Pools are nice and clean , food is good, and the resort puts on some nice shows every night. The only issue I had was with the booking staff, we were overcharged after adding a second room and they weren't willing to help at all. Besides that I had a good time at this resort and enjoyed my stay. I actually stayed at the Barcelo Maya Caribe, which had a very nice and clean beach in front of it.
Great resort. Large buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner, also snack bars near the pool if you don't want to go all the way to the buffet. Multiple bars and stores, you can find everything here. They even have a doctor and a pharmacy. Spa, swimming with dolphins, watersports, romantic dinners, babysitting, nightclub, great entertainment every night. It's expensive, but you will relax and forget about real life for as long as you stay.
The good and the bad:
We had to book our restaurants when we arrived. We had no problem getting good times. But, larger groups had problems. The food and buffets were ok to good. Not outstanding. The one thing that drove me crazy Large chuck of meat presented, but no one slicing the meat! So, I could not have any turkey or ham
Also, Barcelo does not allow food to be taken out from grills/patios etc. So, good and bad? The good is that you dont get paper napkins and food all over the pool deck And it kept the place cleaner.
Alcohol - If you are a premium member the higher end alcohol is definitely not top shelf. No, Belvedere or Grey Goose. Frozen slushi drinks are from a slushie machine. No Ginger Ale.
Shows - Barcelo had theaters that were never hard to find a seat. Shows were good.
Pool - Barcelo had LOTS of pools where you never felt packed or hard to find a place by the pool. The pool staff at Barcelo (aerobics) were professional.
Spa / gym - I used the gym every day! Barcelo was huge, and top notch equipment. And being premium member I got the use of the hydrotherapy spa. OMG is was the BEST. Used that every morning after workout. You will loose track of time
Beach - Barcelo is nicer, less rocky and you can go snorkeling and actually see fish and turtles.
Lovely resort, energetic pool staff, accommodating restaurant staff, and excellent food. Well maintained gardens. Amazing gym for morning workouts. I have returned to this resort, unlike the others I have enjoyed over the past 20 years in the Playa Del Carmen region. Mexico vacations have a sense of hospitality above others generally, but the Barcello is a star in the region. We used their travel associate for our day trip to Coba archilogical site this year and we're very satisfied.
Excellent resort! Very family friendly. Lots of pools and splash pads.
A must go to if you have young children!
Great time at this place! Went with children with minor special needs and they had many wonderful patient staff to make us comfortable. Hernesto y Josue gave me surf lessons at the Surf Ride Park while the little ones wore themselves out on the slides. Great value for a great time!
Marcos helped us when we swam with dolphins and, again, was incredibly patient with timid and cautious children. Didn’t push the little ones but was able to build their confidence with Alex (the one with a tail) and eventually even got them to ride along!
Great resort! Service from everyone was awesome. Really friendly staff and willing to help. The flow rider staff was really good especially Josue Eskamilla. He helped myself and my friends learn to surf the flow rider and we had a great time! Would recommend!
Amazing experience at this resort. Especially the surfrider and friendly staff. Josue & Ernesto are great instructors and rip the wave just as well. Five stars from Canada🙌
We love Barcelo! It's our second time visiting Riviera Maya this year, the complex consists of five resorts so there is always something to do.
We really enjoy the Surf Rider, we go multiple times in the week, the instructors Josue and Ernesto are fantastic! Would highly recommend.
I don't know what to say about this place, we were skeptical before we coming to this place. Everything change when we land and we checked in. This place is absolutely great, from food and drink, Beach and pool, all the way to the stuff and everything what you get from the resort. After five times in Mexico this is definitely the best place we been so far!!!
Would recommend this place for the families with the kids or without it!!!!!
Great 5 day get away! Good food at buffets and formal dinners. Swim up suite was awesome to be able to get into the water whenever you wanted. Would highly recommend to others.
We stayed at the Barcelo Palace but ventured over to the Maya mall where we heard there were some activities happening. We had so much fun participating in activities with FRANCISCO :) He made our trip even better than it already was! We participated in the Cocktail Lessons and he made it interesting, fun, and educational! Not to mention the awesome magician who came by and did tricks for us. Amazing stay with amazing staff- thank you :)
Amazing hotel - had the best food everyday, clear blue beach, and very spacious rooms with convenient locations. The staff was absolutely incredible. From waiters in the restaurant buffet to the entertainment staff at the pool, they made mine and my sisters vacation a one to remember. Sergio and Francesco played the best tracks and were always dancing their zumba routines with a never ending energy. Will come back again!
This resort is amazing the staff are so friendly and the activities are great! Beach Volleyball is a blast and the staff took good care of me after I had too much fun at the club one night! Staff member Jonathan personally greeted me and talked to me throughout my stay and always helped me find things to do. Would definitely come back!
Has the jacuzzi tub on all the ocean front premium suits patios, cut the Maya Beach is better because it is closed to more of the other amenities on the property.
There not many guests so it felt kinda barren, despite the fact that all the facilities were very nice.
This a great resort with awesome facilities
Upon arriving at this resort we first experienced an hour and a half wait to be checked into the resort. The waiting area/lobby is not air conditioned so the wait was lengthy and extremely hot. The front desk is severely understaffed. After arriving in our room, booked for four, two adults and two teenagers, we discovered a very small room with two double-beds and a futon type couch. The room had an odor (not the normal odor of humidity and mold), it was something else. The beds were hard as a rock and the sheets were damp and seemed to be made out of an odd material. They felt wet. The room had black mold growing in the corners, the mosquitos were numerous. The room was not cold even with the AC on full time. We took a quick walk past the buffet which was messy and dirty. Now let's talk about the pool! Their was vomit in one section of the pool, perhaps the staff was not yet aware. When walking past the children's area the most shallow part had an accumulation of some kind of yellow foam, which was completely nasty. The beach was overcrowded. There was no shade on the beach as there are only palm trees but they are not low enough to provide any shade at all. That night, after a family discussion, we decided to leave the resort entirely. We spent $150 on a cab ride up into Cancun to another resort which was the same price, yet %1000 percent better, and more of the service and cleanliness you expect for the money. The Barcelo is dated, the staff need more help, the checkin process is painful at best. After a long flight or two, and a very long ride from the airport, the last thing people want is to sit in a hot lobby for an hour and a half. Upon checking out the person did say the manager would be up to talk to us in about ten minutes. However, that ten minutes could have been another hour in the hot lobby and we already had a cab waiting. We lost an entire vacation day and money but leaving was worth the extra expense. Never going back. The Excellence Finest resort in Playa Mujeres is where we moved to and it was outstanding. Night and Day in comparison.
Don't stay here unless you like noise all hours of the night. There is no insulation in walls or ceilings, you hear everything. Rooms were clean, service great. No WiFi unless you pay for it, not free. Food was bland, could not take it towards the end of our stay. Girls at the guest services were not very helpful, don't even bother going in for help. Pools nice and bar tenders great.
