Burgers were so yummy!! Pictured is a half of the double cheese burger with bacon and a half of a bologna burger. Would definitely come back here!

You can order at the door or online. It takes around 20 minutes on a Saturday lunch time. (In January)

I'm really not into vegan but the food here is made to fill you up that truly add nutritious stuff to your body. I truly enjoyed the food, especially the vegan burger. The flavors are well-balanced it will not tip you off the moment you eat it. I enjoyed every bite, as the taste does not overpower the wholeness of the burger despite the other ingredients is raw. The texture is just right to let you enjoy and finish the whole burger and will let you order for more.

During these turbulent times I was amazed by the service and quality of Au Cheval. A co-worker recommended this place to me and I think I owe them a beer for sharing their knowledge. I decided to come to Au Cheval on the first day of my long awaited vacation, or stay-cation that is. I couldn't be happier with experience. A combination of the youthful ambience, amazing music, and delicious food coupled with dimly lit lights made for an unforgettable visit. Please, if you get the chance, stop by Au Cheval. You won't regret it. Don't come all at once. Social distance and please wear your mask.

I was highly recommended this place numerous times by a friend. I finally went to check it out and I’m not so impressed. The burger was a normal burger that tasted good. It wasn’t out of this world, just a normal burger.
Let’s be real though: 2 standard burgers, 1 fry, and 2 soft drinks came out to $50. Really?What a joke. The waiter also had an attitude when we told him we didn’t want to pay through the QR code but through a regular credit card swipe.
I wouldn’t recommend and I wouldn’t go back.

Not that Au Cheval needs any more rave reviews, I'm still gonna put mine out there.

Let me start by saying though, that Au Cheval is so much more than just its burger (and if I'm being honest, I actually prefer the Small Cheval burger). If you come to Au Cheval and only order a burger, you're doing it wrong.

Bone Marrow - nice and charred, served with buttered toast and onion jam. Freaking. Amazing.

Fried Chicken - reminiscent of that delicious sweet and spicy Korean fried chicken (Crisp comes to mind).

Chopped Salad - the dill ranch is completely unexpected and complements the thick slabs of bacon and bleu cheese crumbles perfectly.

Do yourself a favor, and get some sides with your burger.

Phenomenal burgers and beer selection, and the prices are really low given the quality of the food. The duck heart gravy fries were both substantial and memorable. My only issue is the wait, we waited 4.5 hours for our party of 4. Not the restaurants fault at all, just a side effect of how good the food is. Better planning on our end would have made the wait less of an issue.

It is a wait- but it is worth it. Everyone I have ever met who has had the pleasure of going to Chicago has loved this place. I was expecting good food, but not this good. The burgers are cooked perfectly, and the bacon is like perfectly seasoned slabs of crispy pork belly. Highly recommend.

Such a good burger! The bacon is so good, and the combination of flavors is amazing. I didn’t have to wait when I visited (went by myself on a cold December Tuesday at noon), but I’ve heard the wait times are insane. I will say that their cousin 4 Charles Prime Rib in NY has a slightly better burger, but this one is hands down one of the best I’ve ever had!

Great restaurant with amazing burgers. The burger I got at Au Cheval is one of the best I have had. In addition to burgers, there are many other intriguing items on the menu. Because of the popularity, be prepared to wait for a table. The group of people I was with ended up waiting nearly 2 hours to be seated. Despite this, it was definitely worth the wait.

Came here for a post Marathon meal and was not disappointed. If you’re a couple or flying solo would recommend sitting at the bar. You’re able to watch this very talented crew create burger after burger brilliantly.

Even though they have an extensive beer and wine list we focused on the cocktails. Began with a pickle back (whiskey and a shot of pickle juice) followed by a Hemingway Daiquiri, Bees Knees and Old Fashioned. The list is their take on classics which all went down perfectly with our food.

If it’s your first time here and you’re hungry, highly recommend the double. It’s three patties, cheese, minced red onions and a delicious sauce. It comes with a knife in it which I promptly used to saw this beast of a burger in half. The bread and butter pickles are fantastic and their fries are not to be missed. You will walk out of here completely satisfied.

The draw to this place is the Marketing and the visual appeal of the burgers. Don't get me wrong, the thick cut bacon, and drippy style burger is awesome, but it's a 4 Stars because overall, it's just not the perfect 5 star combination. I've had better burgers judging on overall taste. The vibe is cool, just really loud, and I probably won't go back unless I'm with new friends. Great place, but sure as heck ain't no 5.

Delicious burger, amazing fries, but over hyped.

I really wanted Au Cheval to be my favorite burger place. I wanted to have a religious experience that would force me to drag my out of town friends here. However what I found was a delicious burger (get the egg and bacon) and awesome fries.

It was incredibly difficult to get a table. They have one line which forms for both people that have a table ready and for people looking to add themselves to the wait list. This causes confusion and would be better setup as two lines, perhaps add people to the wait list outside and people that have a table ready go inside?

Our wait ended up being about an hour which wasn't the worst I've seen, but it's still a long wait considering you can get excellent burgers elsewhere in the city without waiting.

Overall I'll come back someday. However this isn't going to be a regular spot for me.

I'm going to give it a three, I am going to admit that their burgers was Fantastic. However, take note, the waiting is too long, especially just for a simple dish that I am starting to think that they lack chiefs and cooks. Burger was great, it was fantastic but I can't really say it was worth the wait because just for a burger and other simple dishes, I had to wait a lot. This is not a Good place if you are hungry, however, this is a good place if perhaps you are not in hurry, and wanted to try a good burger then give it A go, just make sure that when you come to this place you are not starving. I hope they will improve.

The wait is long and there's no avoiding it. It is worth the wait. The burger is amazing and seasoned perfectly. It's so simple and I can see why everyone orders the burger. The cheese adds the creamy and salty element. The thin slices of pickles is just the bite of tang and freshness. The herb salad is so fresh and makes you feel a little better of yourself. The root beer complements the meal and adds the right amount of sweetness. It was such a fun meal and experience.

Very good burger

I went "by the horse" on a Thursday for lunch at ~10:50am. They open at 11am. The line was approx. the size of the restaurant as I was seated with my friends as the last party at the bar with the first wave of guests. The bun I think was brioche and good. Beef patty was cooked medium well. I was not asked how I wanted to have it cooked. The bacon was crispy. The egg was running and salted strong. Eating demanded paying attention as lots of fat was pouring out. Overall one of the best burgers I have eaten - I'd say en par with AJ's in New Rochelle, NY. The garlic fries were tasty and excellent.

I don't know if it's the best burger in America, but it's the best I've ever had. Get the bacon and the egg. Cut it in half to make it easier to eat. Show up at 4:00 before the kitchen opens and try to snag a bar seat. Kill time with local beers and well mixed cocktails. If you get a bar seat, you have a first row seat to the show. By show I mean 20 tiny spatulas perfectly frying individual eggs.

Johnny Cash has a line, "I tell ya, I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when" This lyric came to mind while eating the signature "single cheeseburger" on my first visit to Au Cheval. I might have had a better burger at some point in my life, but last night while eating Au Cheval's, none came to mind. It was fantastic in every way; I could think of nothing that would have improved it. Hot, juicy, perfect mix of beef, bread, cheese and toppings (be sure to add the bacon and egg), very well-seasoned. The word that kept popping into my mind while eating it was "balance." It was very, very good. I can't wait to get back. We also had the regular fries, but didn't eat many of them. They were fine, but we didn't want to take up valuable stomach real-estate while there was still more burger to eat.

Worth the trip, worth the wait (we picked a good night, only about 30 minutes), and it definitely lived up to the hype.

Absolutely phenomenal burgers. So much amazing food - don't eat before you visit. Fries are amazing. Flapper drink was so unique - definitely try it. Service was very attentive. Only reason it wasn't five stars is because of the wait - but I'm not sure what they can do about being in such high demand. Picture is of the grilled brats and mashed potatoes - don't miss it!

Ate lunch there today and i did get there 10 minutes before it opened for lunch. There was already 6 people in line before me. But the good thing is I did not have to wait in line for a table. I ordered the "single" burger which gets you 2 beef patties. The usual cheese, egg and bacon round out the toppings. It was fantastic ! Best burger in town. Well worth the wait for a table if there is a line when you go. Also, considering a 'single" burger is really 2 beef patties then be careful about ordering any sides. You will find yourself really filling up you stomach with just that.
This is a must go to place in the West Loop. Enjoy !
