This is our second time staying here. Last year in December we stayed here for the first time and we were wonderfully surprised at the quaint cottages and open space. My wife is a Master Gardner and loved the landscape settings. The cottage settings are very nice and offer a great alternative to a hotel room. We will always consider Carmel River Inn as a great place to stay when we are in the area and look forward to our next stay in the near future.

We stayed in Cabin 34 and it is a very comfortable cabin which is well equipped. The only drawback was the 2 chairs to sit in in the room are not very comfortable to sit on when reading the paper or a book. Our little Westie Finnegan rates the resort as 5 Bones a great place for little dogs to visit. He just loved following the paths and the plants and flowers throughout the property. We will return again that is for sure.

We loved our stay at the Carmel River Inn! The staff there surprised us with a complimentary cottage upgrade, without us even asking because it was available. And they let us in our room hours early for the same reason. The cottage was clean, private and an amazing value for the money. The property is located around the corner from the Carmel Crossroads shopping center, which was very convenient for food and coffee options. The inn is also off of a main thoroughfare and convenient to all things in the Carmel/Big Sur area. We highly recommend this gem!

Our cabin looked to be totally refurbished.
I went to the front desk & asked for 3 things to be fixed & NONE got done during our 4 day stay.
1. Shower head just sprinkled water - wife could not get soap out of her hair. I had to go to a hardware store to buy & install a shower head.
2. Bathroom sink was draining very slow. I had to get under the sink to adjust the lever & attachment. Got it working a little better.
3. There was a light switch as you enter the front door. It regulated NO light in the cottage. I couldn't solve that problem so we had to walk through the dark around the bed & to a lamp on an end table. Frustrating.

The place has NO A/C so when all the windows & doors are closed at night, it gets pretty stuffy. We did ask for a fan and they did provide one. Thank goodness.

The grounds are well kept with a lot of flowers.
Really quiet place. Loved that.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the Carmel River Inn. We stayed in a cabin. The cabin itself was a little dated but the place was spotless. The bed was super comfortable. The area was so quiet you almost felt like you were camping because you were in the woods.

Nadia at the front desk was really helpful with our reservation and check in. She was very friendly which made for a warm welcome.

The rates were a little on the pricey side but we were there for a busy week and it was still $200 less than any other hotel in the area so it was well worth it.

We especially appreciate that it was puppy friendly without a ridiculous fee.

We will be back!!

We had an impromptu get away this past weekend and stayed at the Carmel River Inn. We absolutely Loved this place, we stayed in one of the little cottages out behind the main building, and they are So Freaking Cute! It had a good sized room, fireplace, a generously sized bathroom, and an adorable fenced in patio with patio furniture. Bonus - they are pet friendly! We brought our dogs and they loved taking walks with us through the multiple garden areas and playing on the patio. There were a few doggy bags & trashes around the area, as well as a dog bathing area. The landscaping is Beautiful, it feels almost like you're staying in a little cabin in the woods.
We would 100% come back here in the future.

We stayed in one of the cabins for two nights. It's almost like renting a little house because they offer a lot more privacy than a standard hotel. Ours had a little kitchen that had silverware, glasses, a fridge and a microwave so it's a lot more convenient than staying in an ordinary hotel. The grounds are well kept and the staff is very friendly and helpful. There are tons of great restaurants in the area and of course, it's right by the ocean! Can't wait to come back!!

I searched online for a nice, tucked-away place in the Monterrey Area for my wife and I to spend a night of our vacation. I found good online reviews of the Carmel River Inn and decided to give them a call. Upon answering, the employee that assisted me with the reservation was very polite, informative, and patient with my extensive line of questions. I asked him the difference between the hotel rooms and the cottages and he explained in detail. I decided to reserve a cottage.

Initial impressions upon check-in were a clean, quaint establishment that appeared to be well managed. We secured the key to our cottage and drove over. Upon parking in our carport and unloading, we opened the front door to the cottage and were immediately impressed with what we had gotten ourselves into for the evening. The cottage had fresh paint and new appliances. The mini-fridge was stainless and had a digital readout thermometer. The fireplace was operated via a digital remote on the nightstand and added a very nice touch to the evening. A flat screen television was wall-mounted above the fireplace and operated quickly, unlike many typical hotel televisions (I travel a lot).

The bathroom was very clean, had a glass shower door, and adequate water pressure. I was very impressed at the fact that there was a small glass jar on the sink with q-tips and cotton balls. Very nice touch indeed. A exterior door on the opposite side of the room from the front door led to an outdoor back patio with a table and chairs - very small details that made a big difference.

Reading a posted form in the room revealed that we were fortunate enough to stay in one of their "newly renovated" cottages and that the goal was to renovate all of them as time goes on. Also included in the note, was that the staff was seeking feedback regarding the renovations and the feel of the cottage overall. I can truly say this was the best evening we had on our week-long CA trip.

The only suggestion I have is to stock the fridge with 2 water bottles. All necessary amenities for a stay are in the room and there are some very nice touches as well.

Thanks for the great service and hospitality. We have already recommended your property to another couple who plans to visit Monterrey later this year.

Just one night, but I wanted to stay longer. The new cabin was beautiful and had a fantastic bathroom. I wished I had my wife and two kids with me so they could have had a ball on the great bunk beds!

Very cute place and we were able to bring our dog which was perfect unfortunately our entire bathroom was infested with ants from the beginning to the end of our 3 night stay. We asked for another room which they said they could not do and told us they would spray but we would have to keep our dog out as it would be potentially poisons for him. The ants did not go away and they were all over everything our whole stay.. if this was a cheap 40 dollar a night motel I would understand but a 180 dollar a night room that was ant infested was extremely disappointing.

It was actually fun to stay in an old fashioned room that had an actual key! staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms had good maid service.very nice. Would recommend this room as affordable ( well, for Carmel!) and a peaceful, beautiful setting/ Loved the fact that it's within walking distance to downtown and beach!

I booked this hotel for a wedding and it was wonderful. I stayed in one of their cottages that's tucked down away from the road on beautifully landscaped property with lots of mature shade trees. The bed was more comfortable than my bed at home and my girlfriend and I slept right through the night. If you get a cottage with a jacuzzi tub or fireplace they are perfect for a romantic getaway. Shawn at the front desk was helpful and friendly. He even let us check in early so we could get showered and ready to leave for the wedding. I just wish I had brought my dog along because the cottage had a small fenced yard behind it and she would have loved the property.
