THANK YOU, to the wonderful volunteers and staff for your heart warming love and compation for animals. I had a situation that involved a mother dog of six puppies. The staff returned my call the same day and offered immediate assistance. Things worked out and I didn't need their service but I truly appreciate them and I like they are selective on who can adopt.

Like others, I certainly read some bad reviews before I submitted an application, but I fell in love with one of the cats on the website and decided it was worth the risk! To my delight, I received a call within 24 hours of emailing the questionnaire and was then asked some basic additional questions. I was able to schedule a visit to the shelter that upcoming weekend to see Jackson (aka Jude). While there, I was allowed to visit with other cats and filled in on details about their personalities.

Volunteer Mary-Kaye has been there for years and she was amazing!! She was incredibly friendly and went out of her way to make adopting a positive experience. She even went above and beyond when Jackson was still having minor health issues to set up another vet visit post-adoption, which ABC covered. Her and the Director later came to my house to administer a final vaccine to Jackson.

Finally, Jackson turned out to be super-clingy and really needed a friend (our dog was not particularly interested in being BFFs), so we ended up adopting one of Jackson's babies. We were able to keep Bella on a temporary trial basis at first to make sure the 3-pet household would work for everyone. It ended up being a great solution. I felt like they really cared about finding a good fit for both the owners and the animals. would definitely recommend adopting through Mary-Kaye at ABC!

I really appreciate and love the volunteers at this shelter! They genuinely care for each and every animal they are able to rescue and screen well to ensure the best forever home. I adopted the most amazing friend from ABC, Lola. At any other shelter, Lola probably would have been put down. She was shy, lacked confidence and didn't "show well." She was passed up by many looking to adopt. Andra (a completely non-paid volunteer) and ABC were determined to help rehabilitate her and give her a safe loving environment.even if that meant living the rest of her years at ABC. Fortunately, I found Lola with the help of Andra and Dave. With some love, a calm home and lots of toys, Lola blossomed into the best fur baby one could hope for. Andra, you and your volunteers are such an amazing people with an amazing hearts! Thank you for all you do for the pets of our community and taking the time to find the perfect forever home to each pet!

I adopted a very sweet dog (name of WooWoo) who was rescued by ABC. It was obvious that ABC treated WooWoo well and took great care of her. She and my other dog, Sparkles, get along wonderfully and WooWoo is the perfect addition to our family. I'm nothing special, have an average home and did not find it difficult to adopt WooWoo. I have nothing but praise for ABC rescue.

Be careful what information you give the volunteers; even innocuous information is passed on to the "director." We were only allowed to interact with the animals through the bars of their pens (with one exception, but the volunteer said he wasn't supposed to let us in with the animal). We had revealed to the volunteer that our dog had died of cancer at age 10 and were looking for a replacement animal. Unlike some other reviewers, at least our application was given a follow up phone call. We were told by the director that in her opinion our dog got cancer from the Iams dogfood we had fed it. She indicated someone else would get back with us, but we received no follow up; it was clear we did not meet her criteria.

My son volunteered at this shelter for months in the past, and upon reflection he could not recollect any animal ever being adopted. I can understand wanting to make sure that the animals in your charge get good homes, but I cannot understand someone who feels it is better to keep animals locked in concrete pens for months or years rather than allow them to go to a loving home that has fed a dogfood she feels isn't up to par.

We felt we wasted our time and emotional energy.

ABC Was wonderful! They worked closely with us through the adoption process, and we ended up adopting our dog from Here! The owner is wonderful and really cares about these dogs. All the employees were polite and helpful. We highly recommend them if your looking to adopt a great dog. They have so many wonderful dogs here it was hard to choose, but we ultimately made the right choice thanks to the help of the owner and staff.

We adopted 2 dogs from this shelter, and were foster-fails with 2 more, over the past several years. They take in dogs that other shelters would euthanize; they have been mistreated and abused. The volunteers spend a lot of time with these animals to give them a chance to get used to kindness and love, and to get over their fear of humans. The management at ABC is very concerned that they make a good match between the dog and the adopters so the dog doesn't end up back on the street again. Yes, they ask a lot of questions and are very particular, but they have the dog's best interests at heart. ABC cares about their animals' welfare first, not making money by shuffling animals out the door whether the match is good or not. If, in the future, we have room for another addition to our family it will come from ABC.

We had an outstanding experience adopting our dog here and found it to be a top-tier shelter. The director was very selective about human and animal fit and our new dog has become a great addition to our family, which includes two other dogs and a cat. We were looking for an active, even-tempered playmate for our 18 month old American Bulldog/Heeler mix and the process worked well for us. We were given everything we needed for a weekend stay to confirm if the dog was a good match and to ensure her comfort (leash, food, crate). Closing the adoption was efficient, thorough and easy with the director even coming to our house to complete the process. We have experienced the full range of adoption experiences, from the simple, just show up look reasonable, fill out the paperwork and pay, to the very onerous pre-screening process with lots of paperwork and interviews. I can see the pros and cons of both, especially depending on the type of dog (e.g. extremely large and potentially aggressive mastiff rescues shouldn't be released to just anyone looking for a dog). This shelter skews to a more thorough process so your expectations should be in line with that. And you can expect to deal with a very well-intentioned, dedicated group who will err on the side of the animals they care for. We highly recommend this shelter if you're a responsible pet owner looking to add a rescue to your family.

Working with the Animal Benefits Club (ABC) to adopt our dogs has been nothing but a really great experience. We just adopted our second dog from them, and each one of them has brought a lot of joy and happiness into our home. ABC does a great job of rescuing and taking care of animals who in many cases have gone through some really tough and unwarranted situations. I’ve been really impressed with the director who knows the detailed history of every dog. She rescued our first dog from the streets of Phoenix several years ago. Our second dog was less than an hour away from being euthanized. In each case, she knew exactly what each dog had been through, their personalities, and any health issues. She is very careful to make sure that each animal is placed into a home where all the circumstances and conditions are ideal for that animal to not only survive, but to thrive as well. ABC does a very thorough job of evaluating the people and home of each potential adoption. Given that information, they are able to determine if everything is ideal for the adoption to take place. To love a potential pet is not enough if the circumstances and environment are not ideal or right given the animal’s special needs. I have never felt that ABC sees itself as a rescue mill where getting the pet adopted is all that matters. For example, with our last adoption, he came from an environment where he had been horribly neglected to the point of being near death. He has a number of health issues, and he also suffers from severe separation anxiety. ABC spent the time and money to nurse him back to health. In fact, the adoption won’t be finalized until his health conditions are under control and can be easily managed. Even though the dog is now in our home, ABC continues to pay all of his medical expenses. Since he would be the coming into our home with an existing dog, ABC was extremely accommodating in providing the time and people to allow us to introduce the dogs to each other and to give them time to adjust to each other. This was an extremely important step in making sure the 2nd dog was coming into an environment that was right for him. Other reviews have complained about the lack of “promoting” these animals. ABC uses TV, Facebook, and the internet to promote these animals, just to name the sources I have seen. Other reviews have suggested that the animals don’t get adopted but instead live out their days at ABC. This makes no sense to me given there have been 5 adoptions from ABC on my street alone! I’m extremely grateful for an organization like ABC where genuine care and concern for the animal takes precedence over just getting the animal adopted. I’m proud to support them. As for the director and all the employees and volunteers, I trust their instincts, I trust their experience, and I respect their genuine concern for the animals they rescue.

I should have read the reviews before I visited this shelter. This place really needs to be checked out by whatever agency regulates charities, because there is something wrong going on there. They really don't seem to care if any of the dogs get adopted. My 8 year old daughter fell in love with one of their dogs, and we filled out an application last weekend. I waited three days for a call, and then I started leaving messages. The director never called me back, but she did call my husband's cell phone after he called and did not leave a message. When he told her why he was calling, she claimed that she had two hundred applications for the same dog and then hung up on him. My daughter was devastated.

I left a lengthy review of this awful place on Yelp. I read other reviews and I can confirm - the director of this place has something wrong with her, because animals are not being promoted, and tend to spend years at that place without a chance of getting adopted. I volunteered there and hated it, it was so very depressing to see all those perfectly adoptable animals spending their whole lives in cages.I tried to make suggestions on how to improve things and how to promote animals, but even though other volunteers liked them, the director rejected everything and kept doing her own thing. There's something very fishy going on there. I lasted a couple of months and went to a different shelter where I have been for almost a year now, loving every day I spend there. Since I left I've met many other people who volunteered there or tried to adopt from them and for the most part the impression is the same -- TERRIBLE management, selfish, unreasonable director. Please do not support this place financially, she can't be trusted. I wish I could say "Adopt from them", but after reading other reviews, I see they may not let you. They do save animals, so they deserve one star for this. They also charge you for volunteering there, they call it a donation though. That's right: if you want to donate your time or your abilities to them, they want you to pay for it first ($35 per person and $75 for a family) and no, you don't get any T-shirts with their logos or anything else for this, they just collect the money and then you are allowed to help them. There are many other organizations that deserve support and help, but definitely not this one.
