Location is absolutely great !! The short time tripper like me mainly consider how conveniently I can move to hot spots, so other things were not such important. Trams are very close to use and many attractive bars and restaurants are surrounding it.
But keep it mind if you are finding high quality sleep you'd better avoid here !! Very noisy until deep night even if every windows kept closed.response / report this review -

Do you remember the worst toilette in Scotland of Trainspotting? Ok so Hostal Leidsplein is the worst Hostal in Amsterdam. The level is the same of the movie, dirty rooms, blankets not washed, 12 persons for room and you have to pay more than 50€/night. You have to share the bathroom also with the other 11 in your room and if you want to leave your baggages at the reception they ask you other money. Breakfast included means that you have a cup of coffee or tea and an old piece of bread with chocolate.
Also the Hostal Leidsplein is far from the center, from the train station and from airport.
The people you can find in your room is just another adventure here but this is not a fault of the Hostal.. people screaming at night, talking alone or just coming back at 6am completely drunk.
If you want to leave Amsterdam with some illness or bacterial virus this is a perfect place, but if you want to enjoy Amsterdam I just can suggest to go in another place.response / report this review -

Located above a big strip of bars and restaurants that go late into the night. If being close to the action is your thing it's great, but you may lose some sleep to the sound of the top 40 hits blasting from downstairs. Some lockers in the dorms would've been cool too. Otherwise, pretty good. Pretty easy walk from central station, close to tram line as well.

We were there for just a night, but I would recommend this hostel to anyone who wants to go to Amsterdam and wants to be near the center. It's a noisy neighborhood at nights, so bring earplugs if you can't sleep with noise. There are no lockers in the rooms, and that can be a little bit annoying, but it's bearable. The workers are really nice and help you with any trouble you may be having. There is breakfast included (consisting in bread, marmalade, nutella, peanut butter, coffee and tea). It's nice for the price.

These guys tried to bait-and-switch me last week. I made a reservation on their website but when I arrived at the hostel they told me they cancelled a reservation because they made a pricing error and that I'd have to pay an extra 30 Euros if I wanted the room--naturally I declined. I'd recommend going elsewhere but if you decide to stay here, use a booking agency so you have at least some course for redress.

One thing I was hoping for is that they had locker in the rooms so we didn't have to keep our luggage downstairs behind their desk. Ended up locking my bag to the bed. They can loan you towels for your stay but it is 6 euros. Rooms aren't to bad for a hostel. It's hard to control hot/cold in the shower and the lights in the bathroom is motion activated. It turns off really fast and it is not very good at picking up motion. Prepare for a very interesting experience while taking a dump or shower.

The hostel is a very basic hostel. You get what you pay. It's right in the middle of the nightlife quarter, which was great for me and my friends. However the 'free breakfast' was disappointing great if you just like brown bread and weak tea/coffee. The rooms haven't got any secure lockers, so make sure you bring a suitcase/bag you can lock!! The beds were comfy, the bathroom was basic, but well we didn't expect the MOUSE we shared our room with Majority of the staff are rude and couldn't care less.

You get what you pay. Very cheap place. Consider this a bed and breakfast place and not a hotel. Bathrooms were clean, breakfast was okay, very friendly staff, location is perfect.

First of all, the location is superb. That's about it. The haven't heard of a concept called air conditioning, never sweat at any place I stayed like here. Not even a freaking fan!! Oh and also saw a mouse in the room. Please stay away from this place.

The only good thing is the location. I was 3 days without bed sheets and every time I ask for it they replied "Later". They don't have lockers in the rooms. Someone stole clothes to a few guys and no one answered to their complains.

This hostel was quite as I expected from a hostel. The bathroom was better than expected, and seemed ro have been renovated quite recently. The back side of this hostel would be the location, which is fairly noisy, with bars and loads of people just outside the window.

Very good location and gentel staff. I'd recommend this to someone who wants to enjoy the nightlife in Amsterdam because the bar and pubs neer it are really cool.

I really don't understand the bad reviews of this place. Firstly, IT IS NOT A HOTEL. People who compare it with one are missing the point. Its perfectly nice, room was clean and beds were made. Wifi is laid on and shower was hot. Not sure you can ask for much more to be honest. Only issue I had was that one of the bulbs was blown in the bathroom making the shower a bit dark! Otherwise a winner.

Absolutely unsanitary and disgusting. Cheap is what you get for a cheap price. Breakfast is only toast & jam. If you're not an animal person, they also have a cat roaming around. You have 72 hours before arrival to cancel. It is non-refundable after that. Arrival time was set for 11, arrived earlier than expected & was told to come back at 1 to access our room. Came back at 1, still wasn't ready. The following morning, 3 of our roommates left & watched as the employee change the bed sheets but not the blanket with all 3 beds. If you wanna be covered in someone else's dirt, this is the place to stay. Paid for 3 nights, stayed for 1 w/ no refund. When asked to speak with a manager, they wouldn't give me any contact or information, a name, or the next time the manager would be in.
