Cute hotel and super friendly staff. Quick tip, not the place for you if you're visiting when hot and you prefer central air, which our room didn't havenor an oscillating fan.

The location of the hotel allows easy transport in any direction either on foot or by tram / metro. The museums and the markets are just a walk away. Grabbing something to eat is even easier.
The staff is extremely friendly and always available.
Things to know in Amsterdam: most hotels do not have air conditioning (and it's usually not necessary), transportation is excellent and renting a car is really unnecessary even if you plan on going to the countryside.

Ok, the location is great, 10 min walk or a short tram ride and you're right in the middle of it all. But everything else It's a nice break from all those fancy hotels you imagine yourself staying at. I stayed in several hotels in the middle of the South-American jungle, and in European Radissons/Swissotels. Unlike in those 3-star hotels in Peru, room is clean, has a window with an actual glass that actually blocks noise from the street, although mine didn't open/close correctly and it was a struggle every single time. It had nice curtains that completely blocked daylight, which is super useful if you want to sleep past noon. There was an electric teapot in the room, with one tea bag and some instant coffee/cream. Mine required some adjustment before it started to work, but it did work.
Now, I must mention that I got the cheapest room available (2 nights on a July weekend cost me 140€, tax incl.). And while it did say "shared bathroom", I got lucky and had a private one down the hall.
Unlike in those fancy hotels, room was *really* small. I probably would not be able to lie across it. Hotel is a rebuilt old house, so corridors and staircases are completely random in there, kinda of like in Esher's house. Walls are super thin, so you can hear what people are talking down the hall behind doors, and both nights there was a distinct squeeking noise in a rhytmic pattern. You can fire a cannon next to me and I will not wake up, but if you're a light sleeper or trying to go to sleep before 2 am then it might be a problem.
Hotel offers breakfast, which I didn't check out, because (read above) I really like to sleep past noon. No bar is available, but there's a mini-bar in the lobby, where you can buy a 33cl cola for 2.50, or even smaller bottle of water for, I think, 2 euros. Really charming guy on reception told me that tap water is drinkable (+1 point), and suggested that I reconsidered making this purchase, and I did.
Actually, the whole staff was very friendly and welcoming, even the cleaning ladies, who are usually like ghosts.
So, if you're adventurous or short on money, but like to be (almost) where it's all at, totally go here. I think it's an experience everyone should have in their life. I'm totally staying there another timeresponse / report this review -

Rooms more on the small end, but neat, tidy and tastefully furnished, and equipped with everything you might need. Very good value for money in central Amsterdam. Staff professional and helpful.

Excellent staff, interesting old building, good rooms, very close to museums. Breakfast isn't free but it is a buffet and the eggs, omelets and pancakes are all made to order.

Amazing experience with friendly staff. This family-owned hotel is your home away from home. Love this place and would def recommend it. Lisa is such a sweet host.
