Don't be fooled by the great looking photos, this place is a dump outside. Our reservation made hours earlier was not received when we arrived at the hotel and had to wait an hour for the paperwork to go through. The rooms themselves where decent, but the sound of water flowing through pipes in the building might make it hard for you to fall asleep.
We went to meet family from out of town who were staying at the Gateway Hotel for the night, awaiting their flight from the international terminal to Brisbane the following day. We met our family in the dining room/bar. We are not overly fussy people. But seriously had to take a breath and clench our fists before entering. It was like walking into a school hall in the 70s. We managed to negotiate that. There were some small couches and a fireplace to the left of the bar. We tried to order some bottles of wine, our first choice was not available, nor was our second (these are the cheapest bottles from the supermarket - $7 bottles being sold for $35) We ordered platters but were told we were unable to sit at the couches to eat the food - we needed to move 10 metres to the left and sit at the tables, we questioned this and were firmly told it was not negotiable which made no sense to us. the food was unappetising and inedible. Fried seafood basket had fish fingers which had been twice cooked. I was actually reluctant to eat anything for fear of getting sick. I cant comment on the rooms as we did not stay there. But toilets were below average when compared to some public toilets in the vicinity. However waitress was friendly and quick to make excuses for lack of everything. I am not sure how this establishment is still operational. Not a good experience for anyone arriving to NZ.
Nice hotel, nice location. Will stay again.
Very dishonest hotel that have no interest in hospitality or their guests. We were overcharged an additional night even though we had cancelled the booking.
Plus the actual hotel is very tired and dirty. The restaurant food is inedible. We were traveling with 2 elderly women and myself with 5 month old baby. No offer to help with bags, vague directions to the room, told us to park our own car in the car park around the back for storage. I'd be surprised if this hotel lasts when they clearly have no idea how to treat their customers. Disgusted with their service.
So comfortable. Bus 5 mins walk away. Food excellent. Staff lovely.
The room was good and clean. That's the only good. We were rudely greeted by the lady at the front desk, who then had an argument in front of me with someone else who worked there. We phoned to ask for more towels, and were told to wait for somebody to come back from an airport pick up. We wouldn't stay here again, very disappointing. You work in the tourism industry, I suggest you work on your mannerisms, and how to interact with people in a friendly way!!!!! Highly disappointing.
Rooms look as if they are recently refurbished. Bed is good. The restaurant is awful! Worst food i ever tasted.
AWFUL! AWFUL! AVOID - do not book please - I wish I had read the reviews as I would never have stayed - I and a number of others stayed as we had a conference there!
Conference facilities were terrible but that is for the organiser to address, however as an individual staying for 3 nights, disappointed is only the start!
Rude staff, flies, cockroaches, dirty glasses, cobwebs and the use of "fish n chip paper" on top of tablecloths to "stop the need for washing - I can only assume!", the terrible food, lack of service, no spa - you need to book to "heat" up and then it costs, no free Wifi given on check in, no valid kitchen licence and no change of a $20 note (plus the eftpos not working) available in the bar plus budget drinks but brand costs make this hotel possibly the worst in NZ!
Deserves no stars - I am thinking of approaching Fair Go!
Below average food below average customer service only good thing to note on this place was our check out date the staff are rude and non helpful I wouldn't let my dog stay here
Worst experience of my life! We travel overseas and around New Zealand a lot however I’ve never come across customer service this poor in my life! And you advertise on your web site that you like to treat guests with genuine, friendly “kiwi hospitality”. That’s not what we got today!
Paid for breakfast so arrived at the bar and restaurant (very dated, dark and it has this stale and musty smell to it, unappealing for consumption of food) rang the bell twice nobody came but we can hear dishes banging from the back room. My husband rang the bell again no one came out. There was a pool table there so we decided to play while waiting. Put in our $2 and half way through our game this lady (worker) came out and demanded rudely and very loudly that we’re not allowed to play on the pool table. My husband replied that we’ve been waiting for 20 minutes and no one came, she immediately replied “No you haven’t” and it started an argument between her and my husband. I told my husband to leave it that I wanted to leave.
I asked for a refund of our breakfast and we packed and left immediately. Lady if we weren’t allowed to use the pool table why don’t you put up a sign! Your pool table did not reject our $2. The problem we had was how rude you were! You lack the “kiwi hospitality” and friendliness you advertised because from a kiwi your behaviour was far from what is considered genuine customer service in hospitality. Very poor service ratings should be less 0.
Adequate. Clean. Shuttle from airport. Don't expect room service. Breakfast is toast.
