As well, given the shared rooms, rather obviously privacy should not be expected. I would certainly recommend this hostel for anyone visiting the Chicago area, but these things should be kept in mind.

Loved our stay here! Staff were great and the room was clean and spacious. Good location and for a great price! I recommend a dairy free option for breakfast (maybe some soy milk to go with cereal?) Thanks for great stay!

The location is very nice: it's in a residential area just a few blocks from CTA Fullerton station. I've stayed in a standard room with double bed and shared bedroom for 2 nights, and it was OK. The room is small but very clean, just as the shared bathroom. The breakfast is continental, but it's enough to fuel you up through the morning. An excellent choice if you want a nice place without expending too much.

Overall, I was disappointed in my stay. The location is good and it has most of the amenities it advertises. The free breakfast is pretty robust and the back patio was great. But I ended up paying nearly as much as a hotel for a room much smaller than advertised and not deserving of the price.

This hostel was in an ideal and very nice neighborhood. It was near lots of restaurants and tourist attractions. The rooms are dorm style and very clean. It provides privacy while also providing opportunities to meet new people. Very modern looking and nice staff. Only downsides were that breakfast was unorganized, bathrooms smelled a little, and showers were very small. Otherwise, would recommend. Affordable and memorable

Clean room, good kitchen space (food storage and pans to cook in!) and tasty breakfast. We were close to the women's bathroom and the sound traveled pretty significantly. Good idea to bring earplugs, sleep mask if you can't tolerate light, and flip flops for the shared showers. Very happy with the location and value, we wanted somewhere more residential and the neighborhood is beautiful! Right next to Lincoln Park, so you can walk over and enjoy the conservatory, zoo, and nature museum. Will stay again!
