Very bad service. We were treated very unfairly. For a big Hotel like Riu. They have a lot of unprofessional workers working there. The workers think they run the place and make there own rules for there convenience. The lobby man at the front desk named Maurizio is very rude and will only treat you well if you tip him in dollars other than that he will go to major extents to get you kicked out of the hotel. Also there manager was very rude, as a manager you should be able to speak to the customer and figure out a way to come to a solution, but this guy wanted nothing to do with us and told us "I have nothing to tell you" and walked away. My husband and I were treated like if we were criminals even made us wait outside the hotel until our friend got our stuff. All we wanted to do was to purchase guess wrist bands to enjoy the day with the rest of the wedding party. As soon as Maurizo heard we only had cash in dollars, he told us we can only pay in Mexican money or credit card and wanted to charge us a lot more money than what the wedding planner had told us. My husband and I were discussing the situation and Maurizio thought we were talking bad about him, which we weren't, we were just trying to understand what was happening. So long story short I will never stay there or recommend anyone to stay there. The staff only cares about $$$$ and will do anything to get it.
Good food throughout, however, all of the restaurants close. Only 24 hour food is the snack bar, offering pre-packaged food. All but one of the restaurants required reservations or a one hour wait time. The resort feels like it caters more to the party crowd. Close to downtown. Friendly staff but most of them were not bilingual. Rooms were nice with beautiful views of the Gulf.
Hit and miss resort:
Bad: Food was very hit or miss. If it was good, it was fantastic. If it was bad, you didn't want a single bite. They claim 24 food service from the sports bar, but it's just a refridgerator / microwave with packaged burgers/hot dogs/basic sandwiches. The other restaurants were decent, but only buffet had any variation all week, with the Italian, Japanese, Steakhouse, and Specialty restaurants not even seeing a change in menu. Entertainment was nearly nonexistent, and unadvertised when it did occur.
Good: Beach was small, but nice if you could find a spot to put your towels. Bar service was absolutely phenomenal, with great drinks made very quickly. Service was helpful when asked, and most employees spoke English fairly well. Japanese restaurant probably had the most consistently good food, and was top notch.
The staff is great and the rooms and property are well maintained. They have nightly entrainment in the theater and plenty of poolside activities during the day. There are several pool areas some are quite and relaxing others more of a party atmosphere with music and other activities. There are several restaurants and bars all over the resort. Aside from the sports bar the food at the other restaurants is very good. The lunch and breakfast buffet has plenty of options.
This hotel and the staff are way too amazing! Had such a blast being their with all of the food tasting amazing and all of the variety to choose from was great. The rooms were beautiful and the staff would always do an amazing job making it look spotless when we left our room. The night shows are also super awesome and how much energy they put into them. If you're debating on staying at this hotel take my word and book it up right away because you will not regret it! The only thing i will throw out their that needs improvement was the hot tub wasn't actually hot, not sure if something was wrong with it at the time but that really wasn't a big deal at all when everything else was perfect. Thanks to all of the staff for making it the experience it was.
Amazing hotel, great fun staff. Loads of games and activities arranged in the pool. Foods great, alacarte not so great tho, but the main buffet has a great range of hot and cold food BBQ by the pool some days too which was amazing. Overall I would recommend the hotel itself. Also the location is the best, right next to cocobongos and the other main clubs of cancun. Go, go, go!!
Room: 618
+ Amazing view (see photos)
+ quiet & large
+ 3 beds (2 double beds pushed together and 1 twin)
+ Fully stocked mini fridge with beers, sprite, pepsi and botted water
+ double sinks in bathroom
- Shower did not drain fully, leaving you 5 minutes to have a shower before water would overflow into the bathroom
- Water in shower was lukewarm at best
- no fan in bathroom = extra humid and slippery
Hotel:
+ Buffet was amazing, hot, and fresh everyday
+ Service was through the roof, they really go above and beyond
+ Drinks were watered down but still delicious, and would be quick to make what you ordered, even customized drinks
+ Far pool near the Jacuzzi was always clean, quiet and hardly busy
+ Beach was cleaned every morning and they had servers come out to the beach to bring you drinks
+ Front desk insanely helpful. Upgraded us to a 3 bed room for 3 of us, we lost a towel card and room key and they gave us new ones no problem.
- Swim Up bar /pool was always dirty with sand and murky by early afternoon and crowded with people smoking
- No designated beach smoking area, smokers chain smoking near children, on the beach, and in the Jacuzzi, and in the nightly entertainment theater.
- Elevators were extremely slow and sometimes didn’t stop on the floor you wanted, or would stop on a random floor and go back to the ground floor.
Nice hotel, clean, organized and friendly staff. Food is tasty and they have 4 different restaurant options for dinner - Stakehouse was my favorite! Would definitely recommend and go back. Only issue was guests leaving the towel to hold beach and pool chair for a long time while they were not there (don't know how much the hotel can do about it).
Great service. Clean rooms. Food at the buffet was good. However I did not enjoy the Japanese restaurant for dinner. Didn't taste fresh. Cappuccino were amazing though.
Decent place, not much to do on the resort but there is clubs and stuff close by.
Food is really good, however our rooms were not ready until late (345pm). Other than this it was good though.
What can I say but Wow. The place is amazing, staff are fantistc(a little tip dose go a long way) and the food and drink is just the best. I would highly recommend this to any couple, family or group holiday. Riu Cancun has something for every one.
We visited the property as we stayed at the Riu Palace. It has a modern flashy feel kind of like the Aria and/or Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. We watched a show and danced some. The service is good for the most part and it is a nice property. The beach access has some rocks here and there so you have to watch your step when using the beach.
If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around
Brilliant service from the staff who are always friendly and very willing to help. The food was delicious with a lot of options to choose from. The pool and beach area is beautiful and meets everyone's needs. Also the shows at night were spectacular! One of my best ever holidays.
Excellent hotel they absolutely look after you in this place. The rooms are slightly outdated with paint peeling and some of the switches on the walls hanging off. Also some of the Bedsheets we had, had stains on. There is a good choice of pools one which has a pool bar. The a la carte restaurants are really tasty my favourite being the Kulinarium. You will only get good branded wine if you ask for it. Also a point to note is that there is a special dish in every restaurant that you can have if you ask what it is. This was a very good secret we found.
Lovely place good atmosphere in the evening too.
I do not believe this is a 5-star hotel. The amenities are certainly not nice enough to be considered 5 stars-- granted, the views are beautiful, but everything was constantly dirty, especially the bathrooms. Mold was growing on the walls of our room. The mini bar in the room was pretty disappointing; the water bottles to deal with the heat were the best part honestly. Staff are not very friendly (with some notable and well appreciated exceptions) and they are dishonest as well. We were upsold what was supposed to be a "booze cruise" and ended up being a snorkel/island tour. There are LOTS of children so that was an unpleasant surprise. Finally, depending on which bartender you get, you may end up with mystery bottom-shelf liquor instead of a normal mixed drink. Such a sub-par experience for what was touted as a high-quality resort. I wouldn't return.
This hotel is very nice. It has amazing views and the rooms are nice as well. Each room has alcohol included. There were different restaurants and bars for eating and drinking. Pools outside facing the gulf that made it worth the price of admission. There is a lot going for it and I hope people can come and experience it for themselves.
This hotel is a disgusting dump. The front desk staff are extremely rude in every interaction from check-in, on. My room is falling apart - the shower leaks all over the floor, my tv does not work and I've complained twice about it and still not fixed, the refrigerator makes random loud noises that wake you up so I've had to unplug it, a dispenser fell off the wall just disgusting. My room key card deactivated EVERY day so I have to keep going all the way back down to front desk for new one. There is garbage in the elevators every day. You need to give a towel card to get a beach towel, then you get your card back when you return your towel. If someone takes your towel, you don't get your card back. There are almost no activities for children - 1 in 5 days. The "hot" tub is freezing cold. The food is good.
Great place! Delicious food and a lot of options. No need to book on restaurants. All employees service oriented. Good location with malls very close to the hotel. The beach is not that big, but is beautiful.
The beach and pool were amazing. The food was not great, although the liquor with the all inclusive was nice. I had clothes stolen from my room and when I tried to tell the hotel about the missing things, they were no help. Maids are allowed to take anything without consequences. Make sure to lock your things up. It was a nice trip but next time I go to Cancun I will chose another hotel, I'll never go back to Riu.
This hotel is amazing!! I have been to my fair share of vacation spots around the world but this one makes them all look weak. The staff here are so friendly and helpful. The bar staff remember what you drink and the entertainment staff are super friendly outside of entertainment hours. The rooms are beautiful. My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and we were not displeased. The decor is fresh and clean, the cleanliness of the room was 5*. The location of the hotel is perfect. you wouldn't need a better place. With the beach just a few steps away with its own private beach!!
Normally I would be a little skeptical about food in different countries but here you don't have to worry. They have something for everyone. 4 separate restaurants including a delicious buffet. And then of course the 5 bars!!
Overall this hotel is amazing. I would recommend to everyone looking for a fun filled vacation!!
