I've been working in the neighborhood for over 25 years. They business spot has stood the worse of times, now in Detroit's growing new birth of surrounding business. Like any business as such, it is hard to keep good workers, because of the competition. As far as bad workers, they can cause problems and you have to weed them out.
Northern Lights is a good business that thrive to competed, yet never losing their originality. That's what I like about it. I expect no better and no worse, and if by chance it's either day for me, I can always come back and get the better day I desire. I give the business a 4 in rating. I would give it a 5 if their menu honoring Vegan lovers.
Too small 2 be used as a night club. However, environment is diverse, warm, and promotes feel good emotions. The food looked awesome also.
I always have a great experience at Northern Lights! I have popping in for years. They are authenticly Detroit! I PRAY they stay the same! The old culture of Detroit needs to be represented!
Try the Honey Whiskey Wings and a Moscow Mule!! YUM!!
My mother and I stopped in to have a quick bite before showtime at the fisher theater.
We sat in the booth for 10 minutes before my mother got up and went over to the waitstaff member to request that we be served. ( I was already ready to leave at this point)
The waitress threw the menus on the table. Never brought my requested full drink order then came back to take the order. After bringing the order, she never once asked if we needed anything else.
I had their corned beef sandwich on rye bread and french fries. The corned beef was DRY. The fries were nicely seasoned but lukewarm.
My mother had their fish and chips. She said that it was disappointing.
I don’t have a problem with the venue, it is a very nice looking place for what they serve. I ran into problems because the service was poor and the food was not what it could’ve been.
I am very disappointed by Northern Lights Staff and Food overall. It was a horrible dining experience that I do not ever have to go through again because I am never returning to this place.
I don’t recommend this place for anything, to anyone, at anytime.
No one will greet you & forget about being served at your table!!!! You have to go to the bar for anything!!!! Another couple even asked someone clearing table about food and were told they were no longer serving food but were not even asked if they wanted to order drinks!!! Plus no one was sent to their table to check either!!!
This is the 2nd time that this horrible service was experienced there!!!! They used to be really good. Don't know what happened!!!!
Friendly, engaged wait staff, a bar menu that runs from nachos to veggie burgers. Great sweet potato pie. Nice side outdoor option.
Beautiful place, horrible service. If you have to ask someone to take and order after sitting at a table for 30 minutes, there is a problem. It would be possibly acceptable if it happens once, but this happens every time. New servers almost every time I come, but the service is still horrible.
It’s really a shame because their bar has such amazing atmosphere, a great patio and good live music. I assume there is something wrong with the management because we rarely see the same server when we corn back. That being said, the service is horrible by any standard.
Great lighting. Nice outdoor patio. Good food. The legendary Dennis Coffey performs on Tuesday (free entry)
I just had the best dinner on their outdoor patio that in itself is so beautiful and relaxing I can't believe it. Great food and great drinks. You've got to try it. I'll definitely be back!
Bartender is very rude to black people. Very friendly to whites. Made me pay for my drinks and food immediately and im sitting at the bar! I will not be back here.
Pretty neat little place. Good beer selection, cozy place. Their mac and cheese is delicious, and their cider is really good. Only complaint is that their parking lot is dreadful, especially for short cars.
Northern Lights offers great atmosphere, friendly and professional service, good music, and one of the best patios in Detroit! Drink prices are reasonable and parking isn't a big issue most nights. It's a fun place to take out of town guests as well.
I think their menu is too greasy. They also don't put a lot of effort into details, e.g. salads have large chunks instead of small dices, chicken tenders aren't the same size. I have also felt mildly ill twice after having their ranch; maybe temperature issues are to blame. The service is terribly slow. Nice, friendly people, but slow. It's probably a better place to grab a drink and snack than a meal.
Great vibe in this place. The music changes nightly and is always fantastic. Wonderful mix of people. Fantastic food. Dog friendly patio on Sundays..
