Nice people who aleays has a smile for you and provides great customer service. The chocolate cake is awesome. I have had several of their breakfast sandwich and the J.A.B. sandwich is my favorite. My wife enjoys the Veggie Fritata.

This is the kind of bakery where everything seems kind of dry, which some people like but isn't my favorite. The salted chocolate chip cookie was good, but it's a hard cookie (also not my favorite). Coffee was okay and foccacia pizza was good. I'll go back to try one of their sandwiches and maybe a loaf of bread.

I love this place. Their sandwiches in the fridge are great, they focus on good organic ingredients and though some things are very expensive plenty of what they offer is reasonably priced. They also usually offer free water, sometimes with cucumber, which is very classy. Check this place out!

The bakery claimed to be the third best in Detroit.. I guess it's good for the dessert items and baked sweets. I enjoyed the sea salt choco chip cookie and the flour less chocolate cake was amazing. Was not very impressed with the spinach and cheese brioche and the quiche tasted more like scrambled egg with a not so crispy exterior. This place will be good if you are craving for cookies or something sweet. Their bread assortment was also decent..

Ordered a coffee. They gave me an Americano. I asked what an americano was and he said a shot of espresso and boiling water. I said thanks but I ordered a coffee. He wouldn't give me the coffee I ordered. Now I am drinking something that tastes like a shot of espresso poured into a cup of hot water. Gross. He could of cooperated, but he didn't, now you get a bad review. :/

Oh my goodness to they know how to make fantastic baked goods here! A terrific selection from very healthy to very decadent and everything in between. Coffee tea and more as well. You can also find them at the Eastern Market.

Avalon was the first place I stopped to eat in Detroit and from the moment I stepped out of the rain, I was in love. There is an amazing array of baked goods ranging from sweet to savory. My first visit I got a focaccia and blueberry creme brioche roll. Both were absolutely delicious! My second visit I got the veggie quiche, coffee cake, and a coffee. All of which I thoroughly enjoyed. The quiche was perfect. 👌🏽 Highly recommend!

Came in on a Sunday for a to-go bagel sandwich. Not that great, but people who were sitting down seemed to enjoy themselves. Grab and go is not suggested. Probably better to sit down.

I've visited this location. My experience was great. This review is for the new Avalon Cafe & Bakery location on Woodward in downtown Detroit. The new location recently opened on April 14. In true Avalon style, this location is vibrant combined with great service & food. I usually order a sweet treat, not this visit. I ordered the Sausage Biscuit. This is NOT your average sandwich. Oooh the sausage taste homemade with fennel seed and other savory seasonings. It is then set on top of a baked egg that is topped with cheese. Lastly, these yummy components are nestled between a fluffy, made from scratch buttery southern biscuit with a slathering of aioli. $8 at first glance seems high until you see & taste what you're getting. Well worth it!

This is the best bakery in Detroit. They have a ton of fresh breads and cookies. They all made with organic flour and they are delicious. The also have sandwiches to go and coffee from Great Lakes Coffee. Their customers service is really good. I really recommend this place.

I come here for the breads, you cannot best their fresh and moist delicacies. The texture and taste beat out supermarket breads any day of the week. The breads here are all made with quality ingredients, you're not buying disgusting "enriched" bread packed with preservatives. You're getting some legit bread man! The prices aren't too steep, but they aren't exactly cheap. You're getting quality here. I love the rye personally, the chewy outer shell, and it's soft and delicious interior has me hungry just thinking about it. Stop by if you're nearby and check it out, the smell might attract you regardless.
