Went to a concert here and all was good. Drinks were expensive.. but there lack of security detail kicked us all out and ended the concert early because they had so little crowd control when a few extra people got on the stage after only so many were invited up.. they couldn't stop the extra people from getting in the stage and they instead of clearing the stage even temporarily they just shut it all down

Looks like an abandoned warehouse which is why it's a trendy hot spot. I love going here for any event because it's a gigantic speakeasy.

What a miserable dump. Severely outdated, and dangerous building with broken elevators. Administration and management are indifferent to the needs of tenants. Don't ever be late with your rent, and never go there alone!

"Opportunities forms on the fringe of chaos" -Dr C.S. Holling founder of ecological economics
This Russell was that fringe. Was the place perfect? Not by a long shot. However did it give someone like me a shot at a dream of owning a GYM and the ability to test my masters thesis on how cities can rebuild? Yes, it sure did. I spent months searching for space in Detroit to rent, with help from MIdtown Development. I got no where, because with the new stadium every spot in Detroit wanted double or even triple rent rates. A lot of the time many locations never called back. It took me a few hours and I was renting at the Russell. I hope to find a space soon, before my gym has no members/no reason to exist. I understand that news has to get ratings but the tact that was used could have been better. Now many hardworking people are going to be scrambling. Most, I've heard, will likely leave the city and possibly state all together. (bye bye tax dollars)

I have been to two different events and this venue and they were both great . The Michigan Glass Project and Mad Decent Block Party . I love the RIC - I think it is very artistic and an amazing place .

Scumbag management! Do not risk your buisnesses reputation by holding an event here. All the owners care about is they get their cut, then call the police to kick you out for violating their liquor Liscense. When they dont allow you any control over the bars, its all handled by RIC. Ive only been to 3 events at RIC and all 3 have been shut down by police. 2 of which were because of liquor liscense issues. I highly recommend using other local venues with better ethics and a true pride in their buisness.

Really cool venue if you love underground but absolutely irresponsible and greedy practices. Meltdown 6 (music festival) was shut down about midway through because the RIC only had 2 liquor licenses and was running 7 bars. This forces many unsober people to get behind the wheel :( And, disappointed people who had driven all the way from other states just to see some of the artists that didn't end up getting to play. Please do not support scumbag business. Support local business with good practices. :)

Very interesting use of an industrial building. Spaces for bands, private art showings, parties, classes, everything. I think this place could use a bit of upgrade and some "you are here" maps around this massive building.
