I had a great stay at this hotel.
The location was great.
The history of the building was amazing. The rooms were clean and very spacious with lovely bathrooms.
The gym was good for hotel standards. The day spa was great and I enjoyed the spa.

The hotel itself is nice with an old style, but has mice and installation problems. We couldn't sleep the second night because our room had 2 mouse and that night we heard other rooms with the same problem. Then they provided us an upgrade on the 3rd floor. The heaters weren't working, and they provided us an small portable heater for a big room. Take in account that they will freeze in your credit card a considerable amount of money as deposit, and also that in the check out they will charge a goverment tourist fee per day.

The hotel is quirky and traditional. Rooms comfortable, though not particularly well serviced at times - they missed making the bed once which was unfortunate, but quickly corrected. Breakfast fair, nothing exceptional. So why five stars? Because the location is first class, the staff are brilliant and the concierge was simply amazing. This guy helped plan our time, arranged tickets and got us a great table at a restaurant at last minute (and the place was packed when we got there, for good reason). Not cheap, but you pay for the location and service.

Everything was top notch, from check in to the room to the complimentary mini bar. My only gripe is why not have an actual bathroom door? Am I alone in wanting bathroom privacy regardless who I'm sharing a room with? Speaking of bathroom though, this was one of the best showers I've ever had, the pressure and temperature eveneness were perfect, and the fixtures effective and beautiful. Great spot!

Amazing Amsterdam school architecture and overall vibe, excellent staff. Nice breakfast. The room was big but was overlooking the inner side of the building while this was not clear when booking it.

A great place to stay, friendly, professional staff and well maintained historic building. Tourists take pictures of the place it seems well known. Close to pretty much all locations in the centre.

"Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam is located in the former Scheepvaarthuis, a decorated monument and example of the Amsterdam School architecture." This monumental building previously housed the shipping agents for the Port of Amsterdam, during it's tasteful conversion to a hotel many of the original features such as the agents ticket windows have been retained. The rooms are beautifully appointed and have very high ceilings giving an airy feel. There are plenty of power outlets at the desk for charging your devices including a British 3 pin socket for visitors from across the North Sea. My bathroom had a separate shower enclosure and a bathtub big enough to (nearly) double as a swimming pool! Add helpful and attentive staff to the recipe and you have a most luxurious hotel. I'll definitely visit again.

What a beautiful hotel. My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights. The staff are lovely, particularly the Concierge who was very helpful with a great sense of humour. The location is also superb. Our room was delightful, over looking the canals. We will definitely visit again, thank you for making my partners 50th Birthday special.

The hotel was very drab. It was dark and kind of unsettling. Even our couch was black don't want to even consider what was hiding there.
The staff seemed very friendly. Our room was not clean by 3pm (past check in) so they gave us a "complimentary" upgrade and ONE free drink ticket (for 2 people). The free drink ticket was humorous. The bartender ended up giving us 2 free drinks because it seemed ridiculous. Upon checkout, we were charged 800 for the complimentary upgrade. The woman took our information and said she'd call after they figured out what happened there. No one has contacted us. It's been 4 days.
The room was rushed, when they set it up for us. There was trash on the window sills and our mini fridge was not restocked. We had ordered champagne to be in the room, when we arrived but had to call down 2 times before it arrived. Then the guy who delivered our luggage was basically asking for a tip (we didn't have any euro on us). Checking in here is not a fun process. The whole thing is a scam.
Our room itself was 3 stories. Sounds nice but it was a complete pain. The stairs are very narrow and hard to get up and down. The bedroom is on the second floor but the bathrooms are on the first and third. The entire room was very dark and almost wet. You have NO control of the air, just heat.
Also, for a 5 star hotel, there were no robes (something I always look forward to) I'm honestly not sure how this hotel has 5 stars. I'd give 5 stars to the breakfast but 3 to the hotel itself.response / report this review -

Location is great, right next to the train station! However its very easy to get lost inside- indoor layout is very strange. Rooms are very charming and amazing views! We were having issues with the tv for the past day or so. Spotty reception and the remote did not work, but staff was quick to help fix! However we did call down for ice, front desk said they would bring but we did not receive any :(. Overall, a very nice stay if you are planning a trip to Amsterdam!

The Grand Hotel Amrath is the most amazing building. We could happily have spent the day exploring the hotel and for that alone, it deserves a five star rating. Our stay was fabulous; the staff were friendly and helpful, our room was enormous, clean and with a very comfortable bed and the complimentary mini bar was a welcome addition. The hotel is well located and everything is within walking distance. What is there to complain about? We loved it - just sorry we didn't stay longer.

Service is top notch. Room has high ceilings and bathtub. Free mini bar. Minus 1 star for poor wifi connection in my room but didn't need anyway. Old lift is unique but didn't work at one time no sign on the lift to say it was out of order. Luckily there's also a modern lift on the other side of the building.

The service was awesome! Room service every night, very kind personable staff. Left with a $1k room service tap so not cheap, but food was yummy. Hotel restaurant meal was amazing, delicious. And breakfast each day was a wide variety of national and international foods.
I really can't say enough about how kind the staff was though. I will definitely be staying here on my next trip to Amsterdamresponse / report this review
